Fargo carpet cleaning Creating the Modern Carpet

, , ,

Do you know how today's carpeting is actually made? Probably not as chances are the subject never really crossed your mind. That said the way in which thousands of individual fiber strands come together to form one roll of attractive carpet is actually rather interesting.Perhaps not interesting on the level of sparkling dinner party repartee but worth knowing if you are shopping for new carpets for your home or office.

Modern nylon carpeting starts out as a mere jumble of loose fibers that are called staples in the carpet trade. The beginning of the carpet making process is adding these staples to a hopper where they are heated to very high temperatures and various lubricates are added. The end result are slivers which are then wound onto huge spools.Once this is all done the serious business of carpet making gets underway.

Most modern carpets are created by following a manufacturing method that was dreamt up many decades ago in Dalton, Georgia, which is considered to be the unofficial carpet capital of the world. The process is called tufting. Tufting begins when a needle is used to push each individual sliver through the carpet backing.A hook called a looper hook holds them in place as the needle enters the backing again to form a loop. When tufting was invented all of this work was performed by humans, a tedious business indeed one imagines. These days robots are on the job and robots don't bore easily.

If the carpet in question is to be tufted when it finally hits the showrooms the process ends here. If the desired end result is a cut pile carpet though, the loopers, holding individual tufts of new carpeting are passed over some pretty sharp knives to create the desired look.

Coloring and dyes can be added at one of several different points in the actual carpet manufacturing process but the most common technique used today is the Beck process which plunges finished carpets into bubbling vats of hot water to which dyes are added gradually.

Another popular modern carpet coloring method is continuous dyeing. The actual strands themselves are dyed at the beginning of the carpet making process and then once they become a finished carpet they are sprayed with the color again.

In the end, before it is packed up and shipped out each carpet is washed again, vacuumed and checked over by human eyes for inconsistencies in the pile quality. Only then is it deemed fit to be packed off and shipped out, ready to serve its real purpose, beautifying the homes and offices of the world.
