yahoo, yahoo research, movies, film
...
Its interesting to see new things on the web; and its more interesting to see them come from
Yahoo! I should think that soon, I'll have to post about something else - either that or rename my blog so it has
Yahoo! in the title.
Well, today I show you the
'International Remixer'. Some of you may be aware that the
49th annual San Francisco International Film Festival, which shines a spotlight on great independent film projects from all over the world, is currently ongoing. This year, on their website, they have the
'International Remixer' which has been created by
Yahoo! Research Berkeley and
San Francisco State University.

So, what is this thing?
International Remixer enables you to create your very own movie mashups. Go crazy with creativity and re-edit, remix and mash-up film selections from this year's festival into 1-minute remixes. You can then post your remixes to the site gallery for others to view and enjoy.
Its a great little web-based tool that looks the part and works superbly well. If you have any ideas, complaints, comments, feedback or just want to chat about the remixer,
Yahoo! want to hear it.
Can't wait to try it out? I've registered a generic account for you all to toy about with:
Click through to the Remixer and login using the
username blogreader and
password password.

social calendar, web, internet, web 2.0
...
Isn't it a pain in the arse when you invite a bunch of people out somewhere, and you don't know whether they're coming or not? Or, when you're sat at home thinking 'oooh, what can I do to entertain myself today?' Well, here to make our lives better is the wonderful thing that is 'the internet'
More specific; there's a trendy website called '
Upcoming' which you can visit at
http://upcoming.org/ Really, its just a calender. But a '
social calendar' (or for you geeky types; a '
global events calendar'). See, what you do is add things that you're going to do, and where you're going to do them. The difference is that you can not only keep them personal, but choose to share these with friends and family, or if you choose to; the world. And they can invite themselves, or you can invite people to join you - and see who's attending.
A good example would be the
Foo Fighters gig at
Lancashire Cricket Club later this year. Well, since its already listed you can click on the event and just add it to your personal calender. It will also show you all your friends who are going
(so long as they're signed up to the website) and then other random people who are going too. It shows where it is, and you can get directions from either
Yahoo! or
Google Maps. It shows the date and time of the event and can send you a reminder by text or email for the forgetful amongst us.
Genius. Its also useful for finding out about events in your area. If you're at a loss for something to do tonight
(or any other night this month, that is), why not head to
Upcoming to see what's going down in your area and to see if anyone else is going... Okay, so there's not many users at the minute. But don't let that put you off! The more people that use it, the better it's going to be.
