Macosx opera folders!
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 12:00:00 PM

I've already shared with you some opera folders that I use on my mac to manage my Opera-related stuff. Unfortunately those folders have a lot of imperfections, so I decided to improve them. This time I've changed their design leaving the mac-light-blue color for an opera-hot-red.
I'm very proud of what I've done, and I want to share my work with all the opera and mac users out there. Here you can find them. Enjoy!

New skin!
Tuesday, July 19, 2011 3:14:56 PM
Finally I had the time to make a new skin in these days!
It's the native mac skin for opera 11.5 with a better native-looking panels bar. Also I've changed the static "link_busy" icon with an animated one. Enjoy!

Opera going Featherweight!
Monday, June 27, 2011 11:26:07 AM

Opera Swordfish is coming out with a brand-new skin! I'm very excited for the new UI since it reflects my tastes and I consider it as a huge improvement over the past skin.
When Firefox4 came out it had a new skin, but I felt that it looked like a complete different browser (tabs on top for example). On the contrary our designers were capable of giving a fresh new look to Opera maintaining, at the same time, the browser identity! The new skin has also some genial solutions like the "page curl" effect for tabs that needs attention.
Now, after the praise I'd like to share with you some thoughts. I've played a lot with the skin in these days and I'm missing two things from the previous skin:
2) an icon for showing the different states of the synchronizing process of Link (the old icon had a little animation with spinning arrows when Link was busy). In particular I'd like to see when Link is working and when is in stand-by, so I can quit Opera when the synchronization is finished, avoiding the annoying ( yet necessary) window that tells you that Link is busy.
In addition, I think that the icons in the mail panel feel out of place with the new monochromatic style, in particular on Mac. However, this "oversight" gives me the opportunity to realize a new skin, 'cause if these icons were different, I would not have had more reasons to create new skins for Opera!
I've already shared some opinions with Helmers on Twitter ( I think he's starting to hate me
) and I'd like to hear your opinions!Remember:
1) the skin is in its first phase
2) If you don't like Featherweight I won't talk to you anymore!
Just finished to write my Thesis, now I need to clean up my desktop!
Wednesday, March 23, 2011 1:09:47 PM
Today, March the 23rd, 2011 I put the latest full stop in my Thesis. I'm going to discuss it by the end of April, so there's plenty of time for modifying some things...
Now that I've finished I really need to clean my desktop! Look at these pictures and you'll have an idea of the conditions in which I worked in the past months...

Quick and dirty opera mockup
Saturday, February 5, 2011 10:41:27 AM
Here's a mockup that I made in my spare time. I'm sorry for the bad quality, but I did it in few minutes. Basically it shows how Opera should improve its appearance in order to fit better into osx.
In my opinion tabs should be moved up like in Opera for Windows: the actual configuration leaves too much empty space. In particular, because of this waste I don't use the new bookmarks bar on my 13 inch macbook.
In order to make the panels look better, Opera should handle them like iTunes does. Also they should have a light blue background and better icons (here you can see the mail panel with icons taken from Apple Mail). For what concerns the icons in the panels, I think that they looked great in the original Opera 10 skin, but now they need to be changed.

Refined mac skin for Opera 11.01
Saturday, January 29, 2011 11:30:10 AM
Few weeks ago I made a refined version of Opera 11 mac skin, however with the recent release of Opera 11.01 my skin became (luckily) useless. Infact almost all the things I put there now are in the latest version of the default skin.
So i decided to find something else that needs to be "refined"
That's what i did:
- new tab_history icon
- Rounded mac button in the address badge callout
- removed the white background in the panel-toggle-closed icon
-changed the color of the speed-dial badge in the addressbar. Since I consider it like an internal page, now it uses the same color of the "Local badge" instead of using the "empty badge" color.
Give it a try here
