My Reddit Preferences

I've been using reddit for about five years and have seen it evolve into something different, which I didn't mind too much because I was able to at least subscribe to different sub-reddits.
However, I view vanilla-Reddit about once-a-day to make sure I didn't miss any significant news but one day, I came across this submission.
I literally face-palmed when I saw that and the realisation of what Reddit has become struck me. I share this commenter's sentiment. To be honest, I've never seen myself as part of the Reddit community and I recall vanilla-Reddit full of interesting links and thoughtful comments that I can read through after viewing the interesting link. Unfortunately, I'm forced to login and stick with my subscriptions.
For fun, I created a new account to see what the default subscription is and I comment on why I kept or unsubscribed from the default list of sub-reddits:

announcements
Seems like a good idea to remain informed of site-related announcements.
No, I don't care about your relationships, your issues, or your life in general.
blog
Kept for same reason as announcements.
Occasional good jokes and funny photos are submitted here but I find the majority of submissions not funny and it makes my frontpage too noisy. No thanks.
It seems like it's full of whiny teenagers and I don't think I'm hard-core enough to appreciate this sub-reddit.
Occasional interesting submissions but for the most part, it's like AskReddit -- I just don't care enough to have my frontpage riddled with life-stories from other people.
Reddit's /b/. No thanks.
Whine, whine, whine. No thanks. Besides, I'm not American.
Take all of 4chan submissions, aggregate, and rank them -- this is what you get. No thanks.
TIL that I'm getting old... there are occasionally interesting submissions here but a lot of them are things that I either learned through life-experiences or in primary/secondary school. Also, this sub-reddit is turning into /r/politics with submissions such as this.
Occasionally some interesting videos but this is mostly /r/funny with videos!
worldnews
I'm subscribed to this sub-reddit to be aware of what's going on around the world.
The following are what I'm subscribed to outside of defaults:
business
Since I have some stake in the business world, I'd like to be aware of what's going on in business.
canada
Because I'm Canadian. Very political here but there is the occasional patriotic submission that makes this subscription worth it.
Christianity
Because I'm Christian. I believe that recently, the moderators have placed stricter enforcement here to weed out the trolls and thus, there are interesting discussions and submissions here.
linux
Because I primarily use Linux. Lots of TILs here that are indeed helpful and interesting Linux-related news.
mathNEWS
I don't know why I'm still subscribed. There's nothing there! Since it does nothing to my frontpage, it doesn't really hurt to leave it here.
modded
Strictly modded sub-reddit so the interesting submission stays.
PS3
Because I own a PS3. There are the whiny submissions but it's far less noisy than having /r/gaming subscribed and I can easily downvote/hide them. Ultimately, I'm subscribed to this sub-reddit for PS3-related news.
science
For interesting scientific news and breakthroughs.
TrueReddit
Same reason for subscribing to /r/modded.
uwaterloo
My alma mater!
Recently, I unsubscribed from the following:
I get my news related to the above from Hacker News. I have an account with ycombinator but have yet to really log into it! There's no need! Its frontpage is always full of interesting programming/technology submissions!
Also, I should mention that I disable custom styles and thumbnails. I just want content, not pretty colours and pictures.
