Post-Alpha Opera 9.5 Release
By Adam Minchintonminch. Friday, September 14, 2007 2:19:22 PM
Previously the term weekly has been used to describe our "weekly" releases. As most of you know they don't always appear at the end of every week, therfore we will be endeavouring to deliver a steady stream of builds as they are ready. So be prepared, the next release may come on a Tuesday or any other day of the week.
So what have we been doing?
We have been working hard on performance and fixing bugs, so go and grab the build and help us make Opera 9.5 even better!

That's the most silly sentence of all comments; congratulations.
Just keep using 9.23, and wait for 9.5 to be released, and stop saying non-sense while using a post-alpha realease
Junyor:
To sum up the bug with operapluginwrapper: the only way to fix it is to wait for Flash devs to fix this?
Daned4n3 # Saturday, September 15, 2007 1:02:38 AM
it does feels smoother when scrolling quickly through a page, but when i scroll by one single "click" of the mouse wheel, the page first jumps and then eases in to the new position and it's harder for me to follow the position of the text i'm reading.

Confirming this here, for example: http://www.guildwars.com/community/guildweek/gotw-2005-04-06-amazonbasin.php ... as I tried to save the image of the caped character in the article introduction.
Update: OK, I can reproduce the crasher once again on trying to save the image on that page, from another computer / install. Reported as bug 285006.

please bring back default
close other - ctrl-alt-shift w
close all - ctrl-alt-w
keyboard shortcuts.
I've personally re-installed them.
cached images
try this page with 9.23
http://majorgeeks.com/
notice that "hot", "pick" & "new" don't display in 9.23 with <cached images>
but do in 9.50
bookmarks
a) bookmarks not sorted properly.
b) focus is on <view> initially when doing a ctrl-shift-2
have to TAB x2 to get to <quick find>
links
a) focus is on <save>
have to TAB x4 to get to <quick find>
in 9.23 <quick find> is focussed
this bug was also present a long time ago.
9.5 doesn't remember previously opened directory
currently set to
"C:\Program Files\Opera 9.5 alpha"

I like the opera 9.5 scrolling better when it comes to scrolling entire pages etc. but i dislike it when scrolling by small steps, as it makes more of a jump than in 9.23

The 'x' buttons are really nice in notifications, I found them in the "find in page" ('.') too. ;-)
Thx for bringing back view bar.
Great progess, Kestrel r0x! Looking for some news in linux-flash.

I migrated my my user js folder from 9.23 to 9.5, but none of my scripts work. Any reason for this?
Aletta Mesalettames # Saturday, September 15, 2007 6:24:29 AM
It loads all but the mail program and then looks funky not loading
pages (or trying to) or speed dial images.
pLastic01 # Saturday, September 15, 2007 6:30:27 AM
And, please, when 'Reuse current tab' is unticked in prefs, let the 'Go to Web Address' browser menu item open the tab in the background.
Thanks

Gmail:
Bullet lists, and numbered lists work now.
Noticed that arrow keys don't work in drop-down lists in these alphas (such as gmail auto-complete addresses. Also in search menu here. Just type a few letters and arrow-down...no result gets highlighted).
Extra line spacing issue still exists when composing mail.
PicasaWeb:
Photos don't load after clicking on an album.
(I actually liked the page-loading spinner in the address bar in the last Mac alpha.)
Btw, any efforts to include "text-input area" resizing as in Safari3? Super useful! Is that in CSS3?

------------------
BUGS
* History problems: Although the value "0 addresses to remember", dropdown menu (address bar) still displays visited pages.
* Yahoo: WebMail (classic): Write mail toolbar is missing
* Blogger: Many problems (display & appearance) with some templates
* Transfers: Right click (e.g. for clearing completed transfers) is not working all the times
* Bookmarks: Some glitches with bookmark folders
--------------------
SUGGESTIONS
* An option to enable/disable systray icon
* An option to rename subtitles (Speed Dial Boxes)
* A textbox/small toolbar to quickly change and enable disable proxy addresses
* Remember last save path (tansfer save dialog) -not always MyDocs path
p.s. First try to solve bugs like high process/memory usage, right click problems etc. than adding features. IMHO it will be easier to maintain opera and then add new features in a bugs-free program. Now its difficult to report bugs for kerstel engine because opera -the whole program- is very buggy with low usability (e.g. wand doesn't work).

Such as in 9.23

But more seriously, my downloads seem to have stopped working! Two .EXE files I've downloaded read as 0 bytes in size.

And if I save a duplicate image, the Save As box doesn't confirm that I wan't to overwrite the original image.

just report a problem with saved page in .mht : the end lack
and your new shortcut (ctrl+b and ctrl+h) for bookmark and history are very good, but can you make a ctrl+e for the mail ? because I am switching every time between bookmark and mail, it is not easy to use the old and new shortcut

Apart from that, great release

But still Kestrel is impressive - it is now my main browser both in Windows XP and OS X. Also synchronization is good feature. I would also like to synchronize sessions. I use a lot of tabs and use them also as a to-do list.

I see that the place to fill in the passwords and stuf isn't reachable so ctrl+F11 makes it appear again.

The new Open/Save File dialogs which let you choose the program you want to handle a file with at this moment are great.
But PLEASE give an option in opera:config to go back to old behavior of middle click scrolling: To center the mouse on middle click in order to have the same scrolling dynamics upwards and downwards. I always appreciated Opera for NOT doing it the way IE or Firefox do it.
Undo of closed windows and saving of selected Windows as sessions is a good start, but i'd like to see more session management - like saving selected tabs in the window panel as a session or previewing sessions as a list of pages.
Closing multiple tabs in the windows panel still does'nt work (bug-282026).
POP3 download of Mails does'nt work. Opera just downloads 1-3 Mails at a time and then waits another 5 minutes for the next 1-3 Mails.

Press '/' to do a quick find. Hit the 'x' on the search window. Opera will crash.
Also, there seems no way to hide the systray icon.
And non-ratchet style mouse wheels still have 'jumping' issues while scrolling.

Double clicking on an empty page does not load
the "Home" page when speed-dial is not visible.

Using this build as main browser =)
But I just want to point out the regression with bug 260228 with b9500/b9523: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=184869
The download manager on www.sub-way.fr doesn't even show anymore even with browser.js disabled, whereas it still works with opera 9.23 and all builds before.
It would be nice of you to fix that as most of premiers of US TVshows are coming this month

Press / on keyboard, quickly click X on "Find text" pop-up, quickly press /, quickly click X and so on... Crash on second loop for me, occasionally on the third loop.
Win XP x64.
Can anyone confirm?
senyorito # Saturday, September 15, 2007 3:39:29 PM
Before, you can easily arrange and sort my bookmark's arrangement view. Now, even if I re-arrange it or by dragging a bookmark folder, it will still back when I relaunch Opera.
I don't know if this is only on me.
