Ubuntu Netbook Remix

The Ubuntu Netbook Remix is a pretty slick, and simple menu UI... search Synaptic for 'netbook' and add it to your Ubuntu 9.04 desktop... I'm particularly interested for use on my tablet pc.. ( once I get the touch screen working again ) the large icon UI really fits the bill.
I'd like to see a few additions... selecting the files on the right hand side ( like going to pictures or documents ) should browse the files in the same may the system menu icons are browsed... That would be slick. Or maybe I just need a matching nautilus theme so the illusion of cool isn't broken so abruptly.
Other things like an open applications list would be useful. Maybe some of that can be handled with mouse gestures and compiz 'scale'.
After using this for a bit, I noticed it replaced the window manager with maxima-window-manager... (always maximizes the app, and omits window decorations... ) This was cool for a few minutes. However it also seemed to have the consequence of disabling the application switching, turned off compiz, and now gnome-panel frequently fails to start. (may be unrelated, it is all beta still.)
I can manually re-instate things.. some of that is by design.. I can see the full screen app bit as a plus.
To me, the netbook-launcher would be cool if it was more simply a full screen application, that I could switch to like any other application... In fact that would be superior for my taste. as it stands... I don't know how to get back to the netbook-launcher menu.
