We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing ~

Spring, Holidays, Culturin's Best, Interesting Current Event
Under cloudy sky heavy enough for bringing my cloud motif umbrella I walked downtown for the annual Easter celebration in the courthouse gardens
The yard~ filled to capacity seating like most years~ this year had a quite different atmosphere
Gone, the colorful banners that lined the streets in previous years~ and no flowers on the altar stage
Only crosses erected here and there around the yard with black & red banners~
This year’s theme~
“RELENTLESS~ God’s Love Pursues You”.
Potted non~flowering plants and succulents on the stage~
Hardly enough coffee to last a quarter hour after the service ~ no pastries
chocolate eggs or fruit
except for some apples on one table
Cheap homemade sugar cookies with sprinkles and mini-chocolate chip or orange frosted cup cakes
This event always impresses me for its reach exceeding that of the membership of that congregation
Easter is important whether or not the congregation hosting the celebration is pure or genuine in characterRead more...

Just why this congregation gets permission for celebrating Easter in the County Courthouse Gardens year~ after-year is a matter I have never heard discussed even though it involves closing three blocks of mid~city street traffic for half the day~ seems no one considers it possible conflict of Church and State
There are other location venues~ stadiums and outdoor theatres~ nearby that would entail much easier preparation and seating accommodating the Easter crowd that always exceeds capacity for the church's regular chapel
The contemporary Christian music bands from out of the region are always good
Best attended Easter event every year

The city center and waterfront hosted the usual July Fourth celebrations~
Each event~ particularly the concert~ were very well attended
The largest audience ever seen there
Starting with the parade~ then a concert by the local symphony orchestra
Culminating with the display of fireworks on the beach
