Can you believe it? I spent more than half a day flipping through channels from the moment the inauguration went live on TV and occasionally clicking my mouse while there were commercials on TV. Barack Obama awed Americans and all the people around the world with his inaugural speech. And of course, both Michelle and Barack celebrating with the revelers and supporters during the inaugural balls. Those dance steps and the short speeches in all the 10 inaugural balls showed that this new First Family is indeed a people's family.
I also viewed some of the YouTube videos of my fellow Filipino, Charice Pempengco, singing One Moment in Time and God Bless America on the pre-inauguration balls held 2 days ago. Charice received a standing ovation. I have no pictures and videos to share but I thought I'd share my experience about this historic day.
Congratulations! President Barack Obama. You are a winner.
Hope that it's not too late to greet everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year! With all the negativity that the economic downturn has been bringing into our lives, I see no reason for us not to celebrate Year 2009. In fact, this is the time to stay positive and be resilient to weather the huge tidal waves that this recession/depression has brought upon us.
Yeah, you can call me a tree-hugger but all for a good reason. I've been found with a cyst in my right breast from my very first breast ultrasound and mammography. I had a biopsy done yesterday to see exactly what was found in the X-rays. I'm crossing my fingers and hope that the cyst is not cancerous. The discovery had scared me and made me hang on to my dear life more than I ever did. So, this prompted me to research on what causes breast cysts and breast cancers in general. One of the causes is the genetic history and the other culprit is "excess estrogens." I found a whole slew of articles on the internet which explains this condition. The conclusions I've come up with after my research are to eat only organic foods -(farm-raised and pesticide and herbicide-free) and concentrate on eating "cruciferous vegetables", which includes cabbage, broccolli, cauliflower, kale, kohlrabi, etc. I am also avoiding animal food including dairy and eggs; however, ifever, I get invited to a party that serves mostly meats and non-organic foods, I make sure that I eat before I go to the party, so I don't have to eat much at the party. And of course, at least 8 hours of sleep daily.
It's not easy to go green and organic after forty plus years of eating regular food. One reason is that it is hard to find organic stores and farms and the other is that it is EXPENSIVE! However, I think that I am benefiting from it already. I have not had any cold or cough or fever for the past 2 months considering that it is the flu season and considering that I am surrounded by sick people at work. I am knocking on wood because I did not get a flu shot as well. If you want to find out more about what I am talking about, here are a few websites that are worth reading:
Years ago, I stumbled on a photo blog called My Sari Sari Store maintained by a Belgian gentleman living in the Philippines. Since then, he had taken very interesting photos of the Philippines and through his eyes, many of his readers have been educated and enlightened with the Filipino way of life. Indeed, a picture paints a thousand words and Sidney has managed to paint this picture so vividly. He took a brief absence from photo blogging but he is now back to trot the streets of the Philippines to capture its fascinating and intriguing images. I am a Filipino and I have learned a lot about my country of birth through Sidney's pictures and stories.
Whew! Are you ready to face a 1930s Depression-like economy? I'm not. It appears that Uncle Sam is set to turn things around, I guess. Although, I am not particularly happy that they are going to use taxpayers' money, the solution is still better than nothing.
