Book Club

, , ,

I am really bad at reading books - this is a fact. I've always told people that the problem is that I start to read a book and then hit a period of time, maybe a few days or a week, where I don't have time to read. After that period of time, I'll return to the book to have forgotten what has happened thus far. This is just one reason, there's probably many more.

I guess it just highlights that I've got a short attention span, or that I get bored quite easily. Either way, this isn't to say that I don't enjoy reading books. When I actually get to the end of a book, I've found that reading is as enjoyable as any other form of entertainment and have often found myself lost in the story (where the term 'often' is flippantly used).

It's been a while since I read anything, so tonight I picked up my unread copy of 'The Vesuvius Club' and aim to give it a shot. I've also signed up (finally! years after first seeing the site) to Shefari.

I face the same problem with reading 'cos I only have time to read when I'm off.
Another major hurdle being I get lost in the maze of character names. Homer: Doh!

Love reading but as with you, not much time for it. My kids read and read! Currently reading a novel called "The Reapers Rainbow" - about bio terrorism and how could the health system cope with a virus spreading out of control. Great facts and scenarios in it!

Hey selurus and Greeneast - thanks for stopping by and leaving comments!

Character names, if I'm into the book, aren't really a problem for me. But, as I share the same issue as Greeneast (ie, not much time to read), forgetting everything altogether is a problem. P:

I too am reading the Reapers Rainbow, I have found I don't want to put it down so I am looking forward to my holiday when I can finish reading it without interuption

It's a fascinating read but I'm not getting through it very fast. I know the gentleman who wrote it and to me it's almost like reading a conversation I've had with him on several occasions. Technical, thought provoking and fascinating. What we thought we knew - we didn't!
