My Little Owls

Well, they are back!
I heard the babies this morning and one of the little owls was guarding the nest.
Last year they started diving on me when I would go out on my back deck.
They didn't hurt of course. The first time one hit me I am going "what was that?"
They stand about 3 inches tall.

I have an update on the owls!
The little ones left the nest tonight, Friday, 6/15/07.
We were on the back deck to the office when we heard the owls. We watched as one flew past us and to the top of a big oak. While watching him, another swooped right over our heads and landed in the tree next to us.
I looked up at the nest and sure enough, there sat one of the babies bobbing his head at us.
Before I could get my camera, he had joined the others in the dark trees.
It was great to watch as they practiced from tree to tree under the watchful eye of the parents.

First, NO ONE NORMAL works the overnight shift ANYWHERE. This is ESPECIALLY true at Wal-Mart, a gigantic wasteland of career options, where you are working alongside people who restock Liquid Dawn dish soap and Golden Flake snacks eight hours a night for a living. IN GEORGIA. Surprisingly, this conglomeration of educationally inept rednecks had quite an elaborate social structure built into their little group, one that did NOT readily include people who pronounce the word "green" with only one syllable.
