work in progress

, ,

Even though we present experimental video-enabled builds, work procedes as usual on Kestrel - and we have a new build with lots of fixes (and ongoing work). WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all. Known issues:
  • GMail top menu bar broken
  • Wrong cursor on form buttons and labels
  • Plugins on UNIX might be even more broken - big changes coming up... (Do not bother filing plugin bugs on UNIX)
  • Still no sparc builds sad
  • [BUG 296670] Animated gif images get corrupted on Windows
  • [BUG 267632] Images don't display when printing
  • [BUG 213115] Queued mail is sent at the next check, instead of waiting for manual action
  • [BUG 295195] Web archives are broken if you ever have changed the default action of a file type in Preferences
Changelog:
  • Several stability and crash fixes
  • Scrolling with mouse wheel now works over Flash objects with onRollOver handler
  • Fixed linebreaking and white-space handling in designMode
  • Fixed long content makeing scrollbars disappear and disabling scrolling
  • Missing table cells have no more a green background
  • Fixed 1 pixel high Gmail compose window
  • Fixed crash when opening the Info panel
  • Fixed sorting of IRC channels
  • Fixed message priority not being displayed in Mail
  • Fixed wrong context menu shown for selected text that is a link
  • We are now splitting too long IMAP commands into smaller chunks
  • Fixed wrong port when creating NNTP or IMAP account with Gmail e-mail address
  • Fixed fetching of new POP3 mail once you empty trash
Windows specific:
  • Opera runs on Windows 95 again! (but there are still some bad issues, be patient)
UNIX specific:
  • Fixed broken expansion of "~"
  • Fixed flickering of notifications
  • Fixed crash when connecting to chat
A little note about some UNIX packages:
  • FreeBSD .5 is "the new .1" - it is a static build
  • FreeBSD .7 is a FreeBSD 7 build (available both for amd64 and x86)

"Plugins on UNIX might be even more broken - big changes coming up..."

Quite puzzled, but i love the second part of the sentence.
Im regularly facing crashes of opera because of plugins, but i'm so curious i'll get it anyway.
Thanks for this anyway. wink

Thank you for new build, but http://www.germanwings.com/index.de.shtml FLÜGE SUCHEN Button still not working !
Some other question , is it normal that CPU usage on many pages with Plug-in content by scrolling this pages very high is ? I mean is this gonne to be fixed in the next builds , cause i have always to disable Plug-ins in Site Preferences.
Thx in advance !
p.s.
I do not sorry about my bad english smile

JPG images are saved with JPEG extension.

Alexeif1avalanche Friday, November 9, 2007 3:53:47 PM

Good!!
Though I'm not really a very tough tester, but it seems to me that next or over one BETA-build is quite ready for the installation as the primary browser to check whether it is really that faster and more compatable (as I do hope so!) :-)

Thanks for the new build.
"Go to Web Address" is broken.
Select any text, right click and choose "Go to Web Address" you will get an error page with http://%t.

Interface issue: Reloading a speed dial entry causes a very ugly refresh icon.

Whoops, sorry...

[BUG 296670] Animated gif images get corrupted on Windows

Trasak Friday, November 9, 2007 4:07:08 PM

When repair in Opera 9.50 these errors:

1) cursor position in bookmarks (do not remember latest position)
2) full size downloadig file (example: 123 456 789)

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, November 9, 2007 4:07:19 PM

@tsarhan: No, this build does not include the video element.

This build still doesn't work with pound signs for inpage forwarding.

I.E. http://www.msxsecurity.com/csh/FS-Asus-Striker-Extreme-Motherboard-t44962.html&st=0#entry359637

Which instead only gives you this:
http://www.msxsecurity.com/csh/FS-Asus-Striker-Extreme-Motherboard-t44962.html&st=0

Notice the #entry359637.

This feature works great in both FF and IE7.

And get this, if you just click the link it works fine.
It's only when the user is forwarded via clicking "Get new posts" that
it fails.

Liu Yunliu-yun Friday, November 9, 2007 4:22:33 PM

nice build,

but when refreshing the speed dial, the turning buttons don't work out.

bexs Friday, November 9, 2007 4:25:58 PM

Not funny any more :/

Will this ... tray icon stay forever?

Bill PBill_P Friday, November 9, 2007 4:38:23 PM

In my mail panel there now shows all my individual mail accounts, but there appears to be no reason/function for this as they do not change when being retrieved from and clicking on them does nothing. Is this for a functionality to come?

Romain Vigier Friday, November 9, 2007 5:09:04 PM

I have the same ugly rendering on Gmail.
Since last build, when opening an image, it doesn't show entirely, the progress bar is frozen. But if we click in the address bar and hit Enter, the image shows instantly.
History search is freezing again Opera since last build.
Triple clicking still doesn't work.
Otherwise, thanks for fixing Google Video bug.
I'm using Opera on MacOS 10.4.
In my opinion, it should be great that submit buttons keep the hand cursor, regarding accessibility.

StaticX Friday, November 9, 2007 5:10:18 PM

When are U going FIX this?? :

1)Star bar doesnt work

2)Blocked content toolbar doesnt appear

3) Gmail top menu - is up side down!!

Opera 9.5 9649
Java 1.6
Win XP SP 2 (With all updates)

This problems appear me from previous build! - and I made clear install.

dieburnbot Friday, November 9, 2007 5:13:36 PM

Thank you for fixing this!!!!:

*Fixed wrong context menu shown for selected text that is a link*

I thought I was going to lose my mind...

GroovyMicky Friday, November 9, 2007 5:16:35 PM

Videos are not playing at CNN and FoxNews.
All videos plays at the same time when you go to On10.net.
(Intel, WinXP_SP2, all needed plugins, o950s_9649m.exe)
Oh, I almost forgot - Please reconsider putting big grey question mark in every URL bar of Opera. It's confusing for new users.

Ar1Pear1pe Friday, November 9, 2007 5:20:57 PM

Thanks bigsmile

Kondratev Artemv1nx Friday, November 9, 2007 5:23:53 PM

Andresandresruiz Friday, November 9, 2007 5:25:29 PM

Hi, Thanks for the new build
Sorry but, again I have to say that saving images using "Save Image" still opens the Transfers Tab, that's annoying Team !!
Yep, and again I have to say that Opera downloads all attachments from Hotmail as "GetAttachment.aspx" file, so...wrong filename and extension. In my case, as I have Dreamweaver installed, Opera tries to open every attachment with Dreamweaver.
In New Yahoo Mail, still can't get my attachments downloaded after click on "Save"
@Serpher
Don't you think is very soon to talk about final version ?
Again Thanks

Zorglub Friday, November 9, 2007 5:28:58 PM

Drop-down menus are not working properly and videos are not playing at http://www.spiegel.de/
"Go to URL" in the context menu is broken.
Opera build 9649.

Tim AltmanJunyor Friday, November 9, 2007 5:54:43 PM

@Bill_P: Yes, functionality to come.

János, Vinczevinczej Friday, November 9, 2007 5:56:15 PM

I can fix, that the new empty mails can issue, if I open the new mails directly from the "Mails"-popup, not from the menu. If I close with 'X' the popup, and opens the Unread folder from menu, doesn't appear the empty-mail symptom.

GroovyMicky Friday, November 9, 2007 5:57:07 PM

Headers in http://www.seedmagazine.com/news articles are overlaping main menu. This was fixed in earlier betas and now the bug is back.

Investor Friday, November 9, 2007 5:59:55 PM

Drop-down menus are not working properly and videos are not playing at http://www.spiegel.de/

Drop down menus... Home| Politik|Wirtschaft| Panorama| etc. work... but yes, most videos don't... "Die Deutsche Wiedervereinigung" did work wink
(windows XP)

Often many direct link to JPG images are still loaded partially.
I must press F5 sometime to display correctly.

Jeff ™intelimac20inch Friday, November 9, 2007 6:05:46 PM

Thanks for new Build developers! up coffee

Scott Viviansvivian Friday, November 9, 2007 6:17:52 PM

"Opera runs on Windows 95 again!"
Is it even worth supporting anything prior to XP now? Even Windows 98 has less than 0.01% share, 95 is way less.

Kirilljarinkirill Friday, November 9, 2007 6:21:37 PM

Try to go to http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ленин
