I decided to bring photos back to my blog. As always, CSS styles are incomplete. Deal.

I'm Committed.

, , , ...

I've made my choice. I thought long and hard, did a little research and have gone and bought the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player. No BluRay in my household; HD-DVD ftw!

Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player and Children of Men

So, tomorrow I'll be looking forward to receiving this, Express Delivery, accompanied by Children Of Men - all because I was in the mood for spending some money. It was either that, or a Nikon SB-800 Speedlight (which no doubt I'll end up buying when I get paid).

As I explained in my last blog post 07/07/07, I was set to go and see Encyclopedia play in Leeds. I got there alright, met up with Amanda and went onto the venue (which was a really cool place). We managed to catch the end of the first support act, then Gavin Osborn and then the new fresh line-up of Encyclopedia.

Gavin Osborn artwork

I didn't get to stick around to see headliners Tellison, which was a shame, but Encyclopedia were fucking great and Gavin Osborn was good too - I ended up buying his CD the next day. Here's a free track for your ears to sample, hosted on senduit.com (link expires 27th July 2007)

Over recent weeks, when I'm not in work, time seems to go really fast - which is a bad thing. I don't seem to have time to do all the things I want to, and my free time dissolves quickly and I'm left standing there wondering where it all went - and why it feels like I'm always in work. What's going on?

I reckon I just need to get out more; get back into photography (because even flickr shows I've been slack as of late - no new photos this month), go to more gigs and social events. Maybe I should've bought the Nikon SB-800 Speedlight instead of the HD-DVD player. Hehe.

Thanks to everyone who still reads my blog; leave me a comment please - let me know what you thought of the free mp3 (link expires 27th July 2007), at least.

Oh No!!

, , , ...

The sexy pop duo Encyclopedia have had to pull out of my party on the 29th!! I'm absolutely gutted and on the hunt to find a suitable replacement. I've asked the Alcopop-tastic DATA.SELECT.PARTY and hoping to hear back from them soon. I don't quite know them though, so I'll owe them a big favour if they play for us.

It seems like the next few days are going to be a bit mad too. Later today I'm meeting a few people for drinks; it's Mark Dormand's leaving With piss-up. After that, I'm going straight to Leeds because Amanda's 21st birthday falls on tomorrow and I have no money to buy her anything, so am going to spend the day with her instead - I believe we're heading to Flamingo Land.

Satureday, when I return to Manchester there's one of two options; a Manchester's blogger meet-up, or a Manchester Flickr meet-up. I have always told myself I'd go to one of these things and since there's two on the same day, I've declared that I should be at one of them.

Well, I guess I'll have something to post about on my return, whether it be the number of flamingos at Flamingo Land, how many great new people I met at one of these blog meets, or how I had to cancel the lot because I couldn't afford to do any of it.

At some point during the day, the forum will be unavailable as ill be moving it to our new shiny web server.

Sugar, We're Going Down... - Gamestyle Forums

It seems like everyone's moving to new servers at the minute... Gamestyle, Opera Community... and yes. That covers it. That is everyone.

So, this morning has been spent doing various server tasks. I think I've broken the email system at Gamestyle - so it best be that people don't email me on that address for the next hour or two whilst I sort it out.

Elsewhere in the world (though there is little world outside of Gamestyle for me at the minute), there's been a few more updates in the world of Matthew.

Number 1

I bought a Nintendo Wi-Fi dongle. I had a wi-fi router type thing in my house that I acquired some time ago. However, it was broke and a pain in the arse to get working. I only used the thing for Nintendo Wi-Fi - everything else in the house runs off cables.

So, I wanted to play Animal Crossing. I needed more fruit, and stuff - and I wanted to visit someone's town. This prompted me to go out and buy a Nintendo Wi-Fi dongle. Its nice. it was a pain in the arse to set up; install, break it, uninstall, uninstall something else, turn off firewalls, restart computer, reinstall, set up firewalls to allow this thing to go through, restart computer... argh!

But now its set up. I did want to play Animal Crossing, but realised I dont know anyone else with Animal Crossing. I headed across to the Nintendo group at Opera Community and added my details to the Friend Code Exchange - so if anyone wants to hook up - give me a shout.

I got back in Opera IRC where shoust was. So we had a quick game on Mario Kart instead. I won.

Number 2

I have switched back to Flock. Sorry Opera. I love Opera, but sometimes I get bored of not being able to use cool things like the StumbleUpon toolbar, or have Alexa track what I'm visiting, or be able to use the Yahoo! Toolbar (because I use a lot of Yahoo! services).

I am however still using Opera for my IRC and email. So all is not lost.

Number 3

I have work again. From tomorrow (!) I'm going to be back at With HQ doing some freelance work. They have me down for 5 days. That money has been used to pay for Gamestyle's new hosting. Hurrah! Haha.

And I'm quite bored of writing this post now...

I'll update my blog again soon. I've got a whole host of project 365 photos to upload and also, there's some stuff that I'll have to blog about in future. I'll let you know how work went, this saturday its my nephew's christening, hopefully Amanda will come to Manchester this weekend, and on sunday (if I've got my dates correct), I want to have a bonfire in my back garden. Wicked.

I'm sorry for the lack of updates; but I've been busy here and there. Despite what my mother might think (who actually reads my blog), one can be busy working on stuff whilst sat in their room all day.

Goodbye!

Blogged with Flock

I have a new phone.

, , , ...

It's true. I ended up getting a Sony Ericsson W810i, I think. Like my last phone, it has a 2 MegaPixel camera on the back; so I've been using it for the past week or so to test the quality.

This first photo is taken from the album titled 'Day Out With Amanda' - and it was just that. I took last Thursday off work and met her. We watched Cartoon Network at hers, went for a walk - seeing some horse on the way - and ending up back at a park, watching small kids hit each other in the face with big sticks and playing on the under 5's playground. Later on that night, we went to the cinema to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

This second photo is from the album titled 'Sketchy Stuff'. My blog is called Sketchy Stuff because I used to draw a lot of stuff. I'd put it online at yayhooray.com, however, not many people used to visit.

Anyway, recently I've been drawing more often - which is a good thing. Most of my doodles originate from boring meetings in work, or just general downtime I have about the office. I've took a few shots of things I've done and put them in one album. The more I sketch, the more I'll update.

That's all, for now.

Louder Than Words

, , , ...

Generally, pictures do speak louder than words; but sometimes its nice to hear some words too - so I deem it time to update my blog instead of just uploading photos.

This past weekend was good. It was blazing hot with great weather all weekend. A great opportunity to... laze around the house all morning - because that's what happened on Saturday. Vikki was round and we stayed in bed until about 2pm. I don't particularly mind, because it didn't quite feel like we stayed in bed all morning.

England were playing Paraguay that day in the World Cup; so we took that as an opportunity to drive to Tess and Eric's. Eric is my godfather, and every so often we go round there for dinner and to have a few drinks and stuff. Because the World Cup was on, the roads were completely empty and it didn't take too long to get there. I think, from looking at these pictures, that everyone was in Manchester:

Speaking of which, the other day I went around and took a few more photos of Manchester. There's some of people, there's some more buildings. I added them to the My City: Manchester photoset. Here's one sign that you should all follow:

Sunday was followed up by going to visit Amanda in Leeds. We spent the day in Hyde Park with one of her friends. We had a little picnic-esque affair, and then played with random park toys we had, like poi and spinning plates. Click the picture of Laura playing poi to see a few more pictures:

And that's about the top and tail of my weekend. Now, I'm back at work. We don't have much to do at the minute - hence why I have time to write a blog post. Over the past few weeks I've restarted and got hooked on Animal Crossing DS. It's great.

Catch ya laters.

All Work and No Play

, , , ...

Well, that's somewhat a lie... but I have been really busy this past week. In fact, since I last posted, we've been hectic in work with a Reebok job that we needed to get out the door. Even though it was quite stressful, for some, it was certainly fun to hear and see the workplace alive and kickin' again after a recent redundacy situation.

Anywho, as I brush my work and mid-week late nights out the way, I swiftly move onto what was the start of this weekend. Friday night seen the arrival of my girlfriend, Vikki, in Manchester. She had not only come to stay at mine for the weekend, but I (with a little help) had got myself on the guest list for the sold out Little Man Tate gig at The Roadhouse.

Friday night I was working late, but determined not to miss the bands; so Vikki made her way across town and straight to my works where she sat and entertained herself whilst I finished work (and rode around the office on Jen's bike). When we were done at the office, we headed across town to the venue.

Arriving at the venue, I knew a fair few people. There were greetings left, right and center as I said 'hi' to the regulars at Little Man Tate gigs, old friends, familar faces amid the Manchester music scene and the bands playing that night. I spoke to a few of the guys from Little Man Tate (last.fm), and Jon said something along the lines of 'Coxy! A famous music photographer now, are we?'... heh, not quite. I don't know what gave him that idea.

Support for the night came from the way of The Satellites. I stood looking at them, watching them play, thinking; 'I'm sure I know that drummer from somewhere'. I asked Ben Taylor what his name was - but the name didn't ring any bells... that was until I'd remembered that I see this guy virtually every morning on the way into work! Oh what a small world...

As for Little Man Tate when they got onstage; they set the crowd alight! They played quite well, and knew how to work the crowd and created a real buzz about the place. Everyone went wild when the 'bigger hits' came on, and I'm glad I didn't miss out. Like the previous outing in Manchester, when Little Man Tate hit the last song, the crowd hit the stage. People ran all over the show, scrambling to get onto the stage - at the dismay of the security present, who were trying to control the uncontrollable.

Back home, and the following day, Vikki and I just chilled out. I think we spent most of the day in bed and playing on my Xbox. Though, I could be wrong. The day just seemed to disappear - I don't even remember it that well, to be honest. I do know, however, that Saturday night my mum and dad's friends Avril and Andy were round. We all had a chinese take-away.

The main plan for Sunday was that we had a christening to attend. My cousin (?) Carla and her boyfriend have had a little kiddy which was getting christened. We all got dressed up somewhat and went to the church to watch the service, which was followed by what was less of a party, and more of a social gathering, afterwards. But it was good; good to see all the family again. What's more, it was a good opportunity for Vikki to meet some more of my family.

Today was pay-day, which is grand - I've already been buying on Amazon. Since it's a Monday too, I had work to go to. Vikki stayed over at mine on the Sunday and it's great to wake up next to her. Unfortunately, we had to bid our farewells as she headed back to Chester as I made my way to work.

It's cool though, because she'll be back soon enough when we'll head to Taking Back Sunday (last.fm) at the Manchester Academy 1 and then to see The Da Vinci Code (IMDb). Plus, this weekend, I think I'll take a trip to Leeds to see my beloved friend Amanda.

Happy Days.

Living for the Weekend

, , , ...

The internet is a wonderful thing, yet I probably spend too much time on it - which is a bad thing, probably. However, in saying that, there are some wonderful things out there that everyone should see. So here's a few links that I'm going to post to let you know what I've been browsing over the past few weeks. Inter-dispersed with a few random observations.

House Of Cosbys
on Google Video

This is an animated cartoon that was made and put on the internet. It got popular, a few more were made in a similar vain and Cosby's lawyer threatened to sue. So it got taken down, nearly. I was linked through to this by reading waxy.org.

Chu Chu Rocket
for your mobile phone

Chu Chu Rocket is an addictive puzzle game that used to be around on the Sega Dreamcast. I remember playing countless hours on this game, trying to get all the mice in the rockets. It was also one of the few games that I managed to experience online using the Sega Dreamcast - and now the game's on my phone! You can download a free demo by visiting the link above on your phone.

The Paper Trumpet
on Google Video

Laurie Laptop works in my office and hangs around with all the cool trendy people in Manchester's music scene. Together they do whacky things and make movies like The Paper Trumpet. It's quite strange, and features Lord Mongo (who used to be my college tutor) as the lead role. Laurie Laptop did all the music on this 'artsy' video.

Technorati
at http://technorati.com/

Technorati is the number one source for finding out what people are talking about on the web. Why? Because it's a search engine for weblogs. Because I'm fairly geeky, I love to find out what people think on all the new and latest happenings both on and off the web. It's all there, you can search a particular phrase or word (eg, "google calendar"), by tags (eg, Iran), or by url (eg, Ice Age 2 at IMDB). Marvellous.

Incredible Machines
at PistolWimp

For those of you that were impressed with that Honda ad, titled 'Cog' - you ain't seen nothin' yet! Here's a video showcasing around 12 minutes worth of Rube Goldberg inventions to promote a Japanese TV Show. (thanks Laurie)

Pimp My Snack
delightful chocolate treats

Finally, we come onto desert. A not so classy desert in the ways and means of Pimp My Snack. Amongst the 'pimping projects' we see the Jam Wagon Wheel, Jaffzilla and one that you can try this easter weekend; the Giant Creme Egg.

Other Stuff

It was only the other day where I realised that the wonderful Opera Community, as lovely as it is, isn't great with Internet Explorer. See, when I insert images into my blog posts on here, Opera shows them at a nice size within the post and scales them down. Internet Explorer doesn't, and makes it look messy.

Yesterday I'd planned, but didn't go to the Bromheads Jacket gig that was at the Jabez Clegg. I wore my Opera t-shirt and hoodie in preperation, but just wasn't in the mood after work. My next gig is on Sunday where I'll see Encyclopedia play in Manchester. They're staying the night at mine; and possibly coming for a big Easter Sunday roast dinner before hand. My best friend Amanda might also be coming down from Leeds for the night too. And, of course, Vikki will be here too.

That's all for now.

Importance of Understanding

, , , ...

So, as I said in my last post; I was off work Thursday and Friday and took a trip to Leeds to see Amanda. It was good to see her and all the other folk in Leeds. When I got there I decided I should learn to find my own way around Leeds for future visits, so took it upon myself to make my own way to Amanda's house on foot, instead of getting the bus or taxi.

The coach arrived in Leeds at 12.30pm. At around 3.30pm, I'd arrived at Amanda's house. I admit, I got lost a few times; but at least I know my way around now. (you see how that works?) Beside, its not like Amanda was awake anyway - she was still tucked up in bed with her boyfriend, Chris.

Thursday night both Amanda and Chris were working at FAB Cafe. So, I spent the evening propping up the end of the bar. It wasn't so bad, and I didn't really mind. At least I was getting to see Amanda. We got home at around 4.30am and went straight to bed. It was good to have chance to sleep after a long day.

On the Friday, Chris was working again in FAB, so Amanda and I had the day to spend together. We went round the shops and I bought her a really pretty dress that she wanted. I hate having money - and love spending it. I usually spend it on all sorts of crap, but its great when I get to spend it on my friends.

At about 6.30pm, Amanda and I made our way to FAB Cafe to meet her boyfriend who finished work at 7pm. Because it was St Patrick's Day, everywhere was full of people pretending to be Irish and drinking Guinness. The three of us were quite bored of that, so went home and watched movies all night.

Saturday, I woke up about 11.30am and bidded farewell to Amanda and made my way to the coach station to go back to Manchester. I hung around in Manna, a nice cafe in Picadilly Gardens, whilst I waited for Vikki to arrive from Chester. When she got to the station, we went around the shops in Manchester. I bought a cool A-Team bag made from an old original A-Team duvet! How wicked is that?!?

Vikki stayed over Saturday night, and on Sunday we went to the Trafford Centre for a look 'round, and then to the cinema to see V for Vendetta (info | imdb). Personally, I loved V for Vendetta (info | imdb) to the point of wanting to applaud at the end of it (and not because it was over), but without wanting to hype it up in the slightest; go and see it and make of it what you think.

Speaking of movies, I've also joined Amazon's DVD Rental Service. Right now, through the letterbox at home, I should have Sin City (info | imdb) sat awaiting my arrival. I've decided to sign up to the rental service because it seems a great deal - especially when I have the capability to copy the DVDs.

Anywho, I'm back in work now, and the weekend is over. I will end with a quote. Its not something I'd usually do, or something you'll probably understand - but nevertheless;

The phone rings to a barrage of small words, all of which lead to a greater meaning. Coherency is slim, but importance of understanding is sought after for all to be well and the situations returns to the calm of the night. She could've been a poet or she could've been a fool - just sing me to sleep.

Knock Down, Drag Out

, , , ...

Hmm, Vikki was right when she said that this week's going to drag... We're barely into the week, closing off a Tuesday, and it feels like it should be a Thursday or Friday. Everything's taking so long, as I'm looking forward to the weekend ahead.

In saying that; this working week will be a short one for me. Tomorrow (being Wednesday), I get paid - so, I've booked Thursday and Friday off work, and will be travelling to Leeds to see the wonderful Amanda Laila Eid. We seem to be quiet in work at the minute, so its not like I'll be missed, whereas I know Amanda has missed me loads, and I of her - so it will be great to catch up!

Following on from Friday, I'll be back in Manchester for the real weekend which will see Vikki coming over to my house on the Saturday. Hopefully, Hassan and Hocine will be alright to go to the cinema on Saturday night, and I'll get to show Vikki off to a few of my mates.

Sunday will probably be a lazy day, and I'll spend most of my time in bed. Huzzah!

This is actually the first weekend in a while that's actually been planned. Usually I find out what I'm doing a few hours before it happens. I feel all organised - but will be gutted if it doesn't happen as planned.

Meanwhile, to keep me entertained, I have around 50 music CDs (all albums) that I need to re-ripp to my external hard drive. See, a fair few months ago I copied various tracks off albums and onto my mobile phone... only, I thought I'd copied them. What I'd actually done was moved them - and so when I deleted them off my phone - that's it. Gone.

So, I've made the decision to ripp the whole album to the HD again. This way, it's just going to ensure all my albums are of a decent quality - because before, half the CDs were imported into iTunes using its' default 128kps AAC format. This time its 192kps MP3 all the way!

For other albums that I've downloaded recently (with the intention of buying, should they be worthy of my cash); I've been tagging them up using MusicBrainz. I used to use this service a while back, when I downloaded a lot of music - but since then I switched to purchasing CDs instead. Now I'm going through a skint period (financially), I'm downloading once again. So MusicBrainz is my friend.

Oh, and to round this post off neatly, I'll just point out that I felt the need to include a photo in the post today to stop it being text-heavy. So, here's my latest photo from my Manchester photoset.
