tag: five things you didn't know about me

,

I have managed not to be tagged by anybody until now, hiding away in my dark quiet corner, but Emily broke the spell - thanks smile …even though I don't like blog games. But then I had great fun spending the last few days trying to find those five things about me that you wouldn't know but still somehow care (even though you didn't know you'd care…). And finally, the list:

  1. I love coffee - proper coffee is only ever made with either a moka express or a cezve.
  2. I can easily multitask - as long as the tasks are making use of the same communication channel: if e.g. all tasks are read/write. But if I have to read/speak, I quickly get stuck.
  3. I am one of two people who have done extensive research on the iconography of the transverse flute in the European Middle Ages (yes, in one of my lives I am a professional musician) - the database is not public (yet).
  4. I currently speak eight living European languages, and read several dead ones.
  5. I love dictionaries - they are the key to the world: being able to name things by their name is the first step to getting to know them.

So - that's done coffee and I in turn tag Eira, Jorunn, Lynn, Jonny and Chaals because I know they are as much into blog games as I am wink

OK, I'll play -- am I allowed to do my list in Norwegian, or should I consider myself English-tagged? :-)

I guess there is no rule for that smile Choose the language you feel most confortable with.

Due to lack of active blog, I'll limit myself to a comment :-)

I also really like coffee, but the only proper coffee is made with a Moka express? What about the Cafétière? It requires some practice to get the timing and dosage right (which can be tricky in the morning) but when done correctly, the coffee is both smooth-tasting and strong. What more can you wish for! bigsmile

Holy crap! EIGHT languages? I'm more than impressed- I'm astounded. You must be like Einstein or something! And what is a transverse flute?

Glad you played, Claudio. See, it wasn't so bad, was it?

Claudio Santambrogiocsant Saturday, December 30, 2006 7:57:21 PM

What about the Cafétière?

Coffee can be good in many ways, but some are better than others - to me.

And what is a transverse flute?

English, Italian, Spanish, German, Norwegian. What else? French? Swedish? Catalan? Something cooler?

Claudio Santambrogiocsant Tuesday, January 2, 2007 8:49:58 AM

Italian German English Dutch Spanish Portuguese French Norwegian I speak. I understand Catalan, Galician, Rumantsch and Swedish (I am quickly forgetting the bit of Greek and Turkish I knew...). And I read Old Italian, Occitan, Middle High German, old French, Middle English and Latin. Struggling with Old Norse at the moment... smile

Hrmph. If you by "because I know they are as much into blog games as I am" mean not at all, you're on the money. I'll see if I can overcome this revulsion, it is probably good for me.

Claudio's language skills are impressive, I fully expect to be out-Old Norsed this year (not too hard, I am a complete amateur in that), but I don't think he knows any Slavic languages (my last chance for a nyah-nyah-nyah).

Jonny Axelssonjax Tuesday, January 2, 2007 8:57:27 AM

Heh, what did I say: No Slavic languages at all. Nyah-nyah-nyah.

Claudio Santambrogiocsant Tuesday, January 2, 2007 9:00:56 AM

Indeed - you were right on the spot for both assumptions smile

Hypothetically taken, catching up with this could be a matter of time. But - ars longa, vita brevis.

Surely you can also read Danish. And if you can do old Norse you're pretty close to the money for Icelandic (at least as long as you are only reading about cutting people in little pieces, sailing across the ocean, and so on).

I wonder what happened to my small collection of Old Norse texts. Still I could once read Old English and Latin too, and struggle through Ancient Greek. Middle English I think I can do still.

But I guess I have a bit of work to catch up...

вот слово хорошо is just a party trick. But maybe I should get ploughing into my language books again.

Claudio Santambrogiocsant Monday, January 8, 2007 3:43:58 AM

Icelandic… is one of my longstanding dreams. I once got all set up to learn Icelandic, but then gave up again due to the lack of a real drive. When I recently picked up again a few of the books from that time, I noticed to my great pleasure that I could read through them and almost follow smile So yes, I probably am not too far away. As far as slavic languages is concerned, it hypothetically is only a matter of time - but practically a bit further off for the time being. With the exception of Romanian I cover virtually all major romance languages, the germanic ones are next…

Speaking of languages, one should never, ever forget about Mousean, even if provided with 20 other attractive speeches. Mousean is a daughter of all known (and yet unknown) languages, and, that is quite obvious to every mouse - is the language of the happy future.

What made me thinking here is that nobody even tried to spot a lie inbetween the verses of the list. pssst angel

Well, I guess that's all taken care of. You speak eight languages? that is very impressive, rather amazing.

Hallvord R. M. Steenhallvors Friday, January 19, 2007 10:27:50 PM

Very impressed by your language list smile I'll drop in and speak Icelandic one day to see how far you are.. ;-)

Eight languages... wow.
