Barred From Entry

It has already started in a school in Philly, thus it may end up happening to schools everywhere. It is very reasonable to expect prospective employees, who are working in schools, childcare centers, social services, or any situation where minors are involved to undergo criminal and child abuse clearances. Public school (I think also private and parochial) employees now also have to undergo FBI fingerprinting. Now the criminal and the child abuse check cost $10.00 a piece. The new FBI fingerprinting cost 45.00; therefore, a prospective employee must pay $65.00 to be cleared to work with in schools. My center is trying to find out if the fingerprinting extends to child care. Our state inspector is clueless at this point.
Well it appears that another group besides prospective employees needs a FBI fingerprint check, and it is needed in order for anyone from this group to enter a school building – at least in a South Philadelphia school. Those in this group should be prepared to pay the $45.00. Who is this group? Parents! A mother in South Philly went to the Meredith Elementary school to check on her first grader and was barred from entering, because they did not have her FBI fingerprint check on file in the school.
