java, plug-ins, release

One of the cool new things coming in
Opera 10.6 for Mac (
Alpha 1 now available) is the switch to the all new out-of-process Java plug-in (javaplugin2). An out-of-process plug-in of course means a crash free Java environment! Yej! (At least an environment that does not crash your browser when Java runs into a little trouble.)
What this means is that you have to install
Java for Mac OS 10.5 Update 7 or
Java for Mac OS 10.6 Update 2 (both available through Software Update) in order to use Java with Opera. Java on OS 10.4 and in non-updated versions of Mac OS is
no longer supported.Read more...

evenes, release
Opera Software today
released Opera 10.52 Beta 2 for Mac. —and we’re aiming to get to Final release in a very short time! But that is no excuse not to
download and test as it is almost done.
It is looking really good and we are very exited about the great progress we have had for this release. We have a gorgeous new interface. It is just great. And with the all new Carakan script engine: we’re the fastest browser on the planet. It is just amazing. We think you are going to love it. Steve Jobs
Okay, so the above may not have been a real Steve-quote. But it is definitely what the Mac team is feeling about this release! I will let a big screenshot (click for full-size) do the rest of the talking:
