busy beaver's show off :jester:

Been beavering away on a graphic design/illustration project. Hence the neglect to the world of MYOPERA. Not just that, falling behind in all else...

Salvation is just round the bend though (doesn't sound quite right!), although certainly not in the isle of dogs where i've been sort of residing....

Said salvation takes the form of a trip to Clermont-Ferrand for a festival where one of my old videos is doing the rounds: Videoformes festival of digital art & new media

Always wanted to drive to Italy so am testing the water and going in my old Fiat :eyes: which should be fun. My partner-in-crime and daughter probably won't be overly impressed with the 10 hour+ drive BUT why fly when you can bumble along in virtual antique and take in the sights?!!?

Anyway - will take my little panasonic camera and catch some highlights or maybe lowlights. We'll see....

SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE

Recommended film of the month

Saw Chinjeolhan Geumjassi last week and it had just the right combination of: spirit; black comedy; polemic; beauty; horror and the surreal.

Beautiful chameleon 'Guem Ja' (Lee Young Ae) seeks ultimate revenge after serving many years for a horrific crime she took the rap for - not quite in the most expected way either.

Spectacular cinematography by Jeong-hun Jeong capturing both bleak winter landscapes and eerie urban environtments brilliantly. Tight script, with quasi-christain ethics tackled well, nice use of back-story and engaging relationships. Great moral tale and very funny in places. Slick direction with fantastic touches of the bizaare. IE when performing a prayer ritual to red candle light and icons of murdered child and herself, our heroine is zapped off in surreal style to a clifftop where she tows a chimera of a dog. The hopeless beast has the head of the man whom Guem Ja now hunts and is imprisoned in a sled therefore helpless to the horrific form of justice it is about to undergo.

Nice use of comedy and archetypes in the slightly disturbing ending too.

Grim, funny, beautiful and rewarding. 8/10

FOUL SHOT - CHENEY'S ON THE WILD TURKEY AGAIN!

Couldn't resist having a bit of photocollage fun with this one: :D

Call me a cad but i still wouldn't hang out with an ageing republican armed with a double barrel shotgun. Maybe I didn't go to the right kind of school - you have to be 'educated' for that kind of thing!

How difficult is it anyway to shoot a frightened bird with a bloody great gun that sprays hundreds of tiny metal balls in a .75m diameter circle at 35m - with (up to) 80% percentage of shot?

They must be pretty tough those guys. Phew!

NOT NUTS ENOUGH

Few days of being unable to get OPERA to work with my community page. Now using Firefox which works just fine. Anybody got a problem with this (ie from Opera Corp) - then tell me how the £**$ to get it working. I've tried all the settings in preferences etc.

Nothing particularly interesting to report except my :star:2yr old daughter:star: has become addicted to animated cartoons. She wakes me at four in the morning now, remote in one hand and a DVD in the other, gesticulating in the direction of the living room. Starting to wonder if the producers put something in them, bit like MSG in food.

Also see that yet another hollywoodish film is looking at the old mental health chestnut.

'Proof' : http://www.miramax.com/proof/ :yuck:stars Lady Gwyneth Paltrow, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Knave Jake Gyllenhaal and apparently "explores the links between genius and madness". Let's face it, if you want to really do this, head off to your local nut house and visit one of the thousands of people who are locked away or live in the community as undiscovered geniuses, spend most their lives living without hardly any cash, in isolation and obscurity and recieve little more than an excess of their fair share of predjudice.

This couldn't be much further removed from the world of hollywood ivory towers et al. I suppose it is good that they do this and i for one should see these films. BUT, i'd rather rewatch one flew over cuckoos nest which has more real people and not super human androids pretending to be real people. Therefore will wait for the DVD. Get the feeling it won't be too long.

Having said that, i excuse Jake G. because Donny Darko is a GOOD film that as far as i'm concerned says more about mental illness than 'Proof' appears to.

As they say.. the proof is in the pudding so let me know otherwise if you've seen this film and were stunned by the authenticity of it..

THE NUTS

, , , ...

So what's it all about then?

S'pose i'm not supposed to say that because of a shistenhosen film out last year with Jude Law based on a good film about a Londoner.

Well i say it because it's one of those sayings i grew up with. Here in lundon taan.Just down the road in the Elephant.

In fact, now living just down the road from where Sir (!) Mickey Caine grew up, maybe i'm allowed to say that now. PLEASE LET ME GO NOW MICK I WOZ JUST 'AVING A LARF INNIT!

Anyway nuff of that.. this blog is about.. will be.. about:

NUTS, NUTTERS, FRUITCAKES, LOONEYS, LOONS, COOKOOS, MENTALISTS AND ALL THOSE AKA AS THE INSANE

Call me biased, but as a certified loon myself - i would like to take this opportunity to vent my spleen about a few things and hopefully shed some light on an issue that seems a bit of a political minefield of assorted treats... all from a personal perspective so as not to offend anyone of course.

Don't want to upset too many fanatic hardcore fundaMENTALISTS. I like my embassy the way it is thank you.

So if you're up for a wacky ride then keep an eye on this space and hopefully i won't dissapoint you you savvy sassy fusspots!
