Hi,

These new security fixes are included with latest snapshot release?

James Cassellelitegeek Thursday, April 3, 2008 10:30:54 AM

Thanks for the update! I'm running the stable release on my windows box.

lamarca lamarca Thursday, April 3, 2008 10:42:17 AM

thanks. already installed

BatmanL33tMasta Thursday, April 3, 2008 11:06:16 AM

Sounds good. I'll have to stick to the beta for Linux but I will install this on my Vista PC.

DanielGEO Thursday, April 3, 2008 11:12:48 AM

A working recent version of Flash for Linux would be awesome... just in case, the 9.5 releas takes for a while...

kiaM Thursday, April 3, 2008 11:14:16 AM

Thanks for the new update.
If i reload the acid3 test page with F5 key, my opera 9.27 crashes.
can anyone reproduce?

windows xp + sp2 + opera 9.27

Oh dear... yes. It requires reloading from cache in some way, and not everybody sees the problem.

Ngedwardng Thursday, April 3, 2008 1:06:07 PM

Acid 3 didn't add to it yet
Please integrate it as soon as possible the beat is v9.28
I need to open DHTML

kiaM Thursday, April 3, 2008 1:13:48 PM

@rijk: should i file a bug report?

Ngedwardng Thursday, April 3, 2008 1:28:08 PM

PLEASE *FIX IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Failed test in Acid3

kiaM Thursday, April 3, 2008 1:30:41 PM

@edwarding: i guess opera 9.2x will never reach a higher score. Only bugfixes will be released for this branch. you have to wait for 9.5 Final.

surfer dude Thursday, April 3, 2008 1:37:51 PM

I was told by Junyor that the reason the 9.50beta releases are no longer being released for Solaris Sparc because the build server is having problems. However, I see that 9.27 has been released for Solaris Sparc! What's going on here?

illiad Thursday, April 3, 2008 1:43:35 PM

surfer dude: if you had not realized yet, 9.5 is *very different* from 9.2x... I'll leave it to those that know to explain...

AFAIK the diff. between landrover & porche... bigsmile

Acid test people go here to see what will soon be possible..
http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2008/03/28/public-acid3-build
- and note it is very 'feature limited'...

Simon Houstonshoust Thursday, April 3, 2008 2:21:47 PM

@edwarding: opera passing the acid3 test is a highly experimental build, its currently not possible for opera to release a stable version that passes.

Claudio Santambrogiocsant Thursday, April 3, 2008 2:39:48 PM

surfer dude, merlin (9.27) and kestrel (9.5) use different code - things that broke on sparc in kestrel do not affect the merlin builds. I hope this helps to understand why there haven't been sparc solaris builds for kestrel yet. smile

Andresandresruiz Thursday, April 3, 2008 2:44:08 PM

Well, 1/2 hour downloadig that file at super low speeds...maybe your servers are not prepared for lots of downloads. But after that time, Opera 9.5 reported error in the transfers bar and the final file is 627KB...useless damaged file.
I'll try again later.
@edwardng
I think you're some confused about Opera versions, I think that Opera 9.2x Merlin is not intended to deal with Acid 3 Tests. That's for 9.5 Kestrel
Check this out: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/759403

surfer dude Thursday, April 3, 2008 2:47:58 PM

I know it's different, but I didn't think it would "very different" because it was still in the 9.x series. I use Solaris Sparc 9.26 and 9.5 beta Windows, and from an outward appearance, they are the same.

lamarca lamarca Thursday, April 3, 2008 2:55:32 PM

you probably were redirected to a server from chile, which is well known for low download rates.

illiad Thursday, April 3, 2008 3:30:42 PM

andresruiz: note that 'server overload' is a rare occourrence, caused by 'a final release' bigsmile - best to wait a few days/hours, just like rushour holiday traffic... but not as predictable!

FavDjiXas Thursday, April 3, 2008 3:31:58 PM

Updating... Thank You.

Andresandresruiz Thursday, April 3, 2008 3:56:21 PM

@lamarca
Yes, it was a server from Chile, I'll never download from it again.

As the bug#321400 I reported, never received the screenshot I sent by e-mail, I put it here.

To reproduce this bug you can visit my blog at:
http://andresruizsays.blogspot.com/2008/03/5-razones-para-no-usar-internet.html
Select one of the screenshots and click in order to see them in full ressolution, once the dialog is shown, just click immediately "Open".
In low speed internet connections, as mine (300 Kbps) Opera stops downloading the image and displays only part of it.

James Cassellelitegeek Friday, April 4, 2008 12:39:10 AM

@andresruiz: I have experienced the same thing (somewhat frequently)

You haven't been following the blog, have you? Rendering fixes and standards support that will make Acid3 work will not be seen in Merlin (Opera 9.2x). Kestrel (Opera 9.5) has some great rendering fixes that make the test run much better, but the final release of Kestrel will most likely not include the build of the rendering engine that passes Acid3.

In theory, we should not see a full Acid3 pass in a final release of Opera until some time after the final version of Kestrel. We won't have to wait until Peregrine, but we still won't see it right away.

Juan Francisco Giordanajuangiordana Friday, April 4, 2008 3:19:28 AM

I don't think I'll downgrade again to something <= 9.5 on Linux. I'm so amazed with the features on Kestrel that makes me hold the pain of even not having the status bar visisble and other minor things.

Please!
Dear developers!
Implement an Extensions System in Opera 9.5 !
We need it so much !

Why v9.2x [merlin] cannot pass the Acid 3 test?
Developer can edit the code, fix the bugs
If want to wait until v9.5[kestrel], it is long journey

Please excuse me if it got any mistakes, this is just my comment

Ngedwardng Friday, April 4, 2008 7:05:16 AM

Real result?????
If real , dev of opera should improve of fix the bugs to help opera be the best of the best

Fix in because i also felt that a bit slow in handling html script
but don't improve speed until all loss of feature and bugs ocurred more and more....
Please concern about this issue

Slowest in html test?????

i already said that download link should be option to choose up than 20
This is very important eg: when u download a things 5kbps
it will help u to 60kbps

Please tell the developer to refer bitcomet which can handle http task with the option to choose how many connection to download

illiad Friday, April 4, 2008 8:42:56 AM

@edwardng: please see sense....
(Mods & others please excuse me smile)

Merlins is AFAIK NOT CAPABLE of passing Acid3, its basic code is not good enough!!

- That is WHY Kestrel was developed!! Its Code base is much more advanced, to handle new web technologies better!!

It is NOT as simple as 'putting a porsche engine in a mini!!' mad

And please! dont believe apple... (yess I can see wher that website is..) they are famous for 'bending the truth...'

If you love apple, go use safari.... it is up to you... smile

Heinrich_Hansen Friday, April 4, 2008 9:16:59 AM

Opera 9.27 on linux hangs infinitely with 100% CPU consumption during startup when a file ~/.opera/widgets/widgets.dat exists which is 0 bytes in size.

MyOpera team, please fix this!fearphage Friday, April 4, 2008 3:45:00 PM

Only security and stability fixes are going into merlin (9.2x). It will never pass acid3.

Yes, it's very frequent, most people doesn't notice it because if you have a high-speed internet connection, Opera shows the complete image, let me explain: It seems that Opera begin downloading the image when you click on the image in order to download or open it, when you click "Download" Opera keeps downloading until is complete, so there is no problem, but if you click "Open" Opera stops downloading and open it, so if you have high speed broadband, Opera download the file before you click something, but in low and mid speeds, Opera stops downloading and you get something like the screenshot I posted.
@illiad
Did you mean...a Porsche engine? yes

stranded Friday, April 4, 2008 4:21:22 PM

dudes any new snapshot coming today? :>

btw
did anyone notice that latest OperaMini Beta 4.1 (came out last nite) has exactly the same icon as WinGogi? wink

Jeff ™intelimac20inch Friday, April 4, 2008 4:39:22 PM

@Stranded - Junyor said there will be no snapshot.

g4qb Friday, April 4, 2008 7:59:00 PM

opera seems to use a different windowing system to other windows programs

using autohotkey,
; about
#+a:: ; opera
#!a:: ; not Opera
^#a::
SetKeyDelay 60
send !ha
return

g4qb Friday, April 4, 2008 8:07:40 PM

opera doesn't like right alt
this changed with ver 9.xx, I think

previously could use right alt just like left alt.

eg.
use:
i) 9.2 keyboard shortcuts
ii) standard US keyboard layout, not international where the right Alt becomes Alt-Gr

compare
1. ctrl-T x5
2. ctrl-left alt-w

a. ctrl-T x5
b. ctrl-right alt-w

now try
c. F9
d. ctrl-right alt-w

I was using 9.26 for Solaris Sparc for a while, and some web pages were taking a long time to load. I thought it was something in our network, but when I tried Firefox 2.0, the pages loaded quickly. However, Firefox sometimes becomes unresponsive when clicking on tabs (this happens on the Windows version as well; I don't know why Firefox is so highly regarded. Maybe because it's so similar in appearance and interface to IE?) and crashes. Version 9.27 seems to have fixed the slow web page rendering. Thanks!

9.2x won't be passing acid3 at all, wait for 9.5

illiad Saturday, April 5, 2008 1:11:38 PM

special Acid3 build here.. and note many OTHER features are very limited....

9.27 is mainly for *normal* people who just want to surf in safety...

It is *not* for browser competitions, 9.5 is what you need! bigsmile

Does Desktop Team think about: column-count/column-width CSS3 selectors, XForms, Gopher and jabber protocols, UserJs Manager, updater implementations?

In my job I work at Autodesks MapGuide and ESRI ArcIMS and I must to use theirs services but I can't use them in Opera.
Could you cooperate with ''The Open Geospatial Consortium'' http://www.opengeospatial.org/ or directly with Autodesk, Esri or other Geospatial industries to make compatible theirs and yours products??
