Ubuntu desktop icons not showing

Meus ícones do Desktop não estavam exibindo, sabe-se lá porque, descobri um post aleatório e finalmente a resposta. Mais um problema sem explicação para te manter ocupado.




My desktop icons on Ubuntu was not showing I don't know why, I finally got it displaying correctly again. Another nonsense problem to keep you busy



1- Open the Configuration Editor, by running the program gconf-editor (see the section called "Start a Program Manually"). 
2- Choose apps->nautilus->preferences.
3- Check Show desktop

Enso, Bumptop and productivity tools

E eu que achava que o Enso era minha revolução digital, agora veio mais um para turma, o Bumptop
Mais dois programinhas q estão se tornando fundamentais para mim:
Dropbox para compartilhar arquivos pela web (uso para salvar documentos que preciso ter sempre à mão, não importa o computador)
e o TrayDevil que minimiza as janelas para o relógio, deixando na minha barra de tarefas só o q eu uso na hora


I thought that Enso was my digital revolution but now Bumptop has joined my productivity team.
Other two softwares that are a must have for me:
Dropbox to share files throughout web (I use it to save documents that I need to be readily available)
and the TrayDevil that minimizes windows to the traybar (clock bar), so I have on my taskbar only that I am currently using

Sphinx, stemmer and accented letters

Finalmente consegui fazer meu sphinx ficar redondinho, normalizando para o português as palavras e ignorar a acentuação para uma busca mais abrangente

Estas foram as etapas

Finally cx_Oracle, Debian and Python 2.5

After months of annoying problems with cx_Oracle and my debian server that I had to reinstall, I finally found the main problem about the Enviroment Variables, it was because the server admin included wrong values for the variables, another problem is for Oracle 10 ONLY cx_Oracle5.0.1 works! (there's a problem with Chinese / Japanese Characters in Django session using 4.X) so here is the definitive step-by-step

add the following repository:
deb http://oss.oracle.com/debian unstable main non-free
(also check http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/xe-on-kubuntu.html)

Google AdManager is good, Open X is boresome

Estamos migrando do OpenX para o Google AdManager e ficamos assustados com relação em como organizar os banners em cada seção do site, por exemplo, banners de esporte, país, mundo, etc. No OpenX fazíamos através de filtros de url, mas no AM não tinha idéia. O vídeo demonstrativo ensina a criar um espaço para cada anúncio em cada página, o que resultou em 246 slots de banners. Por fim, encontramos a solução que não estava muito clara, a Segmentação.

Assim, podemos criar uma segmentação para cada uma das seções do site e na página incluir um atributo de segmentação ao banner por javascript.

We were having problem to configure our inventory in google admanger. Following the video tutorial we were creating 256 ads slots, but finally we got the answer reading this post. The easiest and more flexible solution is really using segmentation, but we can define it programatically. Hey Google, make it clearer in your learning materials!

Firefox redirects to localhost.com

Now, when there's a problem about my django application and try to access it (I use port 80 as default to my runserver) firefox insists of redirecting to localhost.com
So annoying

So I found this trick:

in firefox type about:config and change the setting for:

browser.fixup.alternate.enabled to false

Custom filter on django admin

We had to have a custom queryset for a model in Admin so we could have only the active records.
A teammate got it work by doing a new FilterSpec and I had to use it in another model.

First of all, create the FilterSpec for your admin:

Save the file and put it somewhere in your app to import later

It must be loaded at least once so the filter will be added to the list, I recommend put it in an admin.py file.

so, on top of your admin.py:

Then you must prepare your model to assure that the field can use FilterSpec¹

So, in your model do:

And finally, in your Admin class you must include this field as a list_filter and give a resultset to it:

class MyAdminOptions(ModelAdmin):
   ...
   list_filter = ('created_by',)
   custom_filter_spec = {'created_by': User.objects.filter(is_staff=True).order_by('username')}



So now, in my example, I can filter only by staff user in my admin page.

1: This models stuff is set in CustomFilterSpec. I believe it could work without this annoying step, just by changing the filter class, but I did not try.

cx_Oracle and Apache revised

Don't know why, but I couldn't make apache find the correct path to Oracle lib so I had to use os.environ['ORACLE_HOME'] and os.environ['LD_LIBRARY_PATH'] with the same values of the previous post BEFORE the database settings (ok, it may not be necessary to be before, but it's better for your teammates).

In fact I even tried to use SetEnv in my httpd.conf just like we do for Django settings, but no luck, just after putting it on my settings that it finally worked.
