Elitists, Northeast Conservatives, Culture, American Conservatives
...
With all the excitement about Republican VP candidate, Gov. Sarah Palin, there is a corner of conservatives that do not like her. Now of course there is a contingent from the traditional values crowd that feels Gov. Palin’s children should be her top priority over being the country’s vice president. But the other type of conservatives who are still down on her candidacy despite what it has done for the chances of a McCain presidency are a Northeast elitist group of influential conservatives from New York to Washington D. C.. Their perplexity on Gov Palin is equal to the liberal left.
These Northeast conservatives view Gov Palin almost like they viewed Dan Quayle. To them, she is a hick with a rough uneducated husband and a cargo of children. This type of conservative still holds dear a conservatism that is European and 19th century based; in other words a snooty conservatism.
These Northeast conservatives are totally out of sync with the rest of the American conservative body. They went totally unaware as American conservatism changed. It is as if the Northeast conservative still views the U. S. as a cultural wasteland full of semi-intelligent people who live by their sweat and manual labor and are in need of the intellectual leadership of the detached conservative elite. Northeast conservatives fit the old stereotype of the country club Republican. Read more about the conservative elite here and do not pass up the commenter section to see a few others named as possible conservative elitists.

Relatives, History, Family, Culture
...
Today was very personal for me. I spent it with family and relatives. The last time I saw some of my first cousins was back in the 70s. Some live in Philly and parts of Southern New Jersey. Others have left Philly and live in different parts of the country and in Europe. I was meeting their children and grandchildren for the first time. One cousin moved his business to England a few decades ago. It was interesting to listen to the sound of the voices of his 3 children. I am looking at young faces with strong family resemblances speaking with British accents.
The familiar cliché question was being bandied about, ‘Why does it take something like this to get us all together?’ You see this was the homegoing celebration of my 91 years old aunt. She was my father's older sister. The last time I saw her was at the homegoing of my father at this time last year, which also makes this day very emotional. My father left us a year ago today.
It was something seeing her daughter and 5 sons together for the first time after so many years. It bought back memories of being at my grandparents’ home when they would visit. One by one, this long line of boys and one girl would come through the door and enter into the living room. Growing up, the 3 youngest brothers were around my age and we would have a good time at family get-togethers.
Oh, the memories that flooded my mind about this side of the family. At the repast, my cousins and I talked about the history of our families and grandparents. My female cousins talked about when they were young how they loved and had a crush on their handsome uncle – my father. My male cousins talked about how they loved hanging out with my father when they were kids. It was then that I thought it was really good that my aunt’s homegoing was on the one year anniversary of my father’s death.
Just about all of my aunts and uncles are gone. I have one aunt left on that side of the family and she is strongly behind us getting together more. Due to bad blood between relatives, I know some people feel seeing relatives at these kinds of occasions is more than enough. Fortunately, none of my relatives hold on to resentments and old grudges, because many of them have come to the Lord which changes one’s entire outlook on life. But we should get past the cliché at least for those in the Philly/Southern New Jersey area and see more of each other.

Saudi Women, Muslim, Saudi Arabia, Human Rights
...
Never Mind the 21st century, when will Muslim populated Saudi Arabia come into the 20th century in respect to talented athletic Saudi women competing in the Olympics? Nations of primarily Muslims such as Afghanistan and Iraq have come into century advancement by allowing women to compete in Olympic competition. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice spoke out on their Olympic absence.
If female competition was allowed within this year, it would be at least a decade before they could even attempt the Olympics. After all, the women would have to get past the laws that have them encumbered in that heavy clothing and the banning of sports for females in public schools.
The truth is that Saudi Arabia needs to abolish their archaic system (the link has a disturbing stoning photo) that disallows grown women to do anything without the consent of a male guardian as urged by the Human Rights Watch. They are treated like adult minors. Women in that country are not allowed to drive. Imagine not being able to gain employment, travel, marry or access healthcare without the consent of a male guardian. When there is no older male relative nearby, a woman with a son as young as the early 20s would have to get his permission to travel. He can be his mother’s legal guardian for everything.
The lifestyle of Saudi women is unfathomable. The Saudi women Olympic competition in the scheme of things is of small importance in the hierarchy of obtaining basic rights such as women getting treatment for a health problem with out the consent of a male guardian. But if Saudi Arabia can come out of the dark ages and allow women to have full autonomy, Saudi female Olympic competition will be a given.
Note: The women in the photo are Saudi journalists. Remember they had to get permissian from their male guardian for their journalistic education and to be employed.

TV Special, Left, Black in America, Family
...
Did you view any of the Black in America series on CNN? I found much of it to be embarrassing. They continued to make racism the culprit for the ills in Black America when it is not choosing to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Black men are in high incarceration numbers due to committing crimes of robbery, drugs and murder. Hey, don’t do the crime and you will not have to do the time.
I was screaming at the TV set with the segments dealing with single motherhood, boyfriends and families. I could not believe people on the discussion panels making light of sex out of marriage. It was downplayed and accepted as an inconsequential every day aspect of life, when it is the major problem. They were more concerned with coming up with solutions to deal with being single while continuing to have children.
Now I did not have too much of a problem with the segment pushing the importance of getting an education, but I do not agree with the practice of paying children to learn. This CNN special was no prize. This was all about the liberal left outlook and approach to life’s problems for blacks. I am not the only person who was upset with this program. Go here to read an excellent critical account of the CNN special by blog friend Carlotta.
Addendum - Thursday, July 31, 2008:
I read Larry Elder today at Townhall.com. I have been a little critical of black conservatives declining to be a part of the type of discussion panels that were on CNN's Black in America series. But if the panel discussion is not broadcast live and they edit conservative responses as CNN did, then they should not go on those panels. Please except my apology for my misinformed judgment.

Muslim, Honor Killings, News, Culture
...
There is a dirty U. S. secret that is coming to light and that is Muslim Domestic violence that results in death known as honor killing. Honor killing of mostly females by their fathers, brothers or other male relatives in authority is culturally accepted in Middle East countries. In the cultural mindset, the female is deserving of killing, because she has shamed the family name in some way such as not keeping her head covered, filing for divorce, taking on an American life style or whatever the male family member deems shameful.
I watched a Fox News special on suspected U. S. honor killings. It was broadcasted 5 times this past weekend. One Egyptian Muslim born father allegedly killed his 2 teenage daughters who were U. S. citizens with an American mother down in Texas for taking on too much of the American life style. U. S. authorities have yet to capture him. It is feared that he may no longer even be in the country. No way can the U. S. accept honor killing as a personal cultural practice. Go here to read more and there is also a link to a video of a Saudi cleric giving instruction on proper wife beating. If you see nothing wrong with that instruction, then you should not mind doing prison time for assault.
There is no justification. Honor killing is murder. Those committing this horrible indefensible act and those assisting who fall in the category of accessory before or after the fact must be convicted and thrown under the prison. They should really never see the light of day again.

Music, Friday, Culture, Smooth Jazz
...

It is obvious that my age dates me in music tastes. After visiting many blogs with embedded playlists, I see that I am not too current in my music preferences. Last week I was ecstatic, when I found a downloadable 1967 Smokey Robinson and the Miracles album. Of course I have exceptions such as smooth jazz, but other than Christian and classical music, I mostly prefer the secular music of my teen and young adult life. I now find myself knowing only a few of the performers and music on the music awards shows such as the Grammys.
In the Philadelphia area, smooth jazz is very popular. Smooth jazz disappeared for a while when its radio station was sold to a new owner and the music format was changed. There was a strong organized protest. Many who see themselves as having mature music preferences, considers it an oasis among today’s rock and pop music radio stations. I know we missed it in my household. Well the good news is that a few months later, someone bought another radio station and gave Philly back its smooth jazz.
And now, for all of you who work a traditional 9 to 5 job, that favorite day is here. When the work day is over, go home and relax to the following selections that are popular on the Philly smooth jazz station.

Left, Pat Boone, Hollywood, John McCain
...
It is a constant that Hollywood is strongly liberal leftist where politics are concerned. This is evident in the products of Hollywood television and movie entertainment. It has been reported that staying employed becomes very difficult for people in front of or behind the camera once it is known that they are conservative. Therefore, political silence has been the norm for most conservatives in the Hollywood. But that is changing.
Actor, Gary Sinise has organized a conservative underground among those working in the Hollywood entertainment industry known as the Friends of Abe. It is still underground in nature because the fear of retaliation from liberal leftist industry leaders. They stand for such things as traditional American values and supporting the troops. Their presidential support goes to Sen. John McCain. There will be some going public from this group to campaign for him. They want to see projects that portray America in a positive light.
Some conservatives such as David Horowitz have some skepticism about this group and see it as a non aggressive band-aid. As far as I am concern, it is a start in the challenge against liberal leftist dictatorship in Hollywood. Go here to read more and view a video by forever up front conservative, Pat Boone.
