nice one.

GrantTLC 23. May 2008, 12:06

Hmm. Interesting. Is this being released anywhere? And who is the target audience? Honest criticism: it feels slightly awkward...like it's trying too hard to be funky and appealing. Some nice people on display but their embarassment shows, particularly in the dancing.

And, seriously, can a browser really be called 'deep'? Or 'my sweetheart'? Like the pics of the too-trendy youngsters all over your community sites, the video smacks of artifice and superficiality.

Oh, and did anyone else think 'eye of sauron' at that last point? :left:

Not trying to be harsh, just saying what I think.

FoXyDeXter 23. May 2008, 12:09

opera _is_ my sweetheart

Cyro 23. May 2008, 12:16

Awesome video.
The Howcome dance at the end is funny.
Can anyone make an animated GIF from it?
Thanks:

Tamil 23. May 2008, 12:33

:D

EricJH 23. May 2008, 12:57

Opera rocks to the millionth power.... but this is hilariously trying to be hip and modern. It is funny in a way as well that is a bit sad.... come on you marketing people you can do better than this.

Tab10id 23. May 2008, 12:59

=)

torsteina 23. May 2008, 13:04

Puh, they edited me out of that movie (I'm not made for beeing a movie star  ). Must have been my dancing and that I had not shaved that day when we recorded the video.

Btw, it's not easy to laugh when you have a camera lense the sice of a grandiosa 20 cm from your face.

GrantTLC 23. May 2008, 13:10

It looks like you were all having lots of fun! And yes, having had a professional video camera pointed at my face recently, I can totally agree with how scary it is!

phoonkah 23. May 2008, 13:19

awfull sound engineering- overdrives 0_o

edivaldoapereira 23. May 2008, 13:22

I like Opera very much, and try to do everything on web using it, always the latest snapshot (Debian); I also continuously "preach" over all of Opera virtues, to my friends, workmates and students... but I'm sorry to say I needed to use Firefox to watch the clip...

Yeah, very noticable in the beginning.

hemangjoshi 23. May 2008, 13:26

opera is who make ppl waiting and waiting for even beta application for series60 mobile . no one attending ppl at forum from opera staff.

Although i use opera 8.65 maximum

GaryRW 23. May 2008, 13:43

I hope this is some user community quickie because if corporate had anything to do with it, it is even more pathetic. Does Opera think they can just hip-hop into larger installed base? On the other hand, it seems to be targeted toward mobile and probably to promote Opera Mini. But most of the people seemed to be freshly pulled from waiting intensely in a restroom queue.

PS: Ironically disturbing is that it wouldn't play in Opera 9.5 until after a long, long delay but played immediately in IE7; both Flash 10 beta.

FoxM 23. May 2008, 13:43

I want to work at Opera!!!

Don't you need any ABAP consultant????

hahahaha

Ohh.. well... maybee if I just restart with C++

phoonkah 23. May 2008, 14:10

if opera team will need a music ask me
u can find some of my work here http://myspace.com/phoonkah

ziggy1337 23. May 2008, 14:37

One word for the video: awkward!

stranded 23. May 2008, 14:39

really weird and akward. didn't like it, sorry lol

syne 23. May 2008, 16:03

You'd better remove it from YouTube, and hire advertising pro's.
Seems like it doesn't make people want to work for you.

Yndi 23. May 2008, 16:57

Really nice vid and I really love Opera. And as many users of the weeklys report bugs, I think we all work a little bt for Opera and I'll go on doing this as long as Opera has bugs.
I know you will kill ALL the bugs one day

serious 23. May 2008, 17:18

I'd join, but I'm not really qualified. But well, if you can need a guy with a little C & Java knowledge (as much as you can get in two semesters in university - "communication and simulation engineering" is my branch) you know how to reach me. Don't have anything to do this sommer anyhow

PS: well, maybe next summer I'll really try to get an internship at opera ^^

greatjulius 23. May 2008, 17:25

how can i activate my account

andresruiz 23. May 2008, 18:50

Nice way to dance Mr Hakon Wium Lie :D

towolf 23. May 2008, 23:13

Typical Opera marketing, kinda cute and always a little goofy.

MrBlueSky 23. May 2008, 23:41

That was just ever-so slightly over geekish! It makes me not want to be associated with using Opera!

sgunhouse 24. May 2008, 01:30

What's wrong with geek?

I wouldn't mind working for them, but I don't know C++. (Never stopped me from reading it, but I can't write it.)

haavard 24. May 2008, 08:09

If you want to work for Opera, you'd better expect "ever so slightly geekish"!

(If someone still doesn't get it, it is not a marketing video for the browser.)

hansheng 24. May 2008, 08:16

Good Luck~` :jester:

Stifu 24. May 2008, 14:31

I was interested in working for Opera until I saw this. p:

NoteMe 25. May 2008, 16:13

Håkon Wium Lie with his dance did the whole video :D A bit goofy, and a bit awkward, but most of all cute, and at least for me it was easy to get the message. Although I can see quite a few seems to have missed the point thinking it was an advertisement for Opera Products.

Cushy 25. May 2008, 17:52

Huh!

iceni 25. May 2008, 18:20

i really like opera, it's one of my favourite programs, i wanted to say that because i think the video is really, really bad and you can't show it anywhere else. go and find some beautiful opera users and film them if you have to show people.

i just tried watching it again and i can't watch it it's sooo bad, please don't show it to anyone who doesn't like opera!

FoxM 25. May 2008, 18:28

There is no such a thing like a beautiful computer programmer!

That is... just... not normal!

Hahahahaha

Besides, this is not an advertisement, this is normal people making a video for normal people.

Yes, it is not the prettiest thing ever, but it doesn't matter... this is like a videoblog, and there is nothing wrong with that...

Alas! is people always this marketing-driven?

AdsMobile 25. May 2008, 18:47

The Opera is my 2nd wife's
Agree ?

OopSs !!!

How about programs ?

I Thinks like you...!!!

Lol

FoxM 25. May 2008, 19:39

Remember the Dilbert Principle: the most ineffective workers are systematically moved to the place where they can do the least damage: management

That's why Opera is such a good web Browser

FoxM 25. May 2008, 19:46

You may be wondering if you fit the description of a Dilbert Principle manager. Here's a little test:
1. Do you believe that anything you don't understand must be easy to do? (this one is specially fitted to the conversation)

2. Do you feel the need to explain in great detail why "profit" is the difference between income and expense?

3. Do you think employees should schedule funerals only during holidays?

4. Are the following words a form of communication or gibberish:
"The Business Services Leadership Team will enhance the
organization in order to continue on the journey toward a
Market Facing Organization (MFO) model. To that end, we
are consolidating the Object Management for Business
Services into a cross strata team."
5. When people stare at you in disbelief, do you repeat what you just said, only louder and slower?

Now give yourself one point for each question you answered with the letter "B." If your score is greater than zero, congratulations -- there are stock options in your future.

(The language in number 4 is from an actual company memo.)
