First, the RC testing was ridiculously short. Then, loading up 9.5 over the top of 9.25, I noticed problems within minutes:
Unix versions get "double close widgets" when using a tabbed interface - literally, there are two each of close, minimize, maximize buttons while a tab is open (not including the application's ones). One set does *absolutely* nothing. And at one point I managed to get the working set to disappear and had to restart Opera to get it back.
The new skin is a bit hideous and very monochromatic, especially when you open Mail. Why aren't new messages highlighted in a colour, rather than just bolded by default? I can't get back to the skin I had (the larger, coloured buttons etc.) now.
I managed to crash it within about an hour (just random browsing, not stress testing) but was unable to catch any debug output. I also had a random hang, and had to kill the process to continue.
Talks of speed improvements don't seem to translate down to low-end systems where it actually performs identically or worse... a 600MHz, 128Mb RAM machine shows absolutely no performance improvements.
Despite having the toolbar setup that I wanted, I had to redo most of the options again (although it obviously picked up the settings because it had other things) and sometimes "improvise" with the new options to make it similar.
The new dialogs for secure sites with bad certificates and for downloads are too over-simplified for my tastes.
I haven't even tried to do a lot of mail or anything yet. My PC's will be staying on 9.25 for a while until all these silly niggles are sorted out. This is the *first* time I've ever put off upgrading to an Opera "stable" version (been using it since pre-6.0-ish), despite always testing new versions carefully first to ensure compatibility.
Yes, there's a lot that is new but the things that have been missed are ludicrously simple and could have been fixed in about an hour on a developers PC.

Quite messy, especially considering that it's against the new filename scheme used on the latest snapshots (gcc4-shared-qt3_i386 , gcc4-qt4_i386, gcc295-static-qt3_i386 ).
"Which is which Pt.III" is badly needed...or rather go back to the previous filename scheme which was just fine.

thanks for the new release. i'm surprised that it has been just two days since the RC. perhaps a bit to early.
i have to admit, that there seem to be a couple of "problems" which might have been solved before.
but as always i'm trying to do my personal best to spread out the latest release to the rest of the world :-)
h2cus with new snapshots!
Cyro # 12. June 2008, 14:06

Secondly - why so hurry with the release? I thought that opera will be released AFTER Firefox 3, and (of course) it will be hell lot better than ff.
What's more - why there's no version linked to qt4? snapshots linked to qt4 worked the best for me, especially because I have some problems with polish characters on translation (some of them are missing, for example, in the menu tabs names, there are squares instead) - with qt4 version there was no such problems.
And when I read the rest of the comments... I think that you've just made the same mistake as Mandriva did with 2008.1 Spring release - it was released in hurry, before Ubuntu and the release is... well, a bit wanting. But, I may be wrong.
In my opinion, RC2 wouldn't be so stupid idea as you may think
Anyway, why old skin is not available any more? A lot of people noticed that in RC and they said they want it back!
netlord # 12. June 2008, 14:12
nice release, but i have two problems
when im moving the mouse over a link the popup showing the link isn´t working..
i cant open the sidebar by moving the mouse on the left side of the screen.
can anybody confirm these?
Andres # 12. June 2008, 14:12
Opea and its deadlines.
Even the changelog is a last-moment work; in 9.5 Beta 2 changelog says "changes since Beta 1" so you expect to find on Final Release something like "Changes since Release Candidate" or "Changes since Beta 2" but not, you read "Changes since 9.27"

And how to turn off Opera icon next to clock? I was looking everywhere...
A, one more thing: if page is loading slowly (some facebook pages for example), I can't scroll until it loads, it freezes!
I go continue experimenting...
johnnysaucepn # 12. June 2008, 14:27
Which is as it should be - betas upgrade from betas, finals upgrade from finals. This is normal.
Opera still using less memory under more intensive use for me than the FF3 RC.
Johnny # 12. June 2008, 14:28
which is fantastic seeing it didn't work at all in the RC.
what was the topping on those pizzas?
top job!
a changelog between this and the RC would be nice though...
also does this mean the weeklies are gonna be more rare?

UPDATE: acid2 displays correctly if I login as a different user indicating there's something in my config screwing up the test - any ideas? it's not proxy or ftw as i shut them off.

Try this -> http://www.anandtech.com/rss/articlefeed.aspx
1) The dialog box asked 3 times to confirm subscribe (some feed pops 2 times)
2) Click Yes, Yes, No [or any 2 YES combination]
3) Click the Feed menu. It'll show 2 entries.
4) Under Feed menu, select Manage Feeds. In this box, it'll show 1 entry.
5) Delete this entry in Manage Feeds. Click the Feed menu. 1 is gone, but 1 'phantom' entry is still there and not shown in Manage Feeds.
6) Close Opera. Check the Feed. The 'phantom' feed still there.
7) Try to do an update on this 'phantom' feed entry. It'll crash Opera!
8) Uninstalled Opera, cleaned registry, deleted folders (Program Files and Profile folders), etc.
9) Reinstall Opera again. The 'phantom' feed still there and crashes Opera again!

and I would definitely say that there are more sites compatible with 9.5 then there are with 9.27.
try it out, you can always go back to 9.27...

Take the opportunity to upgrade - some people have complained about particular sites having problems, but there are probably less than have complained in the past about sites failing in 9.27! There's always going to be incompatibilities when things get fixed.
You can always install a separate clean copy, and upgrade when you're comfortable.

@chivitli: Yes, when using the native skin on Windows XP with the Classic XP theme, there's low contrast between the tabs. We'll try to improve that for a future release.
@Werdel: Give it a try and decide for yourself if the upgrade is right for you.

I don't wish to spoil the party, but if you try to log in to Google Analytics the tab stays displays "Loading" in the login box and opens a popup warning that, when clicked, actually opens Analytics.
Win XP SP3, fresh install.

Finally you made a new skin, maybe this will make me come back from the windows native appearance^^
2 things though:
- big cosmetic bug here: when adding the "new tab" button
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/8849/12012488mw9.png
- upgrading from opera 9.2x: the amazon.com search box now always redirects me to amazon.fr =(
This is freaking annoying as hell!! (even though i got english as preferred language for web page). How do i change that please?

Once I'd sorted out the 9.2 keyboard compatibility (don't know why logical things were changed - many apps. use F5 for Refresh)), pasted in a few things such as SpeedDial opening new tabs and images opening in IrfanView (why does a new installation over-write these?) it's going well.
Thank you for the best browser by a mile.

- with every new install of Opera, the install directory input field somehow remembers the previous directory
- my opera6.adr file (from another instllation) was automatically copied to the new profile folder
this was NOT an 'update', but an install into a unique directory
all past versions are installed in their own separate uniquely named directories
I typically append the "build #" of each installation to the directory name
does Opera now check for other installed versions and automatically copy the file over?
