Kids 'Lime'

Originally I planned to take them out for Ice-Cream with some of my older counterparts acting as, urrrrrrr… “Responsible Adults”
I brought it up with Kim & she said due to the number of them, they may be still hard to control & it would be better to have a little ‘lime’ by a friend’s house where we’d have our eyes on them. I took her advice I we got a friends house to use. I spoke to the adults about the time it would be held & overhead cost for the event etc. – while I entrusted Kim to speak with the parents of the younger ones. (she was a HUGE help
The day came & yes, I was a bit nervous as to the outcome of it. However as the time rolled by from 7:00pm to 8:30pm most of the guest were there. (we told them come for 7:00, so 8:30 is not bad at all, as Trinis are notorious for coming late to gatherings like these
We played board games, ate ice-cream, ordered Pizza… I was so great!
I watched them laugh, talk, & stuff their little faces until 11:00pm
Sadly we had to wrap things up then. They could have gone on until 1:00am I’m sure but I had their parents to think about if I did not bring them home at a reasonable hour.
We started a bit late – Pizza came later (about 9:40) & I worried that they would not have enough time to enjoy themselves before they had to leave. However they managed to get a lot done during the hours & everyone left satisfied.
You know, it’s the first time I’ve done something like this. What got into me I have no idea. Don’t know why I haven’t before... maybe I just never cared? Or never thought of myself as a planner & the age ‘required’ to take on that responsibility? ………but I do remember when I was younger my older friends thought of me. I never felt ‘left out’. I think it’s just time to return the favour.
Maybe they will remember these days & this tradition... pass it on to another generation.
