Introduction

An original title for a first post eh? This blog doesn't have a set purpose yet... It will likely span a range of interests, most of which are in the technology area.
I am currently dabling with the Ruby programming language.
I am a professional Java systems developer, with experience in C++, C, perl, and python...
Ruby interests for two particular reasons. One, it is simple like smalltalk, so I'm looking at it as an environment to introduce my 10 year old child to programming ( She asked. ) I find it difficult to find materials on programming for youth. I started full throttle programming at about the same age. I wrote some games in basic, and assembly back then between my 5th and 6th grade school years. But back then I had no fear. The manual for my TI-99/4A said, if you mess it up, just turn it off and back on... the beauty of firmware. I couldn't break it with bits... Anyway...
The second reason I like ruby is that it has robust integration with the gnome desktop libraries. As a linux desktop user, Ruby provides easy access to the facilities. ( Easy might be overstating it, as documentation is still like swiss cheese, and I find myself reading the C++ gnome gtk api docs, but at least they mostly apply... )
Anyway, I should be off to work.
