Happy Groundhog Day!

The above photos weren't taken today. There's a field fairly close to my home that's a first rate groundhog habitat. Or at least it used to be. It was purchased by my town, and it's going to be turned into an athletic field. I'll be a bit sad to see it developed. We often walked our dog around this field, and I've often seen people playing with their dogs here.
But getting back to the weather forcast. The tradition is that if a groundhog can see his shadow at daybreak on February 2nd, there will be six more weeks of winter. Otherwise there will be an early spring. So this is how it turned out. The most famous groundhog in the nation, Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania, did in fact see his shadow this morning, so six more weeks of snow for them. However our state's local representative of the groundhog species, Buckeye Chuck, did not see his shadow, so in Ohio (one state west of Phil's state) we expect to have an early spring. Yay!
The truth of the matter is we haven't had much of a winter. There has only been a bit of snow and ice. I ran out and took a few photos before it all melted. Here's what our brief, little winter looked like:
And this was how warm it was yesterday.
Spring is in the air!
