Opera Desktop Team

Beta 2 is Coming...

, , ,

Things here in the Desktop Team have been very, very hectic lately as we approach Kestrel Beta 2. The good news it that the wait is almost over.

Introduced in this build is a new fraud protection back-end. It's better, more reliable and allows us to block malicious sites more quickly than ever before. Fraud protection is now enabled by default.

For all of you non-native English speakers out there, most translations are included in this snapshot. Of course, someone will have to tell you what this blog post actually says for you to get the snapshot. :D

ottoflick 17. April 2008, 16:29

The Czech version of the installer seemed to have some problems with the character encoding, so I'm using the English one ... but still, thanks! Can't wait to see the final version .

Maxim 17. April 2008, 16:35

On one of previous build, while it doesn't have popup progress bar, I put "Progress status"-element on status bar. Now I can't remove it! Opera just ignore my command remove it

joshin 17. April 2008, 16:46

Would be nice if the finance.yahoo.com page's "streaming quotes" would update. Both FF and IE do.

vivabrevis: Did you file a bug report with crashlogs?

Grrblt 17. April 2008, 16:50

upgrading from 9903 reverted my ctrl+n (open new tab) back to the default open new window :frown:

update: it reverted my "open with default program" setting for torrent files too.

Nils S. Normann 17. April 2008, 16:50

My Feeds delete button has changed from "Delete" to "M_MAIL_REMOVE", and my mail delete button has been replaced with a "undelete" pulldown menu.

Lali 17. April 2008, 16:52

I download the windows version, but in the installer are this: TelepÁ-t"tc....=This is the Choose your languge , with Hungarin, but i think, that in encoding are mistake, because the Hungarian specific caracters dont see, just this: Telep"tCs...

DOOOMKULTUS 17. April 2008, 16:57

Fixed progress bar when set to pop-up at bottom.
Thanks finally for this.

Darn Celsius 17. April 2008, 16:58

Thank you. Your hard work is appreciated!

berend ytsma 17. April 2008, 16:59

Reported the wrong feeds delete and mail delete button as
Bug #324635

SiMcarD 17. April 2008, 16:59

What languages are included?
I have tried to enable italian but it didn't work.

Cyro 17. April 2008, 17:00

YEAH BABE, YEAH

alf245 17. April 2008, 17:00

Regression compared to 9.27 (visited links):

When "Preferences->Advanced->History->Empty on exit" is checked, visited links are not coloured grey anymore after a restart. It would be extremely nice to have 9.50 on par with 9.27 here.

berend ytsma 17. April 2008, 17:01

@SiMcarD:Italian sits in the windows package

Lena 17. April 2008, 17:04

"Delete" to "M_MAIL_REMOVE" - the same! I don't like it! And where is Russian language?

Andres 17. April 2008, 17:06

Thanks a lot for fixing progress bar, and please, remove that "feature" wich Opens the Transfers Tab every time you save an image or something from a web page, it's annoying. Just let it for Transfers that need time to download, as it used to be.
...Yes I know you can change Transfers Tab preferences in order to stop that tab pop-up behavior. But we know that because we are Opera fans and experts, normal people will find that annoying and they won't know how to deal with it.
Please nervous

lamarca 17. April 2008, 17:11

mail body is not displayed (just the subject, date, time) for forwarded messages. (winxp)
anyone else?

Ednilson Maia 17. April 2008, 17:11

Yeah! :D

[Windows] When hiding Opera (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+H), a tray icon is created

For me is Ctrl+H only

Version 9.50 beta
Build 9937
Platform Win32
System Windows XP

Ke11ett 17. April 2008, 17:22

The notes list is still sorting in alphabetical order rather than the custom order i have my notes set in but display correctly on the Insert Note menu.

The bug with RSS feeds with pictures getting "cut-off" seems to be solved.

Hurray for search on the context menu on highlighted text that is inside a hyperlink

On the Open With context menu why is there a separator between FireFox & Internet explorer?

alf245 17. April 2008, 17:23

Regressions compared to 9.27 (address/search field drop-down):

1) The width of the address field drop-down decreases when a few buttons are added to the address bar. Not so with 9.27.

2) The height of the address field drop-down is still smaller in comparison to 9.27: Two lines are missing (Linux build).

3) The height of the search field drop-down has been drastically reduced: 22 simultaneously visible entries in 9.27, just 12 simultaneously visible entries currently. Way too little for me.

Шуйский Николай [krigstask, Ŝtérkrìg] 17. April 2008, 17:34

Who did report bug about Ctrl-F/Find in page? It's still alive

Cyro 17. April 2008, 17:41

I can't remove any buttons. Only move them. Can anyone confirm?

GrantTLC 17. April 2008, 17:45

Man, It's some time needed to fix all bugs and give shape to Opera 9.5 Kestrel, almost sure there will be more betas, and similar time between them, so yes, we have to wait "a few months", maybe not for Kestrel final, but for Beta 3. So be pacient, those guys are not making bread, they're developing the best browser on earth. So, as the colombian bear company Bavaria says: Best things on live take time

PiTRiS 17. April 2008, 18:02

confirming - cant remove items from some bars...

and selecting non-hotlink links http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=222377 is still broken... like 10th build in a row :/

Andrew Frazier 17. April 2008, 18:03

Is it deliberate that when upgrading that the Windows Media Player plugin is deleted from the plugins folder?

Charlie 17. April 2008, 18:07

I am now able to log in to Wachovia's web site again.

underman 17. April 2008, 18:09

I was on stable Opera 9.27 and got fooled too quickly by the annoncement (lol) so i installed what i thought was new beta2 p:

Anyway... I got a problem with mail
I updated like this:
uninstall with cccleaner, then re-run the cleaner to start on a empty sheet.
Then installed using the .msi intaller build into "\Opera" directory where v9.27 was before.

At first launch, Opera presented me a screen to update some mail database, clicked yes, then restarted as asked.
On restart, asked me to upadte database again. Clicked yes, then restarted.

Now at every launch Opera gives me an error message about mail:
"There was a problem initializing Opera Mail.
Engine Init() failed"

And under Tools tab, the section 'Mail and Chat accounts' is greyed out.

Any advice?
i'm on Vista 32bits system btw.

Frank 17. April 2008, 18:13

The new build doesn't work for me. It crashes at startup. I first upgraded the old 9.50 build. Then I uninstalled 9.5, cleaned the AppData\Roaming\Opera 9.5 folder and installed again. But still the same error.

Windows event viewer shows me:

I also have Opera 9.27 installed and I am using Windows Vista Business SP1. Installed the German version of Opera 9.5 .

Serpher 17. April 2008, 18:14

Hey, how many betas are you planning? (in case of Firefox there was 5)

Köstler Karl jr. 17. April 2008, 18:18

Thx u for the many improvements!

Sadly 1 thing was not fixed:
Fixed print preview of mail and pages with iframes

Blank site after print preview. Try with google image preview or e.g. http://images.google.at/imgres?imgurl=http://www.opera.com/img/press/screenshots/opera9.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.opera.com/press/images/gfx/&h=768&w=1024&sz=189&hl=de&start=16&um=1&tbnid=ibUupulpf-gwkM:&tbnh=113&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dopera%2Bsite:www.opera.com%26um%3D1%26hl%3Dde%26sa%3DG

By the way print preview of framesites still not scrollable.
I wish n hope the best!
