Keep Politics Out Of It!

The recent horrific earthquake in Haiti has people scrambling from all over the world to get aid there and assist the impoverished, suffering people of the country. I applaud the efforts of all who are assisting -- regardless of their political ideology or the amount of contribution they are making.

Sometimes I watch Bill O'Reilly's program on Fox News before retiring for the evening, because I find the subjects discussed often very thought-provoking (and I'm not as left-wing as I used to be in my younger days). Apparently there are several conservatives who are criticizing President Obama's handling of the crisis -- either in how quickly he's responding vs. his performance in regard to the "underwear bomber" incident or in the sizable amount of aid he's committed us to. I find that very distasteful; the thought of advancing one's political agenda at the expense of a multitude of people who are suffering is, at best, despicable.

There is plenty about Obama's presidency that is worthy of criticism (as with any administration)without having to drum up something else that impedes making the rapid progress in Haiti that the people so desperately need. Let's work together - there's plenty of time to argue later. We do contribute a lot because we can -- we have the resources. Am I "my brother's keeper?" You bet.
