Opera Desktop Team

Towards 9.51

,

It's time for maintenance - we have been fixing several of the most reported issues in 9.50 - including a rather nasty crash on Yahoo Mail. Have fun testing - and as always, we'd appreciate feedback.

WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes, but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

Changelog:
  • Fixed crash on Yahoo! Mail.
  • Fixed a crash when clicking the feeds button.
  • Fixed a crash when installing Shockwave Player 11.
  • Fixed some issues with the search engines when upgrading from 9.2x: it is now possible again to edit the Google search.
  • Fixed a leak when printing or in print preview.
  • Fixed a GDI handle leak in the transfers window on Windows.
  • Fixed thread expanding in Mail when receiving new messages
  • Fixed some issues with subscription to IMAP folders.
  • Fixed a too zealous reconnection of the IRC client.
  • Fixed "reuse current tab" feature in speed dial on Mac.
  • Finetuned some issues in the new skin.

o.0... Just when I was getting warm and comfy with 9.5, you go out and release a bug-fix release.. love you guys bigsmile

Its good to find the team trying to fix Yahoo Mail but try fixing GMail too (in spite of it not supporting standards), IMHO the Google sites not working properly are your biggest stumbling block to getting market share. Its the early adopters who influence their circle of friends and relatives and trust me on this... most of these early adopters use at least one service from Google.

Truly Yours,
Asfaq Tapia

Also, I do I have in Vista the new google icon in the search field, but in XP I do have the olg G icon?

Confirmed but it also doesn't in Firefox so it's 3dtracking fault.

Yes, new favicon is displayed only on google site and on Speed Dial.

HorstFux Friday, June 20, 2008 12:19:17 PM

Can't confirm it, Pitris.

For me the Browse-Button works and the double click works too. (XP, SP2)

Antoniantoszka Friday, June 20, 2008 12:22:48 PM

I'm sorry to report this, but both 9.50 and 9.51_pre_2050 freeze when I startup opera with quite a big session and scripting enabled.

Here's a strace (if this is of any help) and the session file:

Best.

Browse on deviantart works fine also for me (XP SP3), but double click is broken sad .

FrakkiaLP Friday, June 20, 2008 12:46:00 PM

what have you changed in the skin? It seems exactly the same.

Stevesgunhouse Friday, June 20, 2008 12:47:51 PM

Note that it gave me the upgrade page ("Welcome to Opera") after install, I'm commenting since I know you guys normally disable that in snapshots.

ThumbFinger Friday, June 20, 2008 12:50:43 PM

The new skin, while looking fresh with the tab bar across the top, looks really bad with the tab bar down the left (where I always keep it) - the black tabs on the silver background of the tab bar look really nasty. I'm loving the fresh look of the icons, just not the inverted contrast of the new tab bar skin

aos101 Friday, June 20, 2008 12:52:44 PM

Appearance of buttons on some webpages (e.g. google homepage) is fixed with the new skin on Linux. Thanks guys! up

EricJH Friday, June 20, 2008 1:28:38 PM

Sweet. Thanks very much. The Quikc Time plugin issue is also fixed. Still when opening a link from f.e. outlook will still not open in 9.5.

Keep the good work going. party wizard

Finetuned some issues in the new skin.

@Tamil + @ FrakkiaLP ,

as posted during RC test and 9.50 release, the panel buttons when panel toolbar is set top/bottom were not dynamicly spaced, thus all buttons were shown left on toolbar, which didn't look good. Now that's fixed, they get spaced automaticly when adding buttons. That's the change I have noted...

Teuzz Friday, June 20, 2008 2:10:00 PM

- Google Analytics still try to open a new window after login. The window is being blocked everytime >:-(

- SpeedDial still get frozen on Vista without SP1 (for about 20 seconds when used first time after Opera start)

FataL Friday, June 20, 2008 2:38:00 PM

After I updated my Opera 9.5 final on Mac to current build, Opera lost all my settings, tabs, bookmarks for version 9.5 and started using 9.27 ones. sad
Any chance I can bring them back?

Ferrisferrisnox Friday, June 20, 2008 2:40:48 PM

Thanks very much for all of your hard work and congrats Opera 9.5 and Opera in general has come a long long way over the years.

I did notice on the 9.5(final not rc) Release sometimes upon re-opening opera my speed dial images would get "confused" and be in the wrong places. A simple refresh fixed it. I haven't noticed it yet on the 9.5.1

Thanks!

Michael GibsonGibmeister Friday, June 20, 2008 2:43:17 PM

Since 9.50, I've found spurious nav history entries more of a problem - reported as bug-337231 ("arstechnica.com wrongly creates navigation history").

The same occurs with webshots.com. Seems to be Javascript related, as when it is disabled Forwards/Backwards works properly.

Otherwise, I like it!

g4qb Friday, June 20, 2008 2:43:59 PM

first the good news
http://celtickane.com/webdesign/jsspeed.php
as fast as safari 3.1.2
250ms

my settings include:
start with blank page
don't use wand
no smooth scrolling
no tooltips
no java
no plug-ins
no close button on each tab

shortcuts
opera 9.2 compatible
enable single-key shortcuts

cached images, 120%
disable special effects

finally worked out how to create this 9.5x bug
bug-341566
11:51 Sat June 21

****************
set zoom to non-100%
eg. 90%, 110%, 120%
****************

inputting password into this blog
http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/

there is an asterisk to the right of the cursor.

windows panel
ctrl-shift-0
1. highlight "Windows - Opera"
2. press DEL
quits opera
closes all open windows in 9.27, but leaves opera running.
OSX version also leaves opera running.

http://feeds.feedburner.com/thesecrethub/GVQl
1. put it into a bookmark
2. highlight it
3. open it ctrl-shift-enter
repeat 2 & 3 3x

by the 3rd try,
need to click NO 3x
in
10063 it was 2x
in
9.27 it is 1x

this bug is intermittent.

http://www.icetv.com.au/cgi-bin/epg/iceguide.cgi?op=topguide&tapver=999999&save_as_file=checked&save_as_filename=icetv_epg.txt

still a bit odd.

window focus different to 9.27
1. ctrl-t
2. opera:about
3. ctrl-shift-0

doesn't work until u press F8 to get the focus right

search bug
1. ctrl-t
2. opera:about
3. quick find space
press /
type <space>

note the odd highlighting

Yndi Friday, June 20, 2008 2:45:37 PM

@fastestlan: #1 is no bug and as far as I know, Opera is still leading in Acid3.
With facebook and Gmail you see what problems a browser gets, if it is applying the standards too fast. But Opera was not Opera if they didn´t so it smile.

Still no fix for the recycle bin sad.

Why http://portal.opera.com/startup/ opens on upgrades?

Claudio Santambrogiocsant Friday, June 20, 2008 2:52:56 PM

Fatal, are you sure you were using the *final* 9.5, rather than a snapshot?

Jan Gebauergebauer Friday, June 20, 2008 2:53:16 PM

Hi,

I agree with pincopallino, please fix the signature problem!

I'm using Opera as a _serious_ mail client and need the multi account functionality! (It worked fine in all previous versions!)

Here again the forum link:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=236008&

Thanks!
Jan

A. DudaADuda Friday, June 20, 2008 2:53:30 PM

With 9.5 Final I have some problems with my.opera.com : I check the chekbox to remember me, and every time I restart Opera, i have to login again. Cookies are normal, I checked them for MyOpera and other sites work normaly.
Could this be a cache problem? And if anyone has the same problem, let me know if this version fixes it. Will try myself when I have time.

Anyway, good work for releasing new build wink

Andresandresruiz Friday, June 20, 2008 3:18:16 PM

Please, don't forget to fix the issue I reported on the previous post about http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0806wdt546x/event/index.html
Buttons doesn't work

Not 100% shure actually, maybe it was the RC smile But anyway, should it import all my stuff from 9.27 without any questions?
I'm not experienced Mac or Unix user, so I can't really check where is my stuff... sad

zoquete Friday, June 20, 2008 3:27:34 PM

After upgrading to 10071, I have all my mail-messages 3 times. sad

Somebody has the same problem?

(I upgraded to Kestrel 9500 3/4 year ago.)

pincopallino Friday, June 20, 2008 3:34:08 PM

@ADuda,
same problem here with MyOpera site.

Charlie ClarkMuzzlehatch Friday, June 20, 2008 3:39:37 PM

First of all congratulations on 9.5 with all the new features and the new skin. I've even started using Dragonfly and find it pretty easy to use especially when compared with Firebug. I haven't noticed any showstopper bugs in 9.5 but I appreciate the delicate improvements to the Mac OS skin. Personally I find the icons all a bit plump but they are consistent and on the whole easily recognisable. A couple of sites seem to have problems - such as the drop-down menus on http://economist.com - redraw problems similar to ones that used to happen on sites that used the suckerfish method.

Keep up the good work!

fernando823Fer84 Friday, June 20, 2008 3:40:36 PM

Pleaseee! Check out what is happening with CajaMadrid website!! It seems that they are following w3c with few errors.
https://oi.cajamadrid.es/CajaMadrid/oi/pt_oi/Login/login

And I also would like to know who has the fault of the Google issues, its Opera or Google?

bmd Friday, June 20, 2008 3:52:54 PM

Google Analytics still opens in pop-up after login rather than opening in the current window like it does in 9.27 and other browsers.

KurtChrisDavey Friday, June 20, 2008 3:53:04 PM

@ zoquete

no problem with mail here

bug-338461 still not fixed though.

KurtChrisDavey Friday, June 20, 2008 4:16:17 PM

the pdf xchange viewer plugin does not seem to work with O9.5
¿can anyone else canfirm?

zoquete Friday, June 20, 2008 4:25:54 PM

@ Element why don't you disable it at all?

El Ouataoui Fahdblack-ghost Friday, June 20, 2008 4:27:00 PM

Hey,

- Great work so long ! But I can't help always having the same question : When can we suspect to see a Silverlight plugin for Opera ? Okay, you don't seem to be in very good terms with Microsoft but come on guys Silverlight IS something ! I hope you're gonna fix this.

Thanks smile

PS : I love your smilies party

"Fixed a GDI handle leak in the transfers window on Windows."

Oh yes, It's work...
Thank you very much

chesss Friday, June 20, 2008 5:08:09 PM

There is another possible bug -
weird A limit to number of transfers - which removes any incomplete transfers you have (when restrarting Opera)
Do this -
geta number of transfers(15+)
2. make sure ome aer imcomplete
3.restart opera

incomplete transfers disappear
