Dehiscence

Learning Journeys

What Does One Live For?

I am on a sabbatical since last june and have spent most of the year learning, enjoying and most importantly thinking. Thinking about how I would like to lead my life.

Here is a gist of what I have thought about.

Every ten or twelve months take up something new to learn.
Till now I have learnt swimming, the guitar, French. And now I am thinking about photography.

Discover my country.
Trek, backpack, travel and breathe in the life and the sights and sounds of India.

Make a library.
Buy one book from each salary and collect vibrant books from as many topics as possible.

Maintain equilibrium.
Give time for professional, personal and social life. One should not develop at the cost of the other. Because in the long term, short term profits become losses.

Smile.
Spread this contagious disease everyday.

Every day would be a dehiscence.

Books that have touched meI Wish you ...

My thoughts on your thoughts:

Every ten or twelve months take up something new to learn. Of the five I like this the best. I agree with your time frame. Otherwise it would be too tempting to know just a little about many things. It is better to know much about fewer things.

Discover my country. This would be difficult or impossible for most people to do. Knowing about your country through other ways is a poor substitute, but necessary.

Make a library. Not just for the sake of collecting books. I do not agree that books should be purchased on such a regular basis. Buy the book, absorb it, and then buy another when you can.

Maintain equilibrium. I am confused. What is the difference between my personal life and my private life? Please explain "in the long term, short term profits, become losses"

Good luck and good health to you. S

I wanted to write social life and not private life, sorry for the error. And thanks for the correction!

By 'short term profits', I refer to actions done such that they give only immediate gratification . For eg., if I have a job that pays me a bomb and also takes up most of my time.
I would be earning a lot now, but would I be able to give time for myself? In the short term I might make a lot of money.

But for what am I earning? Do I have time to enjoy it? Do I have the time to broaden my perspective? Can I live each and every moment?

The same argument holds for the remaining two.

The tripod of Professional, Personal and Social Life must have equal legs, else one will tend to slip when one sits on it.
