The Towel Trick
Thursday, January 25, 2007 8:47:21 PM
This post is mainly going to be about something completely random, and related to the title; but I just thought I'd let you know how the interview went.
Cheers to all those who wished me luck, etc. Code's offices are really cool, very swish. I recognised two people in there because they used to work at With; so they said hi in the time I was there. In terms of the the interview, it went alright, I suppose. There were a few times where I probably could've presented myself better - but whatever, I got through it. One thing that was a bit crap was that the disc I'd took to showcase my work on didn't work.
But luckily, I had a backup online.
I got to send some more work through today. And now, I guess it's just a case of sitting and waiting.
So, onto the main topic; and that would be about towels. Towels... and Xbox 360s.
If you're a videogames fan (if you're not a gaming fan, don't switch off - because this is interesting), and follow the gaming news, you may have seen at the start of this month reports detailing of how to fix your Xbox 360 should it not start up and show the three red lights of doom. As Gamestyle reports you should do the following:
Amazingly, FIVE out of six have said that this actually does work! One of those five had said that whilst it did work, he could swear his picture quality is poorer than it was before (?) - but at least the 360 is working again.
So, if you, or any one of your friends has an Xbox 360 die on them; you know what to do.

At first, I thought this was just a bit of a laugh... but Gamestyle has a MySpace (which I happen to run; please be our friend). So far, there's been a total of 6 people who have all told Gamestyle that their Xbox 360 has died on them, and so I've taken the opportunity to divert their attention to the appropriate news post.Gamestyle on How to fix a dead Xbox 360
- DON'T PANIC.
- Grab your trusty towel.
- Wrap the Xbox 360 in it. Turn it on for 15 minutes or so.
- Remove Towel. Ding! You're done.

Gotta Catch 'Em All

Prepare to heckle me as I bring forth to the proverbial table of coxy's blog, that I have started playing Pokemon once again.
Okay, so let me explain; Pokemon is not a bad thing. Yes, yes, yes; it does have a really bad reputation - but this is because it became a popular game with the kids. All the kids had Pokemon, and I admit, most of those kids were gay or five years of age - but that doesn't mean its shite.
See, when Pokemon (the original release) was first about I bought it. I'm into video games, and it scored really well in all the reviews I'd read, warranting a 'must buy' status. I went out and bought a Gameboy Pocket and Pokemon Red - spending hours playing the title.
I'm not trying to lay claim to the fame, but it was not too long after my purchase that the title started to take off. For a short time it was like any other good game that nobody else knew about, until it hit the mainstream.
Gaming is renowned for being a 'geeky' pastime - its always had that image, and I think that its only recent years that its beginning to shake off those shackles. Pokemon came under this banner, and has remained there. Gaming is only 'geeky' to those who are il-informed. Pokemon gets a tarnished reputation by those who have never played it. Those that play, love.
So, the other day I picked up my Nintendo DS. The 'DS' stands for Dual Screen, for those who aren't in the know. What you can do with this bit of kit is play the latest handheld DS games. What's also smart about it is that you can play your older Game Boy Advance (GBA) games.
The only GBA game I have is Pokemon FireRed. I bought this because its an updated version of the original Pokemon Red - to me, anything other than Pokemon Red and Blue (the original two releases) don't seem right. In this update; the maps are the same, the characters are the same, the Pokemon are the same - its just now in colour, and has a few nice features from newer versions included.
So, there I was. I figured I'd have a quick 15 minute blast on the thing - to reminisce about old times. Now, if I check the in-game clock, I've been playing for around eight hours. That's one of Pokemon's charms; its addictive.
Hopefully, and unlike any books I've read recently, I'll follow this through to the end. It is a great game, and one that's served me in my many hours of boredom - and hopefully this time round it will be equally impressive.
My advice to you would be that if you've never experienced the joys of Pokemon, wait a few months, and go out and get yourself a Game Boy Micro with a copy of Pokemon FireRed. You don't know what you're missing.
