#!

I've been getting bored of having standard old Ubuntu on my home computers; there was issues - networking between my desktop machine and netbook wasn't working as it should, both of which were running Ubuntu - and I fancied a change.
Earlier today, whilst in work, I took a look through Wikipedia's comparison List of Linux Distributions and came across #! (known as crunchbang). I'd never heard of it before, but instantly liked the name, logo, branding and the screenshots enticed me further. The fact that it's quite a lightweight operating system, based on Ubuntu, meant that I was clearly going to spend my friday night installing this on my Dell Inspiron Mini 9 laptop / netbook. It didn't take long to install and set-up.
There are versions of the operating system available for the ASUS EEE PC and also for 64-bit machines; but I've got the standard full installation on my Dell - and it's running well. I'm impressed so far and love the user interface (or the lack of user interface; it's all so simple).
You can download the operating system, a LiveCD (try the OS on a CD before you install!) and find out more on the #! Crunchbang Linux website.

Soooo, quite by accident I discovered Linux Mint last week, and it is without a doubt my favorite Linux distro to date. As I said, I usually hate Gnome, but this customization is freakin' sweet. It's based on Intrepid, so pretty decent.
(It's badass mostly because I understand how to do stuff. I'm not a Linux n00b, but I'm no expert, either.)

BAMAToNE - Ah! You're one of them! One of those KDE sorts! Heh. I've never been a KDE fan; my ex was well into KDE over Gnome - but I don't like it - I've always thought of it as a good looking environment for people who don't know what looks good. No offense intended, btw.
Chas4 - It's been running fairly smoothly so far, I haven't had any problems with it. Mind, I don't intend to do anything strenuous on it - this is a netbook I'm running, afterall.
