New snapshot: Introducing advanced tab activation
By CarlSabatzki. Monday, 11. February 2008, 11:29:00
This build implements a much requested option for all you users switching from other browsers.
You can now get that Safari, Firefox, IE or <insert alternative browser of choice here> tab handling in Opera, too.
To take advantage of that, simply change Preferences > Advanced > Tabs > "When closing a tab"
to your desired behavior:
Activate the last active (default)
Activate the tab to the right
Active the first tab opened from closing tab
Now start closing them tabs like there's no tomorrow!
Known Issues
WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Known Issues
- Plug-ins crash Opera on UNIX/Linux.
- Some plugins on Mac don't work at all.
- Format selector when saving pages is broken.
- Opera will not fetch more than 50 new IMAP messages in one go - you'll need to reset the account to get more.
- Inline find stops working after entering one letter (using Ctrl/Cmd+F still works as expected).
- Advanced tab activation currently does not work on Mac or UNIX/Linux.
- Added a new preference in Preferences > Advanced > Tabs which controls which tab to activate when closing a tab.
- Fixed crash when composing mail with empty signature
- Fixed crash when emptying history and VPS was disabled
- css3 :target now works on targets identified using name attribute
- New spatnav highlighting, similar to the one used in Opera Mini 4 and the Wii browser
- iframes with contenteditable are now in in the tabbing order (Another gmail 2 fix)
- 64-bit: Again possible to open (image) attachments in mail
- Some more improvement to fast forward.
- Opera Link now works better when using Work offline
- Again possible to open links from widgets
- UNIX: Drag and drop now works properly in the ION window manager

Three points:
1. Inline search with ".": I can enter only the first letter.
2. Loading time for the spead dial page is wrong.
3. Downloading a file with "Run" causes a "File not found Dlg".

A , B > B1 , C , D
I close B.
- Activate the last active (default):
Jumps to D -> OK
- Active the first tab opened from closing tab
Jumps to D -> Wrong, because it should jump to B1, shouldn't it?

Weird - for me the only version of Opera I can get working on FreeBSD 7 is the linked one provided here. Works great apart from seg fault when importing .p12 certificates (applies to all Kestrel builds and also affects Mac OS)

I'd be happy if developers would add complete features, when adding new features copied from other browsers. As noted by Sterkrig, the advanced tab activation sorely misses the "activate tab to the left" option!! WTF???
Please use some Opera ingenuity when adding features next time and give us a full set.

Trying to open a downloaded file from opera always returns "file not found" error. (on upgraded opera on windows XP and on fresh opera in tablet windows vista)
A new, fresh installation on my tabletPC (hp tc1100 with windows vista) pops a "mail initializaition error" all the times I open Opera (and there's no mail accounts in this fresh installation!)
And another thing: my tablet PC is barely unusable with Opera due to lack of "tip" support: when focusing a textarea or a input field (also opera's address bar and search fields) there's not the usual button that brings up the Tablet PC Input facility, that helps Tablet PC owners to enter text. Please, tell me that you'll work it out.. I'm LOST without opera! :/

As others have mentioned, it would be useful to know if plugins are fixed on Unix in this build. It seems to me that they are still broken.
Hopefully with the new tab activation we will finally silence the endless moaning that Operasoft never listens to its users, recognising that not everybody's pet feature can be made a priority.
