Opera 10.60

Opera 10.60 was launched earlier today. The news is Geolocation, improved support for advanced Web standards such as HTML5 and WebM video, search suggestions and it's of course faster than ever!

The dark speed dial boxes has been replaced with white clean boxes in wide screen format and a default background image has been added. Some nice transitions has been added to switching / dragging tabs, tabs preview, and visual tabs.

On the website, we've updated the campaign graphic but continue with the "small, fast and beautiful" hummingbird theme. We've also made an update to our download button. We decided to go in the direction of a darker and more Opera branded download button, in line with the design of the opera.com top navigation. This way we'll more clearly state that you're about to download an Opera product, than with the previous version.

Regarding the button, is this the way to go? Should download buttons use green or blue color by default, or should it reflect the brand?

Download Opera 10.60, or read more about it here. To test geolocation visit our Live Map and check out if anyone else is using Opera 10.60 in your area : )

Enjoy!

The dark button looks great, and it's purpose is still obvious wink I love how you guys brand Opera.

i think this is the best combination of colors and buttons you have ever made! I really like the new green wallpaper...perfect for summertime and at the same time it express continuity with the old product!
This time you score 100/100 according to my tastes!

The only thing I dislike about 10.60 is the non-native look for contextmenus on Windows 7 (like with the red menu button) and that Opera still doesn't use Vista's/7's default explorer view for saving files. Hopefully, I will see those two things in an upcoming release.

Besides those two points, I am more than happy with 10.60. It is the best release ever so far. Keep it up!

Ditto. Undoubtedly the nicest the homepage's ever looked.

The dark button is more stylish and good looking!

Did you actually look at those screenshots? These idiots with their space-wasting bars, candy-colored buttons and RUINOUS XP theme are not taking things seriously. I hope to hell that Firefox/4.0 does not actually look like this. Well, it also appears that Firefox twinks won't be able to use their fursonas in the new skinning system. The Lord giveth, and he taketh away...at least in Firefox land.

Oh, the new styling on Opera's pages turned out quite well. However your actual documentation and press material could stand a more rigorous update cycle.

Completely off-topic, but so so painfully true.

A +1 for beautifully written descriptions when we click that "?" in opera:config entries?

the whole red download button will be appropriate.
The whole green banner is representing the current trend of GO GREEN ! theme instead.

This new one is fine. It's Cool! up
I like it.

To elaborate ... probably neither Green nor Blue should automatically be the default of Download Buttons. Why? For example ... we're no doubt all too familiar how when we go to download some App from be it FileHippo, SnapFiles or from wherever ... a lot of times some huge Green or Blue Download Button will appear. The temptation will be to automatically click on that. But, upon closer inspection, it'll turn out to be a Download Button for some other App, conceivably even a Rogue App.

So, with an Opera-branded Download Button, how can one miss? http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Happy.gif - Besides, by breaking away from Green and Blue Download Buttons, you'd be leading, trailblazing, breaking away from the pack instead of following the norm. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Cool2.gif - You wouldn't be hanging with the A-Crowd. You'd BE the A-Crowd! norris http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Dance2.gif -

About the somewhat new opera.com navigation, I do like the look, but I twice had trouble finding the Support section. The tiny "?" icon is not clear enough, and does not look like a main section of the site compared to the rest.

When I look for support, I glance the page for "Help" or "Support" text, now it's very hard to find imo.

Isn't the question mark, links in the footer and Support in the Help drop down in the browser enough? If we add support to the top navigation, I'm afraid it will get too crowded : )

Opera 10.10 colors looked better, even without Aero. And FF4 theme currently looks a lot better in Windows... and every other desktop environment too.

Opera 10.5/6 looks WAY better than 10.1x and FF4.

Cutting Spoonhellspork Wednesday, July 7, 2010 6:16:04 PM

In 10.60, it's not so much that it looks better when sitting still; it's what happens when you start interacting with it. (hovering, dragging etc)

FF4 looks more like a toy than Chrome. Just waiting for Joe Camel to make his appearance.

The Question Mark too subtle. Support was in the navigation bar before and it wasn't too crowded.

But, I can only tell you about my personal experience and usage pattern. When I browse to electronic or software suppliers websites, there's always an obvious "Support" section in the top/main navigation.
