Sheffield-based trio Darlings of the Splitscreen have a new E.P. coming out on 1st December 2008. There's four tracks on the release and In/Out is a great track which is bound to get you on your feet and dancing around your bedroom!
You can preview the E.P. on Last.fm and then pre-order the physical copy by going to the band's MySpace profile and locating the release in the left-hand column. Track 3 is well worth the 3 GBP alone! In fact, any Darlings of the Splitscreen release comes marked as 'Recommended by coxy' - so purchase a few more whilst you're there.
Better still, DOTS have a number of live dates across Europe throughout the course of December 2008. If you're located anywhere near Sheffield (UK), Berlin, Hamburg or Hannover - pop along to the relevant venue, watch them live and then purchase the release from them directly. More details, as always, on the band's MySpace.
Around 600 copies of the EP were pressed and Tubelord only play 2 of the tracks in live shows nowadays. "Does that mean they've become Tubelord artefacts?" asks Joseph.
Track Listing:
Propeller
Ultra-Machine
The Death of a Digital Alarm Clock
Arm Watches Fingers
You can catch Tubelord at various UK venues from November 2008 through to January 2009; including Nastyfest in Leeds and Sŵn Festival in Cardiff. For more tour dates and other information, hit up their MySpace.
I love Every Avenue. They may be pop, and sound like the older (and way cooler) American brother to Busted... or even a less mainstream and more excitable Fall Out Boy - but as we discovered with Over & Out, there's nothing wrong with that every once in a while.
I owe the discovery to music blog It Leaked(can anyone say 'pirate'? Arrgh!), but from being introduced to them, I've since purchased their EP, their debut Album, two t-shirts and a few stickers - so we can't say that illegally sharing music is always a bad thing now, can we?
With that in mind, you can find two of their tracks attached to this blog post. One will be off the "Ah!" EP and t'other from their debut album "Shh, Just Go With It". If you like bands such as All Time Low, Hit the Lights or Fall Out Boy - you should download these tracks right now and give them a listen.
If you like what you hear, check out their MySpace or put your hand in your pocket and choose from loads of merch on Every Avenue's official store. All the prices are US Dollars, but quite cheap because of the exchange rates - even after international delivery. Score!
Dev (aka Lightspeed Champion) is known for keeping in touch with his fans through MySpace and releasing home-made material online; and that's just what he's done today. "Here's the 'Bad Xmas E.P' For you all to criticize/enjoy.... It's just a bit of fun," Dev writes.
Here's a rundown of the track listing from the man himself with download links to follow. I've taken the liberty of tidying up the ID3 tags before re-uploading the release to keep your music library and Last.fm profile clean.
01) Intro (I Forgot To Wrap Your Present) I asked my good friend Victoria who's an amazing pianist to do interpretations of a xmas song I wrote which happens to be track 4 on this e.p,,, i sent her the rough demo and she sent me back two different tracks, this is the first one. beautiful.
02) Happy New Year This is a cover version of a famous ABBA song, which was taken off their late 80's album "Super Trouper"... I love the song, so attempted a cover.. i'm sorry to everyone that loves and to everyone that hates ABBA
03) Another Song About Being Alone I wrote this song a couple nights ago actually... came out in one take.. so i added a bit of backing vocals...in my head it's a full band power pop song.. obviously in my bedroom, i did'nt have the means to pull this off..
04) I Forgot To Wrap Your Present I don't know why all my xmas songs are coming out negative.. who knows, maybe i'm uncovering something deep down in me.. anyway.. I quite like this song, it might be my musical peak... and I blew it all on a free garageband xmas e.p... there's no hope...
05) Outro (I Forgot To Wrap Your Present) This is the second track the wonderful Victoria sent backed to me.. based on the ending of "I Forgot To Wrap Your Present."
06) Perfect Harmony I wrote all of the music for this song on the 6 hour train ride from london to glasgow i did a couple weeks back whilst on tour with patrick wolf. Whilst traveling in the van I asked my good friend Fifi Brown to do some kid noises... she did, so did patrick... then patricks violinist piggy... did the operatic vocal you can hear just before the beat kicks in.... Patrick then wanted to do a spoken word intro... so he wrote something down quickly and recorded it...
A few nights ago I did some quick take vocals to it... it..'s funny how all the vocals in the van came out better than the ones in my kitchen, go figure... I might just put the instrumental online....
As Dev said, the EP is just "a bit of fun" and you can hear more of Lightspeed Champion's music on his MySpace Profile or buy stuff from Amazon.
Alcopop! really are my favourite label. At the minute they're giving away some free music for the next two weeks - the new EP from Family Machine. To be honest, I've listened to (and like) the title track, but not really listened to the other tracks enough to form an opinion.
Save off each of the tracks below and the cover art (it is full-size) and add them to your music collection. After the two weeks is up, they'll be gone - you will have to hand over your hard-earned cash to a popular digital music store for the goods, so be quick!
Today, as I listened to a Bloc Party EP, I realised that they are not only really good and that I'm always playing this EP, but that I don't actually own their album, Silent Alarm.
So, this is where I be a really cheeky sod and say that anyone who wants to buy me either Bloc Party's Silent Alarm or Silent Alarm (Remixed) - feel free to take a trip to my Amazon Wishlist where you will find them both listed.
Because its on my Wishlist, it will get sent directly to me should you buy it, and I will be grateful. I'm sure it's a brilliant album and will look marvellous in my CD collection.
