300 skin comments in a day party We have tried to polish at least some of
the areas you commented on:

  • Improved contrast between active and inactive tabs in the tab bar
  • Higher contrast for the text on inactive tabs to increase readability, especially on laptops
  • Brighter background in the panels
  • A tiny bit more color: We added the Home button as default by popular demand
  • We tuned the color intensity of the color themes (Tools: Appearance: Color scheme) to be more usable with both this and other skins. Try it out again!
  • Improved visibility of the scrollbars
  • Buttons no longer grow wider when you press them
  • Nicer background for security status on https pages

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Known issues:
  • Dragonfly does not work when JavaScript is disabled.

Changelog
  • Fixed the panel selector dropdown
  • Fixed all search related bugs in the previous snapshot
  • Changed default Speed dial search engine from Yahoo to Ask
  • Made it possible to set a custom title for the Developer Tools (Dragonfly) Window using <title> in the tool top level document
  • Fixed a plugin crash

Great improvements! up But there's a strange gap between the Tab Bar and the Title Bar on Mac OS X (screenshot: http://bildr.no/view/209534 ).

Is it posible to request and older Macintosh Native skin. The new one is too dark. The on in build 4844 and earlier was much more comfortable to look at. The new Opera standard begins to take form, but still something strange with it. The tab bar might be a kinda fat. Maybe it's because of the gap I get on the Mac build.

Maybe you should consider something else than the horizontal lines("scanlines") in the panels? The scrollbar on the Mac build is very hard to notice. Too low contrast against a Macbook screen. (Haven't tried it on another computer tho, but it's hard to notice on my Mac).

Great job! cheers

In Windows 9x, some images have not refreshed properly as the page is scrolled since Beta 1 - see gnome.org for an example of this bug. It would be nice if this was added to known issues so I don't download every build only to find out the problem isn't fixed.

Andresandresruiz Friday, June 6, 2008 6:24:34 PM

Wow, this week you're working faster, maybe the "Work for Opera" campain have been successful and you have more devs cheers

Çağlar Yeşilyurtgreench Friday, June 6, 2008 6:30:01 PM

A lot of people has downloaded this build. Download speed decreased!!!

João Davidpiroxicam Friday, June 6, 2008 6:30:59 PM

Thank you for the new bug... I mean, build!

Alexsalexs Friday, June 6, 2008 6:32:11 PM

The command /quit works not correct in IRC (tested in OperaNet), it's filled in BTS but not for me.

Martin Suelzlemarsu Friday, June 6, 2008 6:33:06 PM

no, the pressed "Panels" butten is still larger and the "menu over and out", reported today, is still there. sad .. and the spead-dial loading time ....

Happy Weekend cheers

I think it's more because it's friday and letting this stuff accumulate more comments over the weekend would result in A LOT of work on monday and a lot (more) details would not be noticed (or worked on).

edit: Oh... and because the launch of 9.5 is near, of course. Forgot to mention that.

AndrewAndrewNi Friday, June 6, 2008 6:38:10 PM

It's a great skin bigsmile Only gripe is that I can't hide the tab bar when there's only one tab; "show only when needed" doesn't seem to work.

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Friday, June 6, 2008 6:39:05 PM

Too much space wasted in the bars height, too much dark grey, gradients everywhere... This theme looks "heavy". The tab bar looks better than the "original" theme if only it was a little smaller. The other bars and the buttons are honestly way too basic. I mean, arrows inside a square? The 3D effect on the bars looks awful when you have more then one.

dzooky Friday, June 6, 2008 6:39:05 PM

I have linux version for 64 bit and I have problem with RapidShare.com. After i log in there is missing list of uploaded files. There is only message "SSL-encrypted page
This, and all other pages are SSL encrypted!"

So by default is there something disabled or this is new bug?

Morphdreamer Friday, June 6, 2008 6:40:38 PM

Great! party But you should make bigger close tab buttons and change this one to reload.

PS Installer looks good now! yes

I was just wondering - when is Opera going to refresh the default skin?
And I must say - I like what I see smile

One thing, though - under Vista, the menus highlight is not native, it's a solid color like in XP and earlier. Here's a screenshot to show what I mean: http://daath.x.pl/opera_solid_color.jpg

edit - oh, I don't like the black icons in the menus, too. I know, Vista is black, so there is a trend to make applications black too, but I think this is a bit too far wink

Wasacz Friday, June 6, 2008 6:43:59 PM

Panel switcher has no hover.

BTW, where is classic Opera skin, huh?

Wasacz Friday, June 6, 2008 6:46:46 PM

Ekhm, how can I hide Dragonfly? Menu option is disabled (gray).

Wow, [Alt]+[F4]…

János, Vinczevinczej Friday, June 6, 2008 6:51:14 PM

"Brighter background in the panels"

Yes, this is my lonely further wish about the new skin. smile

(Although, my favorite improvement in the new builds (48 and 51) is the Google Docs linefeed problem.)

fernando823Fer84 Friday, June 6, 2008 6:51:36 PM

WOW, you are really awesome guys.
Looks much better now.

I don't think the home button is necesary by default since the speed dial is great, but it's design is preety cool.

Opera r00l3z!!!!

Irontiger Friday, June 6, 2008 6:51:46 PM

Wow guys, great!

kxp Friday, June 6, 2008 6:58:07 PM

wow this was fast... nice job bigsmile

Still some things to think about later on...

the contrast difference between the toolbars...

and still... in the previous build it was written that 3 speed dial slots were added... i'm still not seeing those

Investor Friday, June 6, 2008 6:59:10 PM

regression...

buttons in panel (right top/bottom) are now shown in left corner, instead of *dynamicly spaced* (and no possibility to add spacers ?)

Close tab botton is too small cheers

edowuxPlimsoll Friday, June 6, 2008 6:59:35 PM

Great work guys.

I don't like the new skin it's way too dark and it breaks my current skin, but nah I can live with that.

Moreover why does updating opera destroy the old shortcut in windows and then make a new one. Using multiple monitors its irritating that icons jumps to wrong monitor.

Well thats all bad things I can say, really great work.

liviuf Friday, June 6, 2008 7:00:38 PM

i just resize my tabs wich still remain huge! but i have a small prob maby somebody can help me where r the settings for the + icon(new_item_cross) cos i cant find them in the skin.ini and that circle with + is not centerd.

Bill PBill_P Friday, June 6, 2008 7:02:29 PM

Is there a reason the "clasic" skin is no longer packaged as it was yesterday? Only the standard and windows are.

Lassi IntoCursed Friday, June 6, 2008 7:09:02 PM

That was fast, thank you!

Doliprane'Doliprane Friday, June 6, 2008 7:09:35 PM

Is The official release coming near and near idea ?

Cyro Friday, June 6, 2008 7:10:18 PM

Incredible fast!
Thank you for this wonderful skin!
yes

Johan Borgborg Friday, June 6, 2008 7:12:19 PM

@Bill_P: We think about making the classic the first in the list of online skins to keep it accessible while reducing download size...

Oleusername_zen Friday, June 6, 2008 7:20:42 PM

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the new skin. I always thought Flott Altså did a great job. Anyway, no dealbreaker as long you don't break old skins

phip Friday, June 6, 2008 7:21:17 PM

I really love the changes you're making in recent builds but Opera's memory usage is out of control on my x86 linux box. After a day of heavy use RES is pushing towards 200MB! I know that is probably a later cycle of development but I long for the day you focus on leak busting and memory usage reduction!

Ralf BrinkmannRalf-Brinkmann Friday, June 6, 2008 7:21:17 PM

The menu in the context menu button for the download window (Windows XP Home) still does not work.

The new "new tab" button on the right can not be removed.

I don't like the dark icons in the new look, they remind me to a cemetery. But I can't change them.

Cheers, Ralf

Soul Of DoinelSoulOfDoinel Friday, June 6, 2008 7:21:54 PM

Wonderfull, another build today :-)
It's better then previous but worse then opera 9 default.
I prefer a colorfull skin but this isn't bad but, have a problem (I think) is that the "bar" in wich appear the tabs is the same color of inactive tab.

I hope to see another tomorrow or monday!!

petteri Friday, June 6, 2008 7:23:03 PM

New skin has too much empty space, it should be much tighter. Otherwise the colors and buttons are nice. I'm also missing the Opera classic option.

I have to agree with HerwigF at this point. I've tried the new skin in several computers and different OSes, and in some places, the scrollbar looks very light and you can't see where the "knob" is.
Apart from it, I think this skin is perfect!

Stevesgunhouse Friday, June 6, 2008 7:23:47 PM

My skin issues (from the forum thread) weren't adressed, so I'll mention them again here ...

The trash can on the tab bar needs a different color, it vanishes in the standard skin (unless you change the color scheme).

While Red is appropriate for Stop, not sure about green for Reload. (It does look like it is a little lighter, but I still agree with the other comments that it doesn't work).

You did fix my issue with the width of the panel selector toolbar, thanks.

The positioning of the new tab icon in skins which depend on the standard skin doesn't really work.

Note: Opera Classic seems to be gone in this version, might explain why the file size was so much smaller today.

Kamaleshkamalesh Friday, June 6, 2008 7:25:53 PM

Noticing this glitch: Wanted to use the Ask searche engine in Speed Dial. I switched it to Google or Yahoo earlier. When going into Prefs->Search and choosing Ask engine as default Speed Dial search, the OK button is grayed out and doesn't let me switch away from Google or Yahoo.

(Build 4855/OSX v10.5.3-intel)

Couldn't agree more.

Someone also mentioned this snapshot eats to much RAM: confirmed here (at least, it uses allot more RAM then 1997 build)

Soul Of DoinelSoulOfDoinel Friday, June 6, 2008 7:27:15 PM

Another problem, the new tab button is nearest to the button to close the last tab opened, a little error in clicking and, instead to close a tab I open a new.

OK, but not copying it to a user's system on the very first release after years of Classic isn't a very good idea, since more people than you may think will want to revert to it, and I'm sure many will expect to see it right there when they do. Perhaps remove it with v10, when there's been a buffer period.

Also, do you realize that Classic is actually deleted upon installing 10551 as an upgrade even if the file is previously there? What would the reason for that be?

cousin333 Friday, June 6, 2008 7:28:19 PM

Hey, you guys are really fast smile.

Some complain though smile:

- Open Panels button on the left should have the same width as the panel selector buttons

- make it available to get rid of New Tab button and that new panel selector + sign (and its place also, of course)

- you should integrate these new buttons into some existing toolbars

- I know, you're proud of Fast Forward and Fast Back (or what you call it), but it's really scarry to see so much arrow (and button) on the left of URL bar

- the heigh of tab bar is too big

pls how do i move the plus button

Michael PetrushinMisha v.3 Friday, June 6, 2008 7:30:39 PM

- button for adding new tab can't be removed (right click and now item 'Remove from Toolbar');
- no thumbnails on hovering tabs;
- in Windows Native skin button for adding new tab looks strange;
- and please, please, please: make active tab more visible in Windows Native skin;

Win XP + SP3.
