Opera Desktop Team

Public Acid3 build

,

Two days ago Opera reached a 100/100 pass rate on the Acid3 test for the first time and we published a screenshot on the Desktop team blog to back the claim. Lars Erik Bolstad, the Head of Core Technology at Opera Software, now announces the first public build with a 100/100 pass rate and pixel perfect rendering!

Read more and download the special builds linked to in the article!

Woot. Downloaded. Now testing...

Edit: Now i see 100/100 with my own eyes. ;-)

johnnysaucepn 28. March 2008, 13:15

Exciting stuff - especially to get the little bit of extra insight into the development process...

mrd 28. March 2008, 13:18

Very cool. Nice to see that

varyform 28. March 2008, 13:20

Hello, from WinGogi!
Nice skin, btw... but lacks some elements

ar1pe 28. March 2008, 13:29

:D

stranded 28. March 2008, 13:32

it actually works xD

I LOVE THAT ICON xD for wingogi_release_desktop.exe

mrd 28. March 2008, 13:33

This is just a stealth way of getting feedback on the.... icon isn't it?

The whole ACID3 thing, yeah yeah whatever. You're all sitting around at OperaCentral watching for what we say about the Icon.

And you get two thumbs up from me (and the cat meows).

johnnysaucepn 28. March 2008, 13:34

No, this is the new Opera Lite people have been asking for.

Zurtex 28. March 2008, 13:35

I notice you have to press the back button 5 times after completing the test for you to actually go back, is this expected behavior?

halabund 28. March 2008, 13:36

Does this version have its own font rendering engine (or maybe it uses FreeType)? The fonts look very different from what we are used to on Windows. I noticed this on the first screenshot that was posted, too.

hermen2048 28. March 2008, 13:36

Yeah, the icon is nice
Note that it also supports the 3D canvas extensions.

lamarca 28. March 2008, 13:37

downloading

stoffix 28. March 2008, 13:38

@ zurtex:
probably not, but this build is just a demonstration of opera almost passing the Acid 3 test. you should definitively just use this build for testing.

elitegeek 28. March 2008, 13:40

Cool! thanks!

Junyor 28. March 2008, 13:40

There's a screenshot at http://weblog.timaltman.com/archive/2008/03/28/acid3-100100-and-pixel-perfect, for anyone that's interested.

AVL 28. March 2008, 13:40

halabund: yes, it uses FreeType.

stranded 28. March 2008, 13:42

I really like how slim and thin this engine thing is, if only we could customize Opera to look like that

skye11 28. March 2008, 13:48

excellent!!!

Investor 28. March 2008, 13:52

How to install this *Opera Lite* ??? Which win-zip file ?

p01 28. March 2008, 13:56

Way to go!

Interestingly Opera/Gogi scores 100/100 consistently. It doesn't take a reload or two *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*

ytsmabeer 28. March 2008, 13:57

Install? just run the exe file which is in it.
This is not you everyday snapshot or build it's wingogi

FataL 28. March 2008, 13:58

Wow!
Now to testing...

I like the skin BTW...

I am not amused. :irked: It would be nice though.

Well, tried to run the "wingogi release desktop exe" file, but it crashed...
I'm not a geek  anyway thanks

FataL 28. March 2008, 14:21

Where is "Paint" button?

And I just love non-modal alert boxes!
Left it non-modal for us web devs, please...

OpJohannes 28. March 2008, 14:32

@Investor: Make sure you unzip the whole thing and run it from there. You can't run it from within the zipfile.

Zotlan 28. March 2008, 14:33

halabund: yes, it uses FreeType.

I am definitely liking that. Will we be seeing that in Kestrel as well or will we have to wait until Opera 10?
*hopes the skin of Opera 10 will be similar to this one*

stranded 28. March 2008, 14:34

:O

AndrewNi 28. March 2008, 14:37

I like the freetype on WinGogi. Is WinGogi based off Merlin, Kestrel or ..?

My results:

Test 26 passed, but took 391ms.
Test 69 passed, but took 20 attempts.

Junyor 28. March 2008, 14:38

We have no plans to copy features from GOGI into Opera for Desktop. No icon. No non-modal dialogs. No "Paint" button. No FreeType font rendering. Opera for Desktop and GOGI have very different purposes and levels of OS integration.

@rwf: The Acid3 test depends a lot on your computer hardware, what other applications are running, and your connection latency.

drumblius 28. March 2008, 14:46

thanks

Zotlan 28. March 2008, 14:48

Shame that, it looks a lot nicer here.

YtseJam 28. March 2008, 14:48

How about just the icon? Or do you keep all the good stuff to yourself?

olli 28. March 2008, 14:54

No

YtseJam 28. March 2008, 14:55

No, you don't keep all the good stuff to yourself or no, we will not get the icon either? P:

The icon used in gogi is not tailored for a final product..

Thanks, running now

rwf 28. March 2008, 15:18

I assume it's standard to get different test results i.e. Test 69 is now saying took 1 attempts (less than perfect). Test 69 was not mentioned the first time I took the test.

tickleme 28. March 2008, 15:22

Congratulations and +1 regarding the icon. This icon looks mighty good indeed (at least at 16x16).

boogabug 28. March 2008, 15:24

I've downloaded the Linux tar.gz file. how do i install? I'm on Ubuntu Linux 7.10

virtuelvis 28. March 2008, 15:27

@boogabug: Open a terminal and cd to the directory you unpacked the tar.gz in, and type './lingogi' in the terminal.

andresruiz 28. March 2008, 15:28

WOw, thanks for providing us with that build
