New snapshot: Introducing advanced tab activation
By CarlSabatzki. Monday, 11. February 2008, 11:29:00
This build implements a much requested option for all you users switching from other browsers.
You can now get that Safari, Firefox, IE or <insert alternative browser of choice here> tab handling in Opera, too.
To take advantage of that, simply change Preferences > Advanced > Tabs > "When closing a tab"
to your desired behavior:
Activate the last active (default)
Activate the tab to the right
Active the first tab opened from closing tab
Now start closing them tabs like there's no tomorrow!
Known Issues
WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Known Issues
- Plug-ins crash Opera on UNIX/Linux.
- Some plugins on Mac don't work at all.
- Format selector when saving pages is broken.
- Opera will not fetch more than 50 new IMAP messages in one go - you'll need to reset the account to get more.
- Inline find stops working after entering one letter (using Ctrl/Cmd+F still works as expected).
- Advanced tab activation currently does not work on Mac or UNIX/Linux.
- Added a new preference in Preferences > Advanced > Tabs which controls which tab to activate when closing a tab.
- Fixed crash when composing mail with empty signature
- Fixed crash when emptying history and VPS was disabled
- css3 :target now works on targets identified using name attribute
- New spatnav highlighting, similar to the one used in Opera Mini 4 and the Wii browser
- iframes with contenteditable are now in in the tabbing order (Another gmail 2 fix)
- 64-bit: Again possible to open (image) attachments in mail
- Some more improvement to fast forward.
- Opera Link now works better when using Work offline
- Again possible to open links from widgets
- UNIX: Drag and drop now works properly in the ION window manager

Well, 2 weeklies ago, when I tried to download the weekly, clicking on the links to download, I got this message from Opera 9.5: Opera.exe - Unable to Locate component This application has failed to start because xpcom-dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I re-installed Opera, and didn't fix the issue, last build I made a complete uninstall and a new instalation in new folder...didn't fix the problem. Today I uninstalled and downloaded the classic installer (using FF) and installed again Opera with the classic installer...and it didn't fix the problem.
To download new weeklies I've been using Firefox, Internet Explorer and even tried with Safari Beta, It worked in all of them. (Opera 9.25 works too) But 9.5 has a problem. Anyone with the same issue?

Too bad that POP3 fetching is still brokwn :-(
When I click a link to an .exe file, the file is opened now inside the browser instead of showing me the download (open/save...) dialog.
Didn't happen with 9770.
zoquete # 11. February 2008, 15:37
fetching pop3 was not broken, I gess.

While I know I am testing snapshot build(s), this makes it pretty much unusable on linux (as most pages have some kinda plugin these days).
well, only option is to go back to FF3 I guess..

not working inline search with . is almost a reason for not installing this weekly. This is probably the feature of Opera I use most. But then: I want to see the new spatnav-highlighting
Hope the linux plugin crash is fixed soon. This is really annoying (at least I don't have to use IE for sites that use plugins

I though this way known, as an 'official' (TheAtilla?) sounded as if it was known.
With 9770 it 'sometimes' downloaded quite a bunch of new mails right after start, but then no more for the entire session.
With this build I haven't received one single mail yet (with 3 pop accounts), though I have about 20 new mails.
Will see if I can find the forum thread.
Sorry, don't remember the bug number
@Junyor: no, actually it was you

One thing making it even worse is the fact, that I do not see the way to have both Opera versions (stable 9.25 and Kestrel) to be installed on the system - which is quite easy to do in Windows environment - so Opera can not be used for normal browsing when testing and regression to 9.25 is not an option either. So it seems like sticking with 1772...
Kenneth Crudup # 11. February 2008, 16:33
... y'all do have a source-control system with changelogs and time-constrainable diff, right? In 10 days time, certainly someone should know what causes this, right?

This beta don't cause DEP to be disabled for Opera process.
Please support DEP also in Final releases too.
Thanks.

Concerning tabs, I already get the behaviour I prefer by redefining the close action (when closing with [Ctrl + W] or with mouse gesture) to "close and switch to the previous tab" :-)
Lutz Kessler # 11. February 2008, 17:07
On the downside:
Title attribute still not rendered e. g.
Navigating backwards by mouse gesture can lead to pages that won't stop loading.
A search at http://imdb.com also results in an everloading page that won't react to mouse clicks or spational navigation unless one stops the loading process manually.

Can you solve it in that way?
my New Yahoo Mail is crashing Opera's new build, can anyone confirm?
grogge # 11. February 2008, 17:15
I have that problem 100% of the time when posting at www.heise.de. It's very annnoying. The text I've entered in the text field before I pressed "Vorschau" is not reloaded when going back from the Preview, but instead the text that in it before entering my own text (for example a quotation) is in there and the page won't stop loading. It's only loading the page from tha cache so what connection is Opera waiting for?
Tim Altman # 11. February 2008, 17:22
@kennycrudup: We know the cause of the UNIX plug-in crash and we are working daily on fixing it. The issue does not have a simple fix.

<element>.scrollIntoView()
... DOM function is broken.
Drats ... I was hoping for some sort of work around. Might have to roll back a build myself.

I don't think I have to do the forum search for you three. neither have the devs...
*Sigh* Ok, here's the official (but IMHO not very conclusive) answer:

Shell extension in that place was never a problem. Anyone noticing complaints in forums about it being used there in the transfer window? I didn't.
PS: Found a bug with permalinks! The last part "#comment2237496" is somehow omitted when following the "Permalink" link. I had to use Internet Explorer to get the complete URL for the above post.
