Two From the Conservative Side

, , , ...

My reading list just grows and grows. I have hardly bought any books in a while; instead, I choose to be a steady visitor to my local library. But now I have to get a copy of blogger of the Black Sphere, Kevin Jackson's new book, The Big Black Lie: How I Learned the Truth About the Democrat Party. I listen to Kevin most Thursday evenings on his BlackSphere program on blog talk radio. I have also posted his Racist Democrat History youtube videos a few times. Check out his blog here and a piece he wrote at American Thinker.

In light of the Supreme Court Justice nominee, Sonia Sotomayor and all the attention to her background with emphasis on how she grew up, Lloyd Marcus, the writer of the American Tea Party Anthem who can relate to a simular environment growing up, tells of his experiences in his blog. Judge Sotomayor is a liberal way down the left road. Lloyd Marcus is a conservative way down the right road. Read more about Mr. Marcus here.

Chris Gardner on Dealing with the Times

, , , ...

Chris Gardner, the man Will Smith portrayed in the movie, "Pursuit of Happyness" talks upbeat about what to pursue when you fine yourself being in that unenviable position that many of us have experienced and will be experiencing. He also has a new book, Start Where You Are, which came out this past Tuesday.

Saturday: Reminders, Readings and a Word

Red Envelope Day Reminder

First off I must remind you that Tuesday, March 31st is Red Envelope Day. Let's flood Pres. Barack Obama with our opposition to abortion/infanticide. It is not too late to get red envelopes/post cards from stationary stores, your local Kinkos copy center or send them online through the website. You can also go here for added assistance and more ideas, which was provided by a commenter. Listen to the music in the video that is in support of Red Envelope Day.

From the Library

I took out Mike Huckabee's Do the Right Thing, but have detoured to another book. I will read his book after I finish an old Ann Coulter book. When I read Ann Coulter's Guilty, her pages on Hillary and Bill Clinton made me want to read her first book High Crimes and Misdemeanors.

I have read all her books but that one. When the Clinton impeachment thing was going on, I stood firm on the fact that Bill Clinton perjured himself against family and co-workers trying to excuse it, but I did not want to see him removed as president. I also did not like Ann Coulter back then. I took the book out of library and it is rocking my mind.

Recommended Readings Update

I have added Do the Right Thing by Mike Huckabee and If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg. I am just starting the Huckabee book and the Ortberg book is for Wednesday night bible study. The title is derived from the biblical passage Matthew 14:22-33 of Peter’s experience of walking on water. The book is about (from a Christian book site) leaving your comfort zone of causal Christianity to faithfully follow the Lord who is calling us out onto the risky, exciting waters of the high seas.

I continue to keep Winning is Everything in the Recommended Readings, because it is written by my pastor, Tony Hart. This is a great book on dealing with life’s ups and downs from a Christian bible based perspective.

This Author Got It Wrong

, , , ...

Of course there is a lot of gloating going on from those who supported Barack Obama for president. One man who is on the receiving end of a particular never ending gloat fest (as I am experiencing a little) is author Shelby Steele. He is also a senior fellow at the conservative think tank, Hoover Institute. Like Pres-elect Obama, Mr. Steele comes from a marriage of a black man and a white woman. But that is where it ends. Mr. Steele grew up in segregated Alabama. His mother was treated like a black woman after her marriage. For example, she gave birth to her children in the segregated black maternity ward of an Alabama hospital.

Shelby Steele wrote a book that I bought and read called A Bound Man: Why We Are Excited About Obama and Why He Can’t Win. I remember when my mother saw the book lying on a table sometime after the Obama win in the Iowa Caucuses, she blurted out, “Why can’t Obama win?” She really got ruffled by the title. Mr. Steele in the book talks about blacks as bargainers and challengers. We know about the challengers such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who strongly demand black friendly policies to counter historically condoned racist practices.

Mr. Steele says that Barack Obama is a bargainer who will never rub the shameful history of America’s racism in white people’s faces, if they will not hold his race against him. He uses race as a manipulative tool to make whites feel redemption so that they can vote for him. He must balance how authentically "Black" he presents himself e.g. not too black to be threatening to whites, but at the same time not too white to turn off black voters. But this is not the real Barack Obama. Who is he out of the balance?

Mr. Steele does not view Barack Obama as a conviction politician. He views him as a 'to be something' in opposition to 'doing something.' He is a bound man, because he tries to balance being a non-threat and an accommodator to whites and at the same time appeal and relate to the lives of blacks. He cannot successfully carry out this balance. That is essentially why Barack Obama could not be president.

Mr. Steele who backed Sen. McCain feels Pres-elect Obama is all image and no substance. Well I sort of agree with that, but then he has some substance which is very liberal and socialistic and that is not for me. Mr. Steele vigorously defends the analysis in his book. You can read his after the election defense and the reason for the book title here. See him discussing his book here. And read his initial reaction to the Obama win here.

Civil Rights: Is It Opportunity or Results?

, , , ...

Dr. Thomas Sowell’s Civil Rights: Rhetoric or Reality which is above in the Recommended Reading sticky post was published back in 1984. Dr. Sowell examines the civil rights movement and concludes that it has gone from a platform of equality of opportunity to equality of results. Basically it is not so much a lack of civil rights as it is the lack of education, choice of professional field and work experience.

Dr. Sowell pointed out in the case of women, a major result to lower income levels is the dropping out of the workforce to get married, having children and opting to work part-time. Of course today, more wives and mothers are working full time. So then it becomes a job choice based on educational background and experience.

Working in a medical, scientific, computer science, and engineering field is going to render better financial benefits than let’s say early childhood or some of the social science fields. Minorities not present in the upper echelons of corporations are due to lack of qualifications more so than discrimination.

Some years ago, I worked under an early childhood administrator (white) who raised the qualifications to be a group supervisor. The state's basic qualification was a 2 year college degree in early childhood or a related field and 2 years working experience for a group supervisor in a childcare center. Other than the Bachelors in early childhood, the state also allowed for various Bachelor degree options. The administrator's new qualification was a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education only. This resulted in racist accusations, as all the group supervisors where white.

Blacks and whites with 2 year AA early childhood degrees, 4 year Bachelor degrees in a related field or a Bachelor's degree with 60 credits in a related fieled and years of experience (me) were being passed over. People were hired for the classroom leadership position fresh out of college graduation. Black parents in this mostly black child populated childcare center questioned why there were not any black supervising teachers in the classrooms. Most did not except the adminstrator's high qualifications reason.

The administrator never budged in her qualification stand, but due to parental pressure, did make an effort to hire a minority group supervisor with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood. It was hard, because those who favorably interviewed, declined the offer and went on to be kindergarten teachers or worked in the higher paying with better benefits government childcare - Head Start.

This book delves into all kinds of historic variables and how the (needed) civil rights and government regulations have gone on to have unintended hurtful consequences for minorities.

Getting a glimpse at a Candidate's Character

, , , ...

Hat tip – Ed Morrisey at Hot air
This has to be one Republican senate seat that is totally safe. I love Republican Senator, Norm Coleman's attack add centering on his Democratic challenger, Al Franken's do as I say but not as I do behavior. It gives you a glimpse into Mr. Franken's character. I am quite sure we all feel that character is very important in electing any candidate. You can read more about Al Franken's hipocrisy and other profiles in liberal hypocrisy in this book:

Trust me; this book is a great eye opener especially for liberal progressive thinking people.
