Mimi G's - Bastrop, Texas

In our travels we have stopped at a lot of famous places to eat. Places that are renowned for their good food or entertainment. I find no need to blog about these as everyone knows about them but when I do find one of the beaten path, I like to let you know.
Mimi G's is such a place.
A friend was taking us out to a restaurant. It was dark and so was the road. Twisting back through the pines toward the lake and state park on FM 1441. What kind of place was she taking us to? A great place, as it turns out.
I can't take credit for discovering them. They have been in business for thirty-five years and a Google turns up lots of reviews.
The owner, Yolanda, has had the place for 15 years and works there with her daughter and grand daughter. I knew it was a family operation but I was thinking... sisters.
The steaks were tender and delicious. The service was fantastic (thanks, Wendy). We had to come back for the lunch special just to see if it was as good... it was.
It is little wonder that the locals all know about this place even if it is a little out of the way.

These are the kind of places I grew up with. When we would drive to Branson there was always a local place we stopped for breakfast. The staff knew you by name and exactly what you would order.

There was a family next to us and their kids started squealing and there was a big uproar.
Come to find out, the waitress had left a candy bug on the kids plate.
