Former Muslims Speaking Out
The following is from Former Muslim and Apostate, Nonie Darwish:

If anyone wants to know the interpretation of the word ‘jihad’ in Islam, just open the index in Sharia books and look it up. According to Shafi’I law jihad means “to war with non-Muslims to establish the religion”; nothing vague or ambiguous there. To understand what is the punishment for apostasy, it is also very simple, Sharia books are all unanimous and without exception, state that an apostate must be given 3 days to repent and if s/he does not, then s/he must be killed immediately. Apostasy law is at the heart of Islam, the only religion on earth that kill those who leave it. That is why to make sure it will be carried out regardless of government compliance, Muslim law entrusted its enforcement to the public. Thus Sharia states that a Muslim who kills an apostate will not be punished. No ifs ands or buts. Vigilante street violence against apostates is thereby allowed even encouraged, under Muslim law.

ADDITIONAL: Republican Anti-Abortion Provision Defeated

I have to admit that I went through a period of trying to rationalize something like the following quote.

...sanctity of human life is “best upheld” when it is made carefully, not when women are “coerced to carry a pregnancy to term.”

That quote is from an open letter to U.S. Senators and guess who the letter is from? Clerics! Over 1000 of them! And denominations such as the American Baptist, Church of the Brethren, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), United Church of Christ, and The United Methodist Church among others endorse this open letter! William Kamkwamba
I did a post on William Kamkwamba last year. The link to the post is available in the lower end of my sidebar under "Did You Read This One." Mr. Kamkwamba (a Facebook friend) wrote The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope about his experiences. It is still amazing to me what he was able to accomplish with a few library books providing the instruction. He co-wrote an enviromental piece about Malawi over at the Huffington Post. While reading it, count your blessings.
