Who, What, Where, When, Why

Life north of the Equator

I know, I know … hopeless I am!! I have been in the UK for 8 weeks and this will be my first blog entry. Heaps of reasons why the delay and all very valid … well, for me they are valid!! Really folks, life/time north of the equator is different. Cars may drive on the same side of the road but the indicator is on the left hand side of the steering column not the right. Silly place for it to be as I am forever turning on the windscreen wipers instead of indicating where I am going. Thank goodness British drivers are a tad more patient than Brisbane drivers.

In Brisbane time is marked by school days, weeks and the number of weeks until the next holidays. Here, north of the equator time is marked by baby feed times and the number of routine tasks that can be squished into the time before the next feed.

In Brisbane photocopied patterns, balls of wool, needles and ‘projects on the go’ are dotted around the house in convenient locations for picking up whenever one fancies. Here, patterns are scribbled on, yarn unravelled and ‘projects on the go’ dismantled by inquisitive fingers and minds. And so the differences unravel ….

Anyway enough of the justification, just trust me, life is different!

I arrived here Saturday night March 23, late winter … dark, cold and drab. Since then the sun has banished the gray & ‘Spring has sprung’ transforming the drab into lush velvety green. The countryside has exploded into a riot of colour; the warmer air is heavy with perfume (not good for the Hay Fever sufferers) and filled with musical birdsong. It is all so subtle yet so vibrant and brimming with life …. Magic stuff, a Northern Hemisphere Spring, I love it!

Yes Spring has sprung & the twins, Ashton & William, are thriving. They are now 10 weeks old and doing very well indeed. As indeed they should be, as they are still enjoying the 2am feed …. little rascals! Plenty of photos among my Face book albums. The big move has ‘happened’ with the family moving from Bassett into their own home at Holly Hill. Tis a beautiful home, perfect for raising 4 growing boys. Once again check out my FB albums for photos.

Tuesday this week was my birthday. I am now officially the Australian retirement age. Not too sure if that is a positive or a negative …. who really cares anyway! Mentally I am still 20 something. So, a little web searching found the perfect birthday pressie for a displaced, physically decrepit but mentally agile lady ..... which brings me to Devon.

The twins have arrived!!!Bristol, Sunday May 9
