Current work

Hi guys
We are currently working on Kestrel. There will be some cool new features, but also a lot of bug fixing. We won't have a weekly here for a little while, but when we have something to present you guys will be the first to know ;-)

Or you'll have to wait until they include it.. or API *nudge, nudge* *wink, wink*

Not to be too bothersome, but does a while mean 2 weeks? months? Just trying to figure out when I can breathe again.

Thanks for the update. I appreciate it.

undo-window-close feature

Opera have this feature - Ctrl Alt Z - or you mean somthing else?

LucasDTlucasdt Friday, April 20, 2007 3:23:48 PM

Great... can you give us an advance about the new features...?

Rafał MiłeckiZajec Friday, April 20, 2007 3:24:57 PM

Uh, why? :-| We are absolutly ready for non-stable, crashing, dangerous, PC-burning version :-)

Alnag Friday, April 20, 2007 3:25:19 PM

Any idea when approximately we can expect a weekly? I mean it is question of few weeks or rather months?!?

Dserldserl Friday, April 20, 2007 3:26:28 PM

9.50?
We are ready and waiting...

EricJH Friday, April 20, 2007 3:28:11 PM

Ready and waiting. I can live with a non-stable, crashing, dangerous, PC-burning version :-)

Cyro Friday, April 20, 2007 3:34:14 PM

how long do you guys think it will be released?
Let's make a poll. I say 2 months until a new weekly is released.

PS: WIR is not an option.

Piotrpietrek Friday, April 20, 2007 3:45:06 PM

Could someone tell me what is Kestrel?

FavDjiXas Friday, April 20, 2007 4:02:38 PM

New features? Any details? :-)

Also, when I read feeds, is there any way to check all existing blogs for news? Something like new emails in outlook send/receive.

Or I have to wait n minutes till it be checked automatically?

Alexeif1avalanche Friday, April 20, 2007 4:03:56 PM

Kestrel-Kestrel-Kestrel!.. Can you imagine? A BETTER OPERA!!!! 8-)
Waiting..

LucasDTlucasdt Friday, April 20, 2007 4:06:13 PM

A preview on the new features... would that be too much to ask...

Soul Of DoinelSoulOfDoinel Friday, April 20, 2007 4:16:56 PM

.....Wow.....
I'm happy to wait for "some cool new features", but I really hope to wait a little.....My dream: a midle-weekly build...

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Friday, April 20, 2007 4:28:18 PM

I too, will wait for Kestrel. But only 'cause you said it'd be Kestrel! smile

Could you tell me if Bug #255378 has been fixed in the latest build? I've heard of many other rendering fixes already... smile

ÁlmostigrisAlmostigriss Friday, April 20, 2007 4:33:01 PM

Waiting for ... bigsmile

olli Friday, April 20, 2007 4:34:17 PM

Fyrd: Yes that one is fixed :-)

paulgca Friday, April 20, 2007 4:38:06 PM

Kestrel meet ThunderBird

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbird_(mythology)
Depending on the people telling the story, the Thunderbird is either a singular entity or a species. In both cases, it is intelligent, powerful, and wrathful. All agree that one should go out of one's way to keep from getting thunderbirds angry.

Nothing in http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/759403 about M2 improvements.

Maybe M2 users will have to wait until Peregrine to avoid being swept up into the wings of ThunderBird wink

Any news on bug 259824 ?

Alexis DeveriaFyrd Friday, April 20, 2007 4:51:06 PM

@olli

Woohoo! Thanks! smile That one's a pretty big issue on my site, so I'll be glad to see it working.

Mika Takalamtakala Friday, April 20, 2007 5:48:05 PM

bug fixing is much appreciated. keep up the good work!

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Friday, April 20, 2007 5:52:05 PM

Kestrel...here we come! I can't wait. Hope to see something on here asap, since I too am in the habit of holding my breathe between builds. wink

Absolutely right!! bigsmile +1 from me on that!

How much that little while means?

... sad

I actually came from that wings... The DB is so buggy that really makes you hate it!!

M2 has a great performance, but it has stayed really behind on features :S

Anyway, great work with the browser guys wink!

- That's the only one function, that I'm missing in opera. It shouldn't be so hard to code and I think many people would appreciate it.

AndrewAndrewNi Friday, April 20, 2007 7:14:35 PM

Kestrel will be mostly bug fixes... so in theory Kestrel will have the most stability and rendering accuracy yet! smile

ACK! see this forum thread: better Confirm Exit / avoid window closing frustration

ThunderFire Friday, April 20, 2007 8:28:18 PM

I hope this is a real upgrade and not just a few more "cool" features like Speed dial, just to make it feel good and look fancy.

I wish the DevTeam sits down and *solves* browser problems, and *complete* already existing features like plugin detection, automatic plugin loadin/unloading, individual plugin control etc.

XP1 Friday, April 20, 2007 8:38:04 PM

I hope native spell checking is being worked on.

Andresandresruiz Friday, April 20, 2007 9:08:16 PM

Ok, I think we all understand you're working very hard for next builds, thanks a lot. I'll be waiting for new weekly and new bugs.

Pawelc1201298 Friday, April 20, 2007 9:51:22 PM

Big fixes smile

I really hope for some big improvements to M2 and a lot of the old bugs finally stamped out!

Seb smile

Kyle Bakerkyleabaker Saturday, April 21, 2007 12:47:25 AM

M2 definitely needs many improvements. I used to use it regularly, but I've deleted it since it causes cpu usage to go up so much in some cases. Anyone else ever notice Opera freezing when you open it while it is checking mail in the background? It freezes for me then once it retrieves the mail it runs fine again.

Ahui886 Saturday, April 21, 2007 12:55:04 AM

thanks
good news

Hernán Gabriel GonzalezCamus Saturday, April 21, 2007 1:23:39 AM

@kyleabaker

I see that freezing all the time, not when it checks mail, but when it checks my feeds... sad

Kc4 the Greatklingoncowboy4 Saturday, April 21, 2007 3:34:25 AM

No rush guys. I now have Opera Mini to play with. With Rogers I only have 5 Mb per month to play with but it is enough.

rseiler Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:00:17 AM

Guys, I'm going to be moving to Vista soon. How close is Opera to working as well there as it does in XP? Please don't tell me that I'll have to wait for Kestrel.

Roland JeffersonCall Me Yo Daddy Saturday, April 21, 2007 7:15:20 AM

Opera truly innovates! happy

Like everyone else here I can't wait for the next release! yes
