day 100. expressionsss

This is excellent. Victoria has reach 100 days of her 365 and this is her celebratory photo. You can super-size it.

I have to admit to telling her she'd only last a month. She has proved me wrong by hitting 100 days (or even by hitting 31 days), and I hope she continues to prove me wrong and reach the end of this 365 self portraiture.

365 Update

, ,

Just a quick post to let you all know that I'm keeping up with my 365 photo album. I've uploaded a few more since your last visit; I've only got today's to add... which, as it happens, I'm going to take in a short while.

Tees, Trees, Threes, Sixes and Fives

Well, I just spent the last hour or more going through all my photos and sorting out stuff for Project 365. I kinda let it slip a bit, and also needed to add a whole more photos. It's done now though. I can guarentee I won't make 365 photos throughout the project because I've already missed out on two (or is it three?) days.

Maybe I should just go on and on until I do actually get to 365 photos instead of one every day of the year. That would at least give me some breathing space for days I forget (because I am a forgetful person).

So, elsewhere I got some cool post today; it included a t-shirt from one of my favourite bands in the world; Encyclopedia. It's a white t-shirt which reads 'Encyclope' and has a picture of a Deer. Haha, it's so funny - do you get it?

I took my Nintendo DS into work today and played Animal Crossing: Wild World at lunch with Mark Dormand. He let me steal some fruit from his town, like Apples, Pears and Cocounts - and I also filled his Able Sisters store with some groovy t-shirt designs that I created.

Also, for anyone that lives in or near to Manchester; the Christmas lights and decorations are already up. This is the brand new Christmas Tree in Albert Square. For those that don't know or live in Manchester; for the past 5 years or more we've had a fake tree. It was like a big cone with lights pinned to it.

This year it seems we're reverting back to a real tree and covering it with lights and surrounding it with some crazy angel lights. It's a shame though that they have got quite a dodgey tree. Granted; it doesn't look too bad at night, but that's because its dark. I seen the tree this morning and it looked rubbish; you could see straight through one side to the other. Bah (humbug?).

Still, I can't wait for the Christmas Markets. I sooo badly want to take Vikki there; and we can stand outside, in the blistering cold, warming our hands on the Gluhwein we're drinking and munching cinnamon biscuits. Just like every christmas period.

Finally, keep checking out Gamestyle for videogame stuff. Subscribe to our news feed and review feed.

Thank you.

Upgrades, Updates and Uptonogood.

At some point during the day, the forum will be unavailable as ill be moving it to our new shiny web server.

Sugar, We're Going Down... - Gamestyle Forums

It seems like everyone's moving to new servers at the minute... Gamestyle, Opera Community... and yes. That covers it. That is everyone.

So, this morning has been spent doing various server tasks. I think I've broken the email system at Gamestyle - so it best be that people don't email me on that address for the next hour or two whilst I sort it out.

Elsewhere in the world (though there is little world outside of Gamestyle for me at the minute), there's been a few more updates in the world of Matthew.

Number 1

I bought a Nintendo Wi-Fi dongle. I had a wi-fi router type thing in my house that I acquired some time ago. However, it was broke and a pain in the arse to get working. I only used the thing for Nintendo Wi-Fi - everything else in the house runs off cables.

So, I wanted to play Animal Crossing. I needed more fruit, and stuff - and I wanted to visit someone's town. This prompted me to go out and buy a Nintendo Wi-Fi dongle. Its nice. it was a pain in the arse to set up; install, break it, uninstall, uninstall something else, turn off firewalls, restart computer, reinstall, set up firewalls to allow this thing to go through, restart computer... argh!

But now its set up. I did want to play Animal Crossing, but realised I dont know anyone else with Animal Crossing. I headed across to the Nintendo group at Opera Community and added my details to the Friend Code Exchange - so if anyone wants to hook up - give me a shout.

I got back in Opera IRC where shoust was. So we had a quick game on Mario Kart instead. I won.

Number 2

I have switched back to Flock. Sorry Opera. I love Opera, but sometimes I get bored of not being able to use cool things like the StumbleUpon toolbar, or have Alexa track what I'm visiting, or be able to use the Yahoo! Toolbar (because I use a lot of Yahoo! services).

I am however still using Opera for my IRC and email. So all is not lost.

Number 3

I have work again. From tomorrow (!) I'm going to be back at With HQ doing some freelance work. They have me down for 5 days. That money has been used to pay for Gamestyle's new hosting. Hurrah! Haha.

And I'm quite bored of writing this post now...

I'll update my blog again soon. I've got a whole host of project 365 photos to upload and also, there's some stuff that I'll have to blog about in future. I'll let you know how work went, this saturday its my nephew's christening, hopefully Amanda will come to Manchester this weekend, and on sunday (if I've got my dates correct), I want to have a bonfire in my back garden. Wicked.

I'm sorry for the lack of updates; but I've been busy here and there. Despite what my mother might think (who actually reads my blog), one can be busy working on stuff whilst sat in their room all day.

Goodbye!

Project 365

, , , ...

So, Ramunas passed on this idea to me. It's quite simple. What you do is take a photo every single day for the next 365 days (that's a whole year!). You then upload it to the web.

I'm going to give it a shot (no pun intended); I always have a camera on me - be it my polaroid, my D70 or even my cameraphone. I'll be collecting the results in this album. You can get automatic updates with the photocast RSS feed.

WHY DO IT?

Imagine being able to look back at any day of your year and recall what you did, who you met, what you learned… (Often we find it hard to remember what we did just yesterday or even last night, let alone a whole year ago!)

Your year-long photo album will be an amazing way to document your travels and accomplishments, your haircuts and relationships. Time moves surprisingly fast.

Taking a photo a day will make you a better photographer. Using your camera every day will help you learn its limits. You will get better at composing your shots, you’ll start to care about lighting, and you’ll become more creative with your photography when you’re forced to come up with something new every single day.

HOW TO DO IT

Bring Your Camera Everywhere
Yes, everywhere. Get in the habit. Grocery stores, restaurants, parties, work, and school. Going to the cinema? Snap a pic of the flick with your phone! There are photo-ops everywhere. If you have one of those tiny tiny cameras, you have no excuse not to have it in your pocket all the time. And if you don’t? Camera phones are a great substitute.

Make Posting Easy
Making posting photos fast and easy means you’re much more likely to do it. Personally, I recommend you grab yourself an album at Opera Community (that's this website). You can even enable MMS posting by ticking a box when you start your album. If you do that, you get an email address which you can save in your mobile phone. When you take your photo, you can send it straight from your mobile to that address as a picture message. Cool, eh?

Vary Your Themes
Try to capture the day’s events in a single photo. Perform photographic experiments. Take a photo of someone new you meet, something you ate for the first time, or something you just learned how to do. Take a photo of something that made you smile. Don't think that you have to take just one photo each day - you could take 20 and pick the best one. And don’t forget to take a photo of yourself at least once a month so you can remember how you’ve changed, too.

Tell a Story
Use your blog entry, or your photo description, to explain what’s going on in each day’s photograph. How good did that dinner taste? What made you want to take a photo of that stranger? It’ll help you remember down the road, and it gives friends following along a better appreciation of why you took the photo you did. You don’t need to write a lot, just enough to add some color.

Don’t Stop, No Matter What
This is perhaps the most important tip of all. You will get tired of taking a photo every single day. Some days, you will consider giving up. Don’t. The end result is worth the effort. Remind yourself why you wanted to do it in first place.

There will be times you’ll think there’s nothing interesting left to take a photo of, and times you’ll think you didn’t do anything exciting enough to take a photo of. There’s always a great photo to be made.

Get out of the house and take a walk. Or stay inside and look around. Take a photo of something important to you. Take a photo of the inside of your house so you can see how your taste has changed over the years. Take a photo of anything, just don’t stop.

It helps if you’ve told your friends about the project and asked them to follow along. Their encouragement will keep you going!

Post often
Ideally, post every day or two. Sometimes you won't manage to - but make sure you keep your photos to upload at the end of the week. You'll regret it if you miss a day out.
