when X-mas comes early…

, ,

…you get a snapshot build to play with - with a few nice fixes  Make sure you read the changelog: we don't want to hear about your cache having disappeared…

And since it has been asked: the snapshots contain the security fixes that were released in 9.25. But: (read on…)

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Known issues:
  • [Bug 303586] Spatial navigation is very broken.
  • [Bug 303604] Opera Link does currently not show the Link icon in the toolbar.
  • [Bug 304257] Sorting by date is broken on Windows.
  • opera:historysearch is currently disabled - work in progress

Changelog:
  • [Bug 303059] Fixed a crasher when loading an invalid widget.
  • [Bug 286722] Fixed autocompletion dropdown in URL field to allow cycling through it with arrow keys.
  • [Bug 300257] Fixed a crash on GMail 2.
  • Speeding up access to threaded access points in Mail.
  • Speeding up history search in address field - it also works much smoother now and does not flicker anymore!

Windows specific:
  • VPS, Cache, Images and Mail directories have been moved to "Local Settings" folder in order to limit amount of data in the roaming profile.

UNIX-specific:
  • [Bug 295734] Fixed checkboxes in Qt4 native skin.
  • Sending XEmbed focus messages when having an XEmbed'ed plug-in.

We need an option to specify vps directory when using single user profile.

That csant is a tricky devil... I'll be watching him. Chatting and working... I didn't even know one could do such a thing. Thanks for the bug numbers .

Fixed a crash on GMail 2
Can someone explain how this crash was reproduced?

Happy ChrismaHanuKwanza desktop team!

For the beta testers that don't have access to Opera's BTS, I bring to you a gift.

Thx much again. What is the advantage of moving the VPS, cache, images and mail directories to the Local Settings folder?

verry annoying or better a lot of sh...

please use it as *opt in* *feature.

all was in the right place until some freaky, crazy people think, let us change someting.

Riba wrote"Maybe "...in order to limit amount of data in the roaming profile."?"

What is the advantage of that? Less fragmentation? Different rights for those folders being advantageous for performance? I have no clue. Hence the question (it must be a Windows related thing).

By EricJH, # 21. December 2007, 15:16:49

@EricJH

Roaming profiles is indeed a Windows thing. It is used in business networks to keep desktop settings and the My Documents folder centralized on a server to allow you to log onto any computer on the network and get your settings downloaded to the PC when you log in.

I guess that the goal of removing the images and cache from the roaming profile is to reduce login time (because the PC is basically locked while this stuff downloads), reduce network traffic and reduce server diskspace.

M2 - windows
* Can not sort by "sent date"...
* Weird graphic artifact in the label column (selected line only)

Someone gets coal this christmas for not being able to sort mail by date!

Right-click and "Save to download folder" is still totally broken on Mac. I reported this with first alpha of 9.5, how long will it take to fix it? I could use 9.5 daily if this was fixed.

* Can not sort by "sent date"...

Label Column header has two clickable part.

Thanks, and merry christmas to you all @ Opera.

The only problem i've had with the last two snapshots is with http://www.egotastic.com/ It sends my dual core to 100% on both cpu's.
It looks like it's when it's trying to load the ads.

@Luchio. Thanks for the information. It doesn't bring any advantage to my situation.

When I check with Explorer and see where the folders are according to Opera then it turns out that the Mail directory is still in the old place. I am using Opera without mail active.

Can anybody confirm? I am on Vista.

By EricJH, # 21. December 2007, 15:53:40

@EricJH:Clean install or upgrade?
On winxp clean install it was moved.

Please, fix the bug when Opera is trying to donwload file w/o its extention.

For example:
Link: http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/o950s_9716m.exe
Click on it and Opera offers to download file, but instead «o950s_9716m.exe», we recieve this: «o950s_9716m».

By tsarhan, # 21. December 2007, 16:14:15

For anyone wondering, in Vista you'll find a new directory structure under here:

c:\Users\Your_login_name\AppData\Local\Opera
It contains: Cache4, Images, VPS

The old location was here:
c:\Users\Your_login_name\AppData\Roaming\Opera

Note that all the data will need to be moved over manually, since Opera doesn't migrate content to the new location.

It didn't touch Mail, but then maybe it knows that I don't use it.

How about one "master" opera:config setting to relocate all these directories elsewhere (like to another drive)? I realize there are individual settings for each of them (with the notable exception of VPS) but a unified setting would be convenient.

thanks
really looking forward to trying this build

VPS, Cache, Images and Mail directories have been moved to "Local Settings" folder in order to limit amount of data in the roaming profile

great idea!

this will not only make the profile folder a lot lighter, but will allow no-hassle backup of the entire profile folder (in one shot) - no more having to go thru and un-select those unwanted items before zipping them up

Thanks for the new build!

The only "problem" I have is I cannot post bulletins on Myspace. I know, I know... Myspace sucks, is the devil, etc. but it worked fine in 9.25.

It also happens on Capital One "Forgot Password/Username" links.

By someguyouknow, # 21. December 2007, 16:46:36

While i have a "mail" folder in the new location, there is nothing in the folder, the old location is still being used.

By toadbee, # 21. December 2007, 16:48:48

@toadbee; I didn't even have the folder, but I manually transfered it there.

By ar1pe, # 21. December 2007, 17:13:19

avatar
@ar1pe,
Well look in there and check your file dates (the ones you transferred) - I can't imagine transferring them would make Opera use that folder...?

By toadbee, # 21. December 2007, 17:16:08

Thanks! Happy Christmas!

Issues on Linux (Intel, Mandriva 2008):
- coding in feeds titles is not set properly, while whole messages are ok. (When I first open feeds titles of new ones are ok, but when I click on one and want to read it, it changes to strange things). See a screenshot: http://img86.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bashda4.png Those messages has Polish charset. CORRECTION: happened in 9.5 beta, now is ok.

- Saved files have double extension - when I want to save a file (it doesn't happen when I want to save a picture from page, using Save Image.. and Save Link as...) its extension is doubled. For example, Opera want to save file with name FILE.EXT.EXT.

One more: Opera crashes when I try to synchronize it.

By hailie, # 21. December 2007, 17:26:37

@toadbee; I changed the path in opera:config

Something I already forgot: in 9694 I couldn't get or send mail before I opened mail settings, clicked edit, changed nothing and clicked ok. After that everything worked ok. The same thing now happened with this build.

edit: @hailie. Works here, but already reported here http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=217496
