Opera Desktop Team

Approaching 9.2

Desktop Team. :-)

  • Добавлен автоматический поиск из адресной строки при вводе более одного слова;
  • Оформление Speed Dial оптимизировано по скорости;
  • В запросах BitTorrent появилась поддержка необязательного «ключа», это означает, что больше торрентов будут работать;
  • Исправлены проблемы с прозрачными областями в некоторых виджетах под UNIX;

Now in English…

Hello to all our users! Today it's my turn to announce the weekly build, so why don't I post in Russian? Thanks to the Russian users for your support. Now you have an insider in Desktop Team! :-)

The most important is that we've fixed some issues with Flash 9 on Linux. This means that you can now watch YouTube video fullscreen! (And close annyoing Flash ads.)

Other changes
  • Added support for automatic search from address bar when entering more than one word;
  • Some speed optimizations in the Speed Dial skin;
  • Added support for the optional “key” in BitTorrent requests, should make more torrent downloads work;
  • Fixed issue with transparent areas in some widgets on UNIX;
  • we have now ppc-linux .6 packages: that means that they work (okay, should work) on your PS3! — if you installed Linux on it.

Yeah, they went missing in the beta as well, unfortunately - due to some issues we had in the build system. But things are fixed now - and you'll most certainly get sparc-solaris in the final. Until then, please be patient :smile:

dogans 30. March 2007, 16:26

In sovjet russia, opera loves you!

LNX-FX 30. March 2007, 16:47

I can't watch YouTube videos on Linux. I can only see "Loading..." even if video is fully loaded. I have Flash 9.0.31 installed.

(process:16706): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2242: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

Claudio Santambrogio 30. March 2007, 16:49

LNX-FX,

those messages are printed by the Flash Player. Do you have a problem with *all* movies, or just with some? Could you please post a link to one that fails to play?

Charles 30. March 2007, 16:51

Opera is red, like the former USSR! :smile:
Spacibo.

"Added support for automatic search from address bar when entering more than one word"

Finally!

I have been tired seeing error messages like

"Error! Invalid URL
The URL http://one plus one is not two contains characters that are not valid in the location they are found."

when I forget to place "g " in front of them.

FataL 30. March 2007, 17:01

:up:
Good typography in this post by Alexey! :up:

Charles 30. March 2007, 17:02

Fixed issue with transparent areas in some widgets on UNIX;

It doesn't seem to have been fixed:

Added support for automatic search from address bar when entering more than one word;

can disable this in opera:config?

FataL 30. March 2007, 17:07

can disable this in opera:config?

Any reason why?

Andres 30. March 2007, 17:09

Not much for Windows or Mac users...but a good Changelog

Johan Borg 30. March 2007, 17:11

@alexs: No, but you can enable it for single words too, if you set these preferences:

opera:config#Network|EnableHostNameWebLookup
opera:config#Network|HostNameWebLookupAddress

The second one should contain a string compatible with the search URLs used in search.ini and available in the search preferences.

kloned 30. March 2007, 17:13

gilb 30. March 2007, 17:16

Merci!!

Andrew 30. March 2007, 17:17

>Спасибо пользователям из России за поддержку!

России, России... Тут и из Беларуси народ есть! Я, например! :wink:

Translate:

>Thanks to the Russian users for your support!

From Russia, from Russia... A lot of users from Belarus are there! I am!

Thanks for fixing bug of value of page zoom!!!

Kyle Baker 30. March 2007, 17:17

Fantastic! Flash on Linux is one thing that had been making my Opera experience on Linux bad for a long time. No more..or not as much! Thanks.

*Added support for automatic search from address bar when entering more than one word;
*Some speed optimizations in the Speed Dial skin;
*Added support for the optional “key” in BitTorrent requests, should make more torrent downloads work;
*Fixed issue with transparent areas in some widgets on UNIX;

Those are some of the best items in the changelog that I've seen in a really long time! Builtin torrent support was in desperate need of work. :D The transparent areas fix for UNIX will also make widgets *standable* again on my machine. That was driving me crazy, lol. And lastly (well thanks for speeding up speed dial a bit), but lastly...the automatic search change is great! I got so tired of forgetting to throw in the "keyword"..then losing all of the search phrase I had just typed. Very much needed, thanks!

LNX-FX 30. March 2007, 17:18

I tried random videos. No video worked. Only "Loading..." appeared.

FataL 30. March 2007, 17:20

The only search feature that I would want to see in Opera is Quick Search Suggest for search engines that support it (Google, Yahoo!, Ask): just like in Firefox, or like in one of test builds of Opera 8 (or it was 7 -- I don't remember) :wink:

Vladimir 30. March 2007, 17:21

testin' in progress, bugs aware =)))

Azamadt Smaguloff 30. March 2007, 17:41

Man, i love automatic search in address bar... Good bye, lng-hacks!

FataL 30. March 2007, 17:54

Related to search.
Seems that I can't assign keyboard shortcut for Hotclick Search.
Some research:
  • it worked fine in Opera 8
  • it stopped showing assigned shortcut in context menu in Opera 9 TP1, but shortcut itself worked
  • it stopped working at all somewhere between builds
    8432 (beta) and 8501 (release)
f ctrl alt

Hotclick search, 1
Is it known?
I found related thread in forums, but there was no complains about not working shortcuts.

Vygantas 30. March 2007, 18:05

Why so poor graphics? Thought we already went away from win 95 looking software installs...

Joey Wagh 30. March 2007, 18:05

My google calendar section on my google homepage (google.com/ig) is not loading in this build.

Rune Kenneth Meisingset 30. March 2007, 18:13

@tsarhan: You can already do this by using the links panel.

xcv 30. March 2007, 18:16

NO WAI!

where do I sent money???????

FataL 30. March 2007, 18:19

You can already do this by using the links panel.

But it is not so useful because it's a hidden feature and not so interactive...
So, yes, it would be great! Please post it in Wishlist Forum.

Wojtek Kowaluk 30. March 2007, 18:28

Finally some love for Unix version. :smile:

But Flash still goes blank here on Linux. :frown:
I cant see any transparency fixes either.

Mark Gillespie 30. March 2007, 18:31

Fantastic, just installed this weeks build on my PS3, and it works great...

PS3 is a awesome platform for Opera. It's a shame you have to boot Linux to get Opera, I really wish Sony would ditch the below-par NetFront browser, and simply licence Opera to run on PS3....

Sander Evers 30. March 2007, 18:39

Who needs a PS3? Get a Wii + Opera, then you don't need Linux. :wink:

Anyway: Great new build

Aux 30. March 2007, 18:41

Phoenix 30. March 2007, 18:44

good job done :smile:

cRoMo 30. March 2007, 18:46

Ctrl-[1,9] shortcuts keep opening different sidebars here and not the sites I set up for speed dialing :|
