Opera Desktop Team

Busy busy busy

Hei hå

We have a new build for you to play with. We are trying to get it more stable now so look out for crashers and regressions :-)

We also are experimenting a bit with Dragonfly tab handling - Dragonfly now opens inside the Opera window. To detach it again use this button (drag the link to a toolbar): Detach

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Known issues:
  • Dragonfly does not work when JavaScript is disabled.
  • Problems with repaint when scrolling pages etc
  • Save Linked Content As fails sporadically.
  • Marking messages Unread in the Trash view will actually permanently delete them.
  • Text selections don't draw correctly in Opera Mail and MHTML documents.

  • Fixed Opera icon in add/remove programs in Windows Vista
  • Startup is now a lot faster when having many bookmarks
  • Made http authentication work in Widgets again

thanks opera dev team

widge34 28. May 2008, 16:52

Still loads the old version of Gmail on the Mac. :frown:

pingflood 28. May 2008, 17:03

I think Dragonfly should open in a new tab instead of the new (embedded) and the old (new window) behaviour..

Anyway, great build! Thank you!

booz0r 28. May 2008, 17:15

did the icons in the Panel-Bar just go tiny or is that just me?

_eRiZ_ 28. May 2008, 17:19

All of bugs that I mentioned are repaired.

Thanks, dude. ;]

Michael83815 28. May 2008, 17:20

Wow UserJS works and my favotite site(Flash) http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/home is working

Thank you thank you thank you......

markcs 28. May 2008, 17:24

Thanks!

'Allow Scripts to Receive Right Clicks' still doesn't work... :frown:

piroxicam 28. May 2008, 17:25

yay! thanks!
unfortunately, same old bugs present:
- problem with youtube embebed flash videos
- problem opening with adobe pdf plugin
- icons in Opera's menus not displaying in Windows Vista
- clicking with the mouse wheel in a bookmark in the bookmark manager window open the bookmark above all the other tabs instead of opening in the background as it should do.
- etc

GwenDragon 28. May 2008, 17:26

Dragonfly now opens inside the Opera window.

Please, remove the ugly "inside window" feature of Dragonfly.

Most browser windows are too small in height to include the debugger.
I don't want to have to start a browser window at 1800×1200!

Debuggers should reside in an external window.

There should be a opera:config value to set it inside for users who want it.

Tamil 28. May 2008, 17:30

bug-331051: Now error is not showing but it doesn't show results instantly. I have to press some other tab and return to that to see it.

Opera crahes when you try to save opera:config#Dialog Configuration. Can anyone confirm?

mickael9 28. May 2008, 17:32

Cookies editor still doesn't work in Site preferences window

bongojohn 28. May 2008, 17:34

It is working good but has still problems with some websites:

http://crossover-online.de/
and
http://www.heise.de

Is there a possibility to fix it?

Dragonfly in external window: button

mgillespie 28. May 2008, 17:37

@booz0r Not just you, me too, small icons in the panel.

piroxicam 28. May 2008, 17:38

totally unusable this build!
i simply can't scroll down this very own site as it so slow and totally hangs my pc. i'm using windows xp sp3.

reverting to previous build, this one is not good to use, even for testers.

Wraith88 28. May 2008, 17:38

When I scroll in an iframe the scrollbar is not moving. :/
(all iframe)

When I change the content of an iframe, I have to move the window to see the new content. (xilinus prototype window)

+ Can't scroll any page while loading...

ytsmabeer 28. May 2008, 17:39

These seems to be something wrong.
I had to clear my opera6.ini to get the scrollbar back

Wraith88 28. May 2008, 17:40

You can set the size of the icons on the panel.

Right click, customize...
Toolbars
Style: Images and text below
Large images

Chas4 28. May 2008, 17:42

The build on the mac link is the wrong one:
Version
9.50 Beta
Build
4827

from http://snapshot.opera.com/mac/o950s_4839.dmg

szimek 28. May 2008, 17:42

It breaks gmail on Ubuntu 8.04 - it loads fine, but I can't click anything or even scroll the page.

Edit: I've restarted browser and it works...

piroxicam 28. May 2008, 17:44

Edit: The page's does scroll after all, but the image remain frozen as it did not scrolled. we have to click in another tab and then return to the previous tab to see the page beeing updated.

report as bug #333506

hzr 28. May 2008, 17:44

> Made http authentication work in Widgets again

Cool, this broke the Gmail Checker.

Darken 28. May 2008, 17:47

Yes! CustomizeGoogle userjs work fine now.

mgillespie 28. May 2008, 17:48

Something screwy with icon sizes and text placement in this build, played around and got it back how it was, but several times I changed from Large Icons to small (no Large) and nothing happened, only when I changed to Text and Image, did things start working, and then the tickbox was out of sync with what I should be showing.

Unrelated...

http://www.expedia.co.uk

Is badly broken, with search pages that fail to fully load (no urlfilter.ini and Private Data cleared, problem still exists). High profile site that's unusable :-(

pureDeViAnce 28. May 2008, 17:50

Same scrolling problem here.

ytsmabeer 28. May 2008, 17:53

Sollucion Scrolling problem.
It caused by the progress bar when put at bottum.
Set it back to simple and scrolling works again.

EricJH 28. May 2008, 17:57

"We are trying to get it more stable now" Do I hear we are working towards a final version here as FF3 is in the release candidates phase?:jester:

Thx for releasing. I was getting bored with the previous version....Homer: Doh!

karol.f 28. May 2008, 17:59

Finally fixed problem with loading some websites! I can back from Firefox to Opera again! Thank You very much

Wraith88 28. May 2008, 17:59

Not for me... :worried:

confirmed!
bad, bad opera!

bbk5 28. May 2008, 18:02

The RSS rendering issue where the scrollbar wouldn't size correctly to the message length has finally been fixed. Thanks SO much!

Can we please have Mac build 4839...both links still get us build 4827. We're begging here. Homer: Doh!
The link shows 4839.app, but the build is 4827.

Same here, "Large Images" simply wont work.

By the way, is there any way I can turn off notification when no there is no new emails? I mean on "No new messages recieved for 'acount'" notification. It really gets me on my nerves...

hermen2048 28. May 2008, 18:07

My tab text color for inactive tabs got white in this build. Does anyone have similar problems?

Bill_P 28. May 2008, 18:17

scroll bar is now purple (was yellow) is this "Problems with repaint when scrolling pages etc", something else or the new default color?

dZeus 28. May 2008, 18:20

Known issues:
Problems with repaint when scrolling pages etc

This is a major problem! makes the browser build quite unusable to me!

I guess I'll have to wait for a better build to test, and downgrade to the previous release

Lex1 28. May 2008, 18:25

> Dragonfly now opens inside the Opera window.
Very good.

Command «Execute program» still works not correctly (Bug 322553). As result, integration in menu Download Master and similar program, don't work.

piroxicam 28. May 2008, 18:25

@dZeus: change "popup at bottom progress bar" to "simple progress bar". it solves your problem with scrolling

wirusek 28. May 2008, 18:26

Thanks for the new build

GwenDragon 28. May 2008, 18:26

Problems with repaint when scrolling pages etc

Well, problem is a nice euphemism.

It really means: Opera does not react anymore until you open an new tab and switch to it and back to old tab.

//EDIT: But this switching does not always help.

Bill_P 28. May 2008, 18:26

"Fixed an issue with pages that never finished loading" - this causes Boston.com/globe to use 100% cpu if "Delayed Script Execution" is enabled. This was originally enabled else that page and others would not load at all.

Junyor 28. May 2008, 18:32

We've build the Mac build until we can fix the problem. We may have to do without a Mac build this time around.

@markcs: What page are you using to test the right click scripting option?

@pejakm: opera:config#UserPrefs|ShowNotificationForNoNewMessages

seaman13gr 28. May 2008, 18:35

nice build.
problem with flash players...like full cache memory.
Startup is now a lot faster when having many bookmarks...(15tabs)

Bill_P 28. May 2008, 18:37

seems that the 64bit version still can have 100% cpu because of the plugin wrapper (per the forums) - my concern here is that if I'm away and Opera kicks up to and stays @ 100% this will unduly stress my fan and cpu and since the warm weather is arrived all my temps have already gone up. It appears that recieving feeds can initiate this problem (since some contain flash).

So in the mean time I'm running 32bit and that's one less tester of the 64bit version.

EricJH 28. May 2008, 18:38

No problem with scrolling with progress bar as pop up at bottom. I am on Vista SP1 and started with a new opera6.ini. The people having problems are on what OS?

EagleMKD 28. May 2008, 18:41

Password not sent for NNTP accounts

W00T! YAY! THANKS!

piroxicam 28. May 2008, 18:42

@EricJH: I'm facing scrolling problems both in XP SP3 and Vista SP1

EricJH 28. May 2008, 18:43

Try deleting the opera6.ini when Opera is not running. Does that solve it?

Orff 28. May 2008, 18:44

I am wondering if that garbage idea of MS's to have a /Documents and Settings/ folder creates complication. You know there's a Default User and Name of Default User listed? OS design flaws (all of them have them) need closer scruitiny, I like Opera, Crap Cleaner and other .ini and data file friendly programs installing it all into your choice directory. I don't think MS and Macromedia-Adobe agree to much with this policy hence Silver Light and Flash Problems.

Pissed Out!

Bill_P 28. May 2008, 18:52

"Show Notification For No New Messages" - could this be changed to popup once for each mail check instead of once per mail account (as I've got lot's of accounts). Also if a lot of accounts are checked at the same time the popups don't go away (this happens with 12 accounts) they have to be clicked
