well, honey, you better get about 3 more jobs then...lol lol I'm not surprised about this at all! Noone can live of minimum wage. That's why so many young people move back in with mommy and daddy once they've graduated from college! Sucks to be us, huh? furious

And my plans to rent a house have been diminished.

What a irony... I just got back from work, and the first thing I see is you guys comments. bigeyes The cost of living sucks. mad

KarenNerak Tuesday, March 20, 2012 3:59:41 AM

The cost of living is freakin' asinine. Especially considering the thousands of houses around the country that are just sitting there vacant. *shakes head* The priorities of this country are totally effed up. irked

KarenNerak Tuesday, March 20, 2012 4:02:19 AM

P.S.
I live in Oregon, and I think the color for my state should actually be like a dark purple or something. In the house prior to this one, we were paying $2200/mo. - absolutely ridiculous. For that price, you'd think it was some sort of palace or some shizz. Nope. Just a standard house. Then we moved to an apartment. The rent there was right around $1000/mo. - for a freakin' apartment?!?! Again - not a palace by any means.

Our current rent is $1200/mo. for a three bedroom house. Around here, that's a STEAL. Such a steal that we thought the place must be haunted or something. lol Thank God, it's not...we just got incredibly lucky!

I live in NY, on Eastern Long Island. I'm living in a basement room. With no window. No locks on the outside door. No room lock. My tools/ other stuff is scattered hither and yon. I pay $600/mo. rent, $90 for my cellphone/net access, and $140 for car insurance. I don't have enough money for anything. I'm chronically two weeks behind in my rent, my phone bill is always late. i'm bringing home $230/wk. -part time work.
cry I only hope that when my stress coronary comes it'll be massive.

sad You made Karen sad with that one. I understand, though. *huggles* coffee

I know...we should all gather together in some podunk town and create our very own commune! YES! It'd be bitchin'!

Peterpman45 Wednesday, March 21, 2012 3:33:31 PM

That is terrible. Never did I suspect that it was that bad.
Both of my brothers live in the dark blue zone (California and Hawaii) in houses they bought quite a while back.

Karen, I think that's an excellent idea! Someone just needs to come up with the land we can build on and then we can build stuff to provide us with our own energy and have a little farm producing our own food and so on. I'm in! bigsmile

Didn't mean to make you sad, Karen. Just stating facts.
Peter, it's bad on both coasts, the closer you get to the water, the more the land costs, then theres property taxes, home insurance, flood insurance, etc. If you bought a house a in the 80's pretty much anywhere, you'll make money on it - if you can find a buyer for it. Not true if you bought a house 10-12 years ago.
Commune style living... Ineresting idea. sherlock

I'm sure that with all the badass people here on MyO, we could have all the specialists we need to build a proper town! Plumbers, builders, doctors, geeks (gotta have Internet, after all), ...you name it! bigsmile

That's okay, Dennis. heart I understand totally. I just care about you a whole lot.

H82typ Wednesday, March 21, 2012 9:30:16 PM

I better think seriously about getting that second job... scared wink

H82typ Thursday, March 22, 2012 10:57:28 PM

Darknight, I worked a f/t & part time job for 7 years. Paid off a 15 year mortgage in 5. My ex got the house... And lost it for taxes. *smh*
I'll never make that kind of money again. sad
