Christmas Eve Music

, , , ...

It is Christmas Eve and I know many families are running around doing last minute shopping, house chores and food prep for tomorrow. Here are some nice Christmas music videos. The songs are sung in the traditional, contemporary jazz and country/gospel.

Health Care and Congress
Democrats/Liberals are lauding the health care bill. I have gotten into it with a few in the local urban radio station chatroom several months back about the negatives of the proposed bill. One got so upset with me about my remarks to the comment, "We're going to get socialized medicine." These people thought Pres. Obama's health care overhaul will fix everything. It has recently been reported that the Senate version of the bill will maintain cuts to medicare. How is that for a part of the health care fix?

Now Think about this! If the health care bill becoming law is such a wonderful thing, how come Congress is exempted from the health care particulars that the rest of us will be under?

Saying No to Objecting Parents
For all the parents who have children in public schools, how do you deal with thematic learning units that you find objectionable? How does your school district deal with parental objections. The homeschooling movement is growing due to folks not having private school as an option. They do not like what and how certain subjects/topics are being taught to their children. They do not like how their school districts ignore their objections. Homeschooling use to be primarily the domain of Christian parents; but these days, parents from all belief systems and walks of life are getting into homeschooling.

How would you feel as a parent about your children being taught from a pro gay curriculum. Think about homework and project assignments on a pro gay theme! This is happening in Alemeda County in California. Some parents have made their objections known and have requested an opt-out lesson plan for their children. Judge Frank Roesch as ruled against the protesting parents. Read more here. I wonder if the curriculum will include reading recommended books by Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings that promote 'sex acts between preschoolers!'

In Addition...
I blogged earlier this week on conservative talk radio. I named a few of the talkers I currently listen to. I forgot to mention that I also listen on Saturday nights at 9:00 p.m. eastern to Kevin McCullough and Stephen Baldwin Xtreme Radio/TV. I listen to (and view them) on the computer, because none of the radio stations that they are on in southeastern PA come in clear enough for listening. They both know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and deal with the issues of the day from their Christian perspective.

Wishing You a God Blessed Thanksgiving

PSALM 100

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness:
come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

1 CHRONICLES 29:11

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty;
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom, O LORD,
And You are exalted as head over all.

Starting the Holiday Celebration Off with Ray Charles

, , , ...

There are a lot of family and neighborhood barbecues going on today, because many of you have today off from work as a part of the lengthened July 4th holiday weekend in the celebration of the birth of this country. Some of you are going away to places that include a boardwalk and beach. Guess what? I am headed later today to a holiday weekend church family retreat.

The first time I heard Ray Charles sing America the Beautiful was at the end of the 1984 Republican Convention. I was part of the loyal Democratic opposition back then and even wondered why Ray Charles was singing at this Republican Reagan convention. But I loved the way he sang this song.

America the Beautiful is a most fitting song to start off this Independence Day weekend with family and friends while remembering the birth of this great country.

Note: Thanks to the advance Opera blog posting feature, there will be weekend posts to this blog.

King Holiday: The Obama Inaugural Eve

, , , ...

There were many service pojects in honor of Martin Luther King in action today in the Philly area such as the beginning construction of playground items which was carried out in a gymn (due to weather) and a card writing campaign to people in our armed forces. There is still a vocal contingent in Philly that refuses to take part in any kind of day of service, because they view the volunteerism as a day to get free labor out of black people. Yes, I know, that is utterly ridiculous.

It is a big deal in my little part of the world that the Martin Luther King holiday is on the eve of the inauguration of the first U. S. black president, Barack Obama. Go here to view a 1964 BBC interview of the late Dr. Martin Luther on the possibility of a black president and then go here to hear what Dr. King's sister, Christine King Farris thought about the possibility of a black president in her life time. My mother who is of the same generation as Mrs. Farris and Dr. King felt the same way as Mrs. Farris. She would not have agreed with Dr. King with what he said in the BBC interview.

GESU BAMBINO/O HOLY NIGHT Introduced by Billy Graham and Sung by Sandi Patty

Ah, Christmas Eve!
I know you are working and/or out and about seeing to those last minute preparations for tomorrow. I hope to make it to the Christmas Eve prayer service at my church. If you have time, read some holiday ponderings, and holiday reminiscing - remember when there were only fat Christmas lights? Sandi Patti is a personal favorite, but I will leave you with another choice and that is the Pavarotti english version. Have a blessed one.

Prophetic and Contemporary

, , , ...

Note that the prophetic Old Testament scripture from last week's Sunday post, was fulfilled. The New Testament gospel book of Matthew is were the fulfillment of this prophecy is found.

Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord Himself will
give you a sign: Behold, the
virgin shall conceive and bear
a Son, and shall call His
name Immanuel

Matthew 1:22-23
So all this was done that it might
be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord
through the prophet, saying: “Behold,
the virgin shall be with child, and bear a
Son, and they shall call His name
Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

MARY DID YOU KNOW Performed by The song's lyricist, Mark Lowry and music composer, Buddy Greene

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
