A lighter EV
By csant. Friday, 23. May 2008, 14:12:02
We have been very strict on our EV implementation - the rationale behind our strict "It ain't EV 'til it's EV, all EV" has been extensively documented by Yngve in a few articles.
However, we are now moving towards a less strict implementation - a consistent user experience is important throughout the wide palette of browsers that implemented EV. At the recent face-to-face meeting with the Web Security Context Working Group, we have agreed with other vendors on this behaviour as an industry standard. You will now get the green padlock, signalling the presence of an EV certificate, if the top level document is served with strong TLS and EV, and all included elements are served at least with strong TLS. For details, please head over to Yngve's article.
In other news, Dragonfly guys have started making snapshots as well, with their first one released yesterday. On the desktop side we have started persistently caching the Dragonfly application so that it loads much faster, and can be used offline, after restarting Opera.
Also, our Core team has started a blog - head over to the new Core Team blog to follow the cool news and latest development at Opera's heart.
WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

I had /usr/lib/opera/plugins/libflashplayer.so defined as a soft link to /usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so. In i386 no plugins (other than adobe) were found and in x64bit only the audio played.
When I placed actual flash .so in both directories Flash worked again. So appears that Opera has problem with soft links.
----------------------------
There seems to be still a problem with Opera finding plugins especially if I've switched between the 64 and 32bit versions

Also, when I'm clicking on Banner on http://www.yandex.ru they redirect me to:
http://ad.adriver.ru/cgi-bin/click.cgi?sid=1&ad=127762&bt=37&pid=234066&bid=445496&bn=445496&rnd=86220328&bn=445496
And Opera also tells that this is "Fraud Warning" site.
It seems to be false positive detection.

I can not confirm that this is fixed. I have a theory that pgo is breaking stuff.

Maybe green with smile, maybe green with light-green border or whatever.
Or maybe the opposite - make it green with yellow, gray or black border for less-then-all EV.
Let them both be more or less green, but let them be distinguishable.

This must be raised to a checkbos in the padlock's site/certificate info dialog.

Unfortunately, quite a lot of Opera features have been cut down in the past to be more "consistent" with Firefox and other browsers. Regarding the EV setting there's an option though, while other features have been changed without the possibility for the user to choose the old behaviour.

Its using Shockwave for Director. I have it installed. It worked the build before 9.50 BETA 2. Im using 9.50 build 10014.

I'm not sure if this just me or if everyone is having this problem--I'm using Windows 2000. I've had this problem for this build and the prior. Gmail ui=1 seems to work fine.

Yea, this is unfortunate in most cases because it changes the way I use Opera all together if it's a user interface change.
For instance, I haven't used "Paste and Go" since the new shortcuts were put in place (after testing the new assignment initially though of course). The new shortcut just isn't as friendly and easily accessible and I wouldn't sacrifice the new layout by switching to the 9.2 shortcuts...so I just have conform as well and get used to the mainstream changes.
Just little things here and there that are changed for consistence make a product just like the others. Enough ranting.
By the way, the start time for this build is incredible! I don't see anything in the changelog about it, but it's definitely faster here! Good work team!

It seems, that the sync hangs... I think, my Panda - AntiVirus (an I hate my Panda for this reason) brings opera to hang sometimes(often) up to 20 sec ore more when I entered a new page
Well, In the last build I remember, that a MessageBoxButton for accepting certificates? is to smal for the german translation. Check it please.
Keep on working. ILO

The note icon doesn't appear in the address bar anymore: are you working on this (till now buggy) feature?
However .. thanks guys

@wiley_e_wonka: Yeah, Gmail2 broke about 5-6 days ago. I think it's an update to Gmail2, because it was working quite well, a couple builds ago (with the bypass browser check...the world may end before Google doesn't discriminate against Opera UAs).
