Hi all. Good to be back from vacation and being able to offer you guys a new weekly build. (No static UNIX builds for now, sorry).

  • Fixed issue with replacing personal search engines on startup
  • Support for downloading search engine icons on first start and upgrade
  • Fixed a fair number of cosmetic issues in speed dial
  • Added a limit on how many page thumbnails can be in memory, should result in lower memory usage over time
  • Added thumbnail tooltip to the windows panel list
  • Enabled plugins in feeds again
  • Fixed a heap of prominent and non-prominent crashers
  • Most translations should now be up to date, please test!

UNIX
  • Fixed deadkeys on GMail (finally!)
  • Fixed spellchecker on FreeBSD (look for the right libaspell...)
  • Improved protection against running two instances of Opera using the same settings directory

mac
  • Opera now supports the AppleAntiAliasingThreshold property which allows you to turn off antialiasing (font smoothing) separately from the system setting; a bug in not respecting the system setting has also been fixed

Known issue:
  • Rightclicking causes crashes in various contexts.

Special thanks to Mitchman for adding that code for that feature!

Yay! I'm glat to not have a price shopping search bar all the time.

What are "deadkeys" in Gmail? Is that the bug where Gmail would lock up?

Tim AltmanJunyor Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:34:17 PM

Don't forget that you can discuss this release in #weekly on irc://irc.opera.com.

Zaferarzafen Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:35:30 PM

Thanks for the new weekly.

what does "Added thumbnail tooltip to the windows panel list"
mean?

berend ytsmaytsmabeer Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:42:18 PM

Press F4 and choose the Window panel

Josh Leejleedev Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:48:13 PM

Thanks! This build has no crashers at all. bigsmile

Tommy A. Olsentoman Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:49:03 PM

@arzafen: You can turn on the windows panel from the panel tab in the Appearance dialog.

ColKilkenny Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:51:15 PM

Already mentioned this at #weekly.
MSI installer has encoding problems with finnish language.
Letters ä and ö (and perhaps å) look something like "ä" or something like that.
Anyway, it's like those UTF-problems you see at web sometimes.

MathiasMathiasfr Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:54:13 PM

Thanks a lot !

Martinmax17 Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:55:59 PM

Martin Hložekmata_h Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:01:53 PM

There is 9.20 BETA in opera:about. Does it mean, that 9.20 final will be released soon? ;-)

joshas Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:02:19 PM

Thank you very much.

Martin Suelzlemarsu Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:06:37 PM

Did you changed something on xml-parsing?
I can't reproduce my old xml-parsing problem so far.

I'm happy smile Thanks

(hmmm, the thumbnail changed ...)

andersonshatch Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:08:16 PM

When I goto manage a feed, right clicking on the feeds address crashes this build for me (on Vista Ultimate)

Josh

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:08:20 PM

@mata_h
Very observant! Good question as well.

tharos81 Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:11:11 PM

I don't have any thumbnail tooltips on windows vista...

olli Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:12:45 PM

andersonshatch: Confirmed did u file a bug report?

[edit]Never mind found one [Edit]

olli Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:19:08 PM

tharos81: Works here :-)

tharos81 Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:22:44 PM

hm, strange... after restarting opera it works. weird

OperaBuddy Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:29:12 PM

Opera crashes when right clicking mouse to paste text in the mail/ signature field. Tried both upgrade then clean install...crashes every time. (Windows XP Pro)

...actually right clicking in any text input field will crash it.

sacharja Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:34:27 PM

There should be a note in the changelog, if the UI was changed. Because otherwise the user gets an error when he copies his old toolbar.ini or menu.ini "UserInit() failed => OK" (or something like). Happened here when the entry "Developer tools" was created.

Arthur WilkinsonGT500 Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:41:04 PM

I noticed an improvement in the Unix build that wasn't listed above the moment I launched it. The speed dial displays when Opera is launched with a blank page.

Many thanks for the build olli (and the rest of the team as well). You guys do good work. wink

Zarko Hristovskizarkoh Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:48:09 PM

Haven't upgraded my hardware or connection, but 8758 is supersonic compared to the previous - 8746. up

GrahamGort Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:53:27 PM

Can't seem to edit Feeds. Go to Manage Feeds, select a feed, then press the the edit button: nothing happens.

Using the Linux .6 shared Opera on a Xubuntu Dapper machine.

Bug reported: bug-257391

spiffytech Thursday, March 22, 2007 7:56:58 PM

Hey! Ctrl-Z doesn't undo a tab close anymore. Now it's Ctrl-Alt-Z. Please change it back.

Crash also confirmed in Linux build 615 (bug#257390). You can add information about the crash (including a Inspector crash log) by sending an e-mail to bug-257390 bugs.opera.com wink

Hermenhermen2048 Thursday, March 22, 2007 8:17:20 PM

OperaBuddy,GT500: right-click in input field bug confirmed on Windows XP.

AndreyDp0H Thursday, March 22, 2007 8:18:22 PM

Guys, how about google services? Too many rendering bugs to work normally (e.g. docs) sad
That would be a humanity crime to release the browser which can't work with google services smile

mattie Thursday, March 22, 2007 8:19:30 PM

"Added thumbnail tooltip to the windows panel list" : Yay! smile

Michal Zimmermannzimmicz Thursday, March 22, 2007 8:22:38 PM

Wow, Speed Dial looks really good contrary to the previous build. But the thumbnail of Gmail is still pretty useless. Still see just "Loading" in the left top corner.

But anyway, good job.

Serpher Thursday, March 22, 2007 8:30:31 PM

Wow! The new Opera works better than previous. And this new polish translation... great! smile
"Fixed issue with replacing personal search engines on startup"
Finaly! I'm getted nervous when I had must seen those search engines which I hadn't choosed.
Keep it up!
Greetings

/Sorry for my bad English :/

Report the rendering bugs, and maybe they'll be fixed in browser.js (it's also possible that they are already trying to determine the problems, and add fixes to browser.js). wink

grogge Thursday, March 22, 2007 8:56:00 PM

irc.opera.com is down... sad

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Thursday, March 22, 2007 9:00:08 PM

@grogge
I've been logged in to the irc chat solid since 2:30 or so. Still there.

grogge Thursday, March 22, 2007 9:02:13 PM

Hm, I can't login. I'm using this built's irc client. And I'm behind a NAT router... maybe that's the problem (allow incoming connections is disabled tho)? Opera's unblocked in the XP firewall.

After creating an account in Opera, I see "Fetching room list..." for a long time and then "0 rooms" in the Chat rooms window. sad

When I manually join the weekly channel I get this:

22:04 Joining chat room...
22:05 Disconnected from chat

And when I manually join the #weekly wink channel, I get:

22:06 Joining chat room...
USER Not enough parameters
Disconnected from chat

Do I have to register first?

EDIT: it seems so... when I add garbage to "real name", "email address" and organisation" I get the message:
"You do not have registered"...

nevermind then.

Ryan McCabermccabe916 Thursday, March 22, 2007 9:03:56 PM

Suggestion for Speed Dial:

How about having the thumbnails increase in size when you mouse over them so that you can see more detail in the page. It's kind of difficult to decifer the information/text in each right now. smile

(Sorry if this has already been suggested before.)

Pinnassog Thursday, March 22, 2007 9:05:52 PM

The Windows MSI installer seems to have international character problems. All ü ä ö " of the German text are displayed weird. It looks like when I had simple characters on my UTF-8 webpage.

groingo Thursday, March 22, 2007 9:15:39 PM

Good to have you back, took a peek at your vacation pictures...amazing stuff, looks a lot like Mayan ruins in South America the way the trees grow out and over the buildings!

outofspace Thursday, March 22, 2007 10:19:42 PM

Opera crash when writing a letter in M2 and using right mouse button.

Windows Vista Ultimate
