I had an issue with downloading ISO file just 10 minutes ago.

EricJH 30. May 2008, 15:59

Thx a lot. Somethign to keep me busy for the weekend...

sapito 30. May 2008, 16:02

wrong build number? opers shows 10024 instead 10034

seems like the classic installer has build 10034 and the *new* installer hast the old one 10024

wile-e-wonka 30. May 2008, 16:04

This description sounds almost like a Beta 3. Perhaps next week.

piroxicam 30. May 2008, 16:07

new build. fresh install. same bugs as usual.

EricJH 30. May 2008, 16:09

@piroxicam. In what folder did you install Opera. c:\program files\?

lamarca 30. May 2008, 16:10

the cookies on site preferences are back!

maxstep 30. May 2008, 16:10

Sweet! thank you;
by the way,
are there any means to change highlighting of UI elements back to yellow-ish instead of new blue-ish??
(was introduced in the 10024 build)

Junyor 30. May 2008, 16:12

@maxstep: Not at this time.

@piroxicam: Which installer did you use?

Same for me. Downloading this version: http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/o950s_10034m.exe

webtax 30. May 2008, 16:13

gonna try this, i had to revert to 9981 build due to the back/fordward bug. (and in part with the repaint bug) as i kind of use it now as my main browser

downloading as i write

btw i used the first, not classic installer, and shows 10034

piroxicam 30. May 2008, 16:18

@EricJH and @Junyor:
As every other program I use, I install with the standard settings. I've used the MSI installer and installed Opera in C:\Program Files\Opera 9.5 Beta

As usual I got icons in the first Opera session. After closing Opera and reopening it, the icons disappeared as usual.

sebt 30. May 2008, 16:19

Sweet :D

Seems much better so far. A bit snappier, and the "blank back" issue when navigating to links that open in a new tab seems to have been fixed. Progressbar at bottom seems to be working better too. Good work!

Seb

KrisSiegel 30. May 2008, 16:20

Even though I did an upgrade install my build number remains at 9945. It appears to have installed as all of the files in my Opera programs directory have been modified with today's date and the installer gave me the upgrade option rather than a repair. Some of the items in the change log appear to be in the version I am now running even though it is not reflected in the build number. I used the Windows installer, btw (not classic).

Very odd. DragonFly also will not launch for me (it did prior to this update).

EDIT: Judging by the comments the update is applying but not updating the build number as many are seeing the 10024 build number from the previous release.

man on the street 30. May 2008, 16:22

 http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ working again

EDIT: Worked once - now cshes Opera

mgillespie 30. May 2008, 16:27

crasher on multiple back presses. Has this in the last build too. Intermittent. Windows Vista SP1, 32bit.

leomajko 30. May 2008, 16:28

This one looks perfect
Great job

Teuzz 30. May 2008, 16:28

Netvibes still not working :-( It worked properly in beta2 last time. I'm also having troubles with Speeddial on Vista x86 - it always get frozen for maybe 30 seconds

All the bugs that affected me in the last build are still affecting me (ie. searching in source not jumping to the found text, highlighting text in feeds, etc).

Are these fixed or has my build not updated?

webtax 30. May 2008, 16:30

yes , it still crashes when pressing back at some pages.

like this http://operawatch.com/category/news/opera-tutorial entering comment and pressing back, sometimes crashes, sometimes not

KrisSiegel 30. May 2008, 16:31

Teuzz, I've had that problem since Speeddial was released on my x64 machine (Vista x64 Ultimate). I eventually gave up and cleared my speeddial. It only happened when I looked at it the first time on launch and at first I thought it was the address bar.

To be honest speeddial would be much more useful if you could put multiple ones rather than just 9. At work I have about 20 sites I'd love to throw on there; it would make things easier.

Junyor 30. May 2008, 16:32

@piroxicam: What is the "Opera Directory" in opera:about?

andresruiz 30. May 2008, 16:32

Reduced memory usage

 Kestrel is using more memory than any other browser in my PC except IE7. It's very sad to see how Firefox 3 uses less memory than Opera. So if you are reducing memory usage, it seems that you know the problem and you're solving it. Thanks a lot.

Still some crashes with specific websites when going back, and still issues with cookies and being unable to log-in to certain sites, but apart from that the best build from the most recent ones.

It's always a good idea to uninstall the previous build first. That's what I did and I'm not seeing that kind of problem.

It's working for me in 10034. Did you do a clean install?

You can: More speed dials? There you go!

Hansapelle 30. May 2008, 16:54

However the slow download of secure sites still has not been fixed.

Junyor 30. May 2008, 16:56

@piroxicam: Is it only favicons that are missing from the Bookmarks menu? Check to see if there's an images directory in your profile and make sure it has the correct permissions.

harlekyn 30. May 2008, 16:56

Bloglines works again, thanks!

EricJH 30. May 2008, 16:57

@piroxicam. Opera is properly installed. May be start a topic about it in the Beta forum. It doesn't happen to anybody using UAC; it may take some testing and trying to figure out what is happening with your installation.

mgillespie 30. May 2008, 16:57

Serious layout bug here.

http://www.expedia.co.uk

search for a hotel room, the search results are truncated by the layout (all the info is there in the page source), but it's clipped so it's unviewable.

Anyone reproduce this?

KrisSiegel 30. May 2008, 17:00

@MetalRaise, that's awesome thanks! Now they just need to combine the bookmarks with speeddial and I'll be all set (i.e. just have a settings in the bookmarks to include on speeddial that way I'm not manually typing in addresses or going to the address of my bookmark and adding it).

As for upgrading, I never uninstall then re-install as upgrade should work and if it doesn't work, I'd like to make sure Opera is aware of it for when 9.5 offically launches

That was when all started malfunctioning.

But Opera never used anything "c:\documents and settings..." as an installation folder. What you're thinking of is--in December--Opera moving certain data elements from the usual data folder to "c:\Users\accountname\AppData\Local\Opera."

BTW, you didn't answer my previous questions:
1) What major problems with UAC?
2) Was UAC on or off when you installed Opera? And is it on or off now?

@Eric, so reading the last thread, now that you know how to fix the problem (correct the paths in that Opera protocol Registry branch, and anything else in there not right), I take it you're looking for a way for Opera to do it itself (with "Check if Opera is default browser") on the theory that it's a bug and not some leftover complication from having other Operas on the system? If I get time, I'll try it on a virgin Vista system to see what's created in the protocol area. I agree that Opera should be handle both dirty and clean systems.

You can try this unofficial fix if you are savvy in computerzz http://my.opera.com/d.i.z./blog/2008/05/22/a-road-to-working-xpath (see bottom lines for solution)

Acid 3 Test: 82/100... wow!!

piroxicam 30. May 2008, 17:13

@rseiler:

You are right. I wanted to say "some opera user settings files". Like you've said, in December Opera moved the settings profile files from "C:\program files" to "c:\Documents and settings" (C:\Users in Vista). Since then, the problems started.

Now, answer to you questions:
1. The problems with UAC are this one I am describing: having to run Opera as admin to make it run "normally". Opera should be supposed to run without any "trick". And having to run it as admin I consider that it is not normal. And this problem does not affect only the icons. Opera also gets slow and sometimes stops responding when opening or closing tabs, when running it normal which does NOT happen when running it as admin.

2. As I've said, everything is default in my laptop, so UAC was and it is turned ON as default.

sebt 30. May 2008, 17:16
